If the NFL actually had proper overtime rules..

Then the teams that win would complain they played the equivalent of 5 NFL games. The rules are fine. The Bills are complaining but they had 60 minutes to win the game. The Rams played it perfectly Sunday. They didn't want to take the chance that Brady would get the ball back. The Bills had the #1 defense and they blew it during regulation. They only had to stop the Chiefs from getting 40 yards in :13 seconds. They deserved to lose that game and I hope it hurts those fans deep down.

Make a simple change to the rule and it’s fair . Instead of the way it is now, start the OT with each team getting the ball on the opponent’s 45 yard line and if you score a TD you have to go for 2 . No FGs allowed in overtime.

There's too much controversy and difference of opinion about how overtime should be handled. The fact of the matter is that all of the teams agreed to the current format. Why don't they end all the confusion and disagreement on the subject and do like Betty Jefferson suggested which is ..........in case of a tie determine the winner by coin toss and be done with it ?

Well they made it harder becasue a TD had to be made to end game. Not KC's fault that they went for the jugular and realized their defense couldn't stop Allen. I don't have a problem with your idea, but I would start them from their own 25. Both teams get a shot with the ball. If first team stops them they can make them punt or just take the ball at their own 25. The coin flip would only determine which way they go, but then some sissy would complain about that too. There are so many things they could do, but complaining about it when you know thats the rules is pathetic.

Whatever else it may be, it's not 'unfair' because the Bills had an equal chance to win the coin toss. How about if there is a howling wind in one direction, is it unfair that the teams don't play both ways?

I'm still trying to find someone to answer my question, if the first team to possess the ball takes up all of the clock and kicks a field goal with the last tick, how do their opponents get this possession they are supposed to have?

The Bills/Chiefs game was an exception to the rule. So many times I've watched teams so terrible they couldn't score in 10 minutes and end in a tie. These two teams were scoring in 3-4 plays. Most teams play it safe and the NFL wants a good product.

I'm pretty sure that the ref said that the overtime was a new game and that they would play until somebody wins. If someone managed to record the coin toss we could find out.

This is the rules that were stated.
Here are the NFL overtime rules for the postseason: — Play 15-minute periods until a winner. — A touchdown or safety on the first possession wins the game. — If the score is tied after each team’s first possession, either because neither scored or each kicked a field goal, the next score will win the game. — There are no coach’s challenges with all reviews being initiated by the replay official.

that is it right there
overtime is another period, and at the end of the 5th quarter to one with the most points wins
but in the playoffs after the 5th quarter and still tied then they can do what they do now

Yeah, I had to actually go online to check and make sure I understood the ref correctly when he explained the rules. Sometimes...............I actually am right. Sometimes.

But then fans of the losing team who didn't get the ball 1st could still find excuses to complain about an unfair advantage.

Example: 1st team has the ball for 8 minutes and scores a FG. 2nd team has the ball for 6 minutes and scores a FG. The 1st team in under a minute kicks the game winning FG.

The fans of team #2 who got the ball 2nd can and will complain how team #1 had more possessions (2 vs. 1).

I say just keep it how it is. Overtime rules of today puts a priority on having a DEFENSE that can stop an Offense and let's be honest. Just look @ my username 😁

You are never going to please everyone, so, why even bother. I agree, just leave it as is. The coin toss is 50-50 and that's about as fair as you can get.
