Is it at all possible that Geno Smith has developed this year to being a real QB this year?

"Improved"? Oh my goodness now it really has become tuesday nights at Carolines.

Have some people forgotten how putrid this guy was last year? Improved?!!

All i ask is, In what game did he "improve" consistently?
Cmon Dan...

What about his perfect game against the Dolphin practice squad in the all important meaningless week 17??

Unitas, Montana, Brady, Manning, Staubach, Bradshaw, Baugh and Luckman ALL wrapped up in the magnificent Geno of the Jets

And let's not forget all the great QBs all wrapped in one that remind us of Fitzgerald like Farve, Aikman, Staubach, Brady, Manning, Breez, Plunkett, Rodgers, Bradshaw, Big-Ben, Luck and Wilson. You know, the 10 year garbage ass vet QB that has bounced from team to team from being cut or not signed back from FA but he will be the savior of the Jets for multiple years now that he plays for us.

No one see Fitz as a savior. Just a guy who may be a better QB and leader than the young Geno...but yes Geno has more time and upside. Geno is getting the first shot and if he has improved his pocket skills, read defenses better/quicker and makes better decisions he will be the QB of the Jets. I hope he succeeds so we don't have to talk QB every draft but I'm glad we have an veteran like Fitz to turn to if Geno isn't the guy. I am convinced we are good OL and QB play from contending for a playoff spot.

It will be a fair and open competition for the QB spot because our QB situation isn't settled yet. It appears the job is Geno's to lose and they won't cuddle him or sugar coat anything and I 1000% respect that. I'm reading between the lines here I realize that but seems to me unless they make the Rivers or Breez trade or draft Winston or Mariota, they want Geno to win the job and be successful so their QB issue is solved. Fitz is a last resort but if they have to go that route, they'll feel comfortable enough with him for this year and will start all over again next year without Geno in the picture.

I think "Fitzgerald" might be the one QB on the planet that GeNO could beat out. Possibly "Chris" Simms might be another

Sadly, there is no "Fitzgerald" on the Jets which leaves GeNO in solid fourth place behind Mark FitzPATRICK, MATT Simms, yet undrafted 2015 pick.

And fifth or worse if MacBowles are not kidding about bringing in others

i have a different interpretation. which is that geno is being named the #1 because fitz is hurt. my 100% complete guess is that if fitx were healthy today and ready to go in OTAs and minicamp, that bowles would have said it is an open competition.

he didn't exactly give geno a ringing endorsement in naming him the #1 QB to start. he basically said it's all we have now and he will need to perform to hold the job.

i don't think the current coaching staff and GM are too invested into geno. sure, they'd love for the proverbial switch to go off and he elevate his game and take the QB question off the table. but i read it as a rather tepid endorsement of geno and attribute his current status atop the depth chart as having to do as much with fitz not being ready to go yet than anything else.

again, just my complete guess.

Dude, let's just stop. We made our bet and let's leave it at that. Whether its Fitzbustard, Fitzgerald or Fitzpatrick you know what I meant. What you don't know is Fitz whomever isn't the answer. No more then Geno is and I have more faith in Geno obviously then Fitz. Anyway, let's just stop now before this gets ugly. We have our verbal bet and I'm sure we'll communicate again on this towards the end of the year.

I can see that and won't argue what your saying. I agree 100% that Geno will have to win or keep the starting job game one and throughout the year. If he flops they will snatch his A off the field after two games max of poor play (most likely). What I do believe is he will beat out Fitz regardless or any other rookie not named Winston. Not saying he is better then Mariota period but he is at least right now.

In a year or two Mariota will surpass him if Geno hasn't improved. So I got the same drift you got but my assumptions as I said before is if it comes down between Geno and Fitz and any other rookie then Winston or Mariota, they will want Geno to actually win and play well. He is 24 and in his third year and played in a no win situation his first two years here. This year is make or break for Geno. Either he does it and proves he's our QB or he don't and he's gone next year.

Ryan Fitzpatrick

10 NFL seasons

More TDS than picks

Completion % above 60%

QBR 79

Geno Smith

2 NFL seasons.

More picks than TDS (way more)

QBR 70

Completion %...mid 50s%

No doubt on the planet that Fitz is the better NFL QB

Nice job so far by Macc plugging the DB hole, the WR hole and the QB hole he was left with on arrival

And he still has the draft next month with the #6

If you want to be fair, Ryan is 60% comp and geno is 58%

Geno has been in the NFL 2 years...it was year 5 before Ryan had his first positive TD:INT ratio season and positive TD to INT ratio for his career and year 6 before he had the comp % Geno did in year 2...

I could also add Geno wasnt negative in his TD:INT ratio in year 2, Ryan wasnt till year 5, which means if Geno wasnt negative year 2, his "way more TDs to INTs" is based solely...on his rookie season.

but dont let those facts get in the way of your constant "I hate Geno" rants...

Here comes statz again with his usual pile of skewing and cherry picking desperately attempting to disprove what any Jet fan with eyes has seen the last two seasons....Geno Smith....worst starting QB in the NFL.

Don't let that get in the way of your waving pompoms

I'm cherry picking? hahahaha, at least Im not cherry picking and making stuff up. I understand your arguments are based on emotion rather than facts. I just feel the need to correct you when you're caught making stuff up...and I only point out the stuff you make up half the time, I leave the other half of your posts alone.

PS - I thought you used the ignore feature on me? Guess you made that up too. ;)

I just cut and pasted this from NFL.com:
G Att Comp Pct Att/G Yds Avg Yds/G TD TD% Int Int% Lng 20+ 40+ Sck SckY Rate
2014 New York Jets 14 367 219 59.7 26.2 2,525 6.9 180.4 13 3.5 13 3.5 74T 33 7 28 175 77.5

2013 New York Jets 16 443 247 55.8 27.7 3,046 6.9 190.4 12 2.7 21 4.7 69T 43 6 43 315 66.5

I'm no genius, but it looks as though there was improvement in year 2.

Cut and paste didn't line up real well so to summarize:
Compl % increased from 55.8 to 59.7;
TD/INT differential from -9 to 0;
Sacks went from 43 to 28; and
Passer rating from 66.5 to 77.5

We are all emotionally invested in this team, but the baseless rants get a little tiresome. I thought maybe some statistical perspective would help with this argument. :smiley-angry037:

Stats won't help your argument, trust me on that. Only thing that matters is Geno is the worst QB period no matter what the stats say. He will also get cut before game one and be out of football from that point on. SMH and LMFAO!

Fact

Geno

Worst starting QB in the NFL two years running

That is the fact and it is indisputable

All the Superman statz and other pompom waving can't change the facts

geno was the worst. period...as you say, or was he one of the worse? As an example, free agents Hoyer and McCown, were they not worse than Geno last year (I'll answer my own question, yes, they were worse in every statistical and eye ball category)...so how can Geno be "the worst." And Geno has 2 years (1 when he put up last year's numbers)...how long were those guys in the league as of last season?

Point being, he wasn't the worst, is 24, improved in every aspect of the game year 1 to year 2 (these are facts, not the bias emotional Jet fan opinion) and there is a small percentage he'll improve again. Will it be enough? probably not. But there's a lot of over stating going on by the Geno bashers.

Can't wait for the season to start so that the two year nightmare of Geno can finally be over and Jet Fans can again be united in hope for the future of the franchise behind MacBowles.

Bowles especially saw last year how a really crappy QB destroyed a promising season for his Cardinals. NO way he allows a similarly really crappy QB like Smith to do a repeat on him in his first season as an NFL HC for the Jets
