I take it you haven't ordered that custom Jets Mayfield jersey?
No more calls, please.
We have a winner.

The Jets have screwed around with band-aid QB’s (Fitzpatrick, McCown), waited until the second round to draft QB’s (Clemens, G.Smith, Hackenberg), and always seem to not suck enough to be in position to draft a potential FQB. This draft has 3-4 guys being rated as 1st round prospects, including 2-3 as legit top 10 picks.
The team is saying “enough screwing around”. We like a couple of these kids, and we’re confident they’ve got the talent to be franchise QB’s. And virtually every college football/NFL analyst agrees.
I applaud them for that. As I said in a previous post: No guts, no glory.
Agreed. Just sucks that we had to give up some capital all because McCown was playing instead of Petty/Hack. Oh well. What's done is done. I dont care what we give up as long as we have our Franchise QB.
Mac will be a saint if he can finally get us one.
I dont remember if I read this here or somewhere else but I believe drafting a QB this year may have been Mac's plan all along. Keep in mind, he tried tanking so he can get the top pick. We are def getting a QB this draft.
What if the season began today and...
Clearly I have way too much time on my hands. However, I just can't wait for all of this to begin!!!
- Teddy starts and is successful, really successful, there will be screams that we wasted all of those draft picks when we have a 25 year old very capable QB on the roster.
- Teddy starts and is not the same guy he was, McCown comes in and they will have to rely almost entirely on their defense. Chances are he'll win us 4-6 games again. Let the screaming begin!
- McCown starts (please, I hope not) and is successful, there will be screams that we wasted $5mm on Teddy and all of those draft picks for a QB. Mac should have picked one or the other.
- Teddy isn't the same guy he was, McCown comes in and becomes Fitz II, chances are he will still finish out the season and Darnold/Rosen/Allen/Mayfield (D/R/A/M) remains firmly planted on the bench. It seems to me that the Jets are the only franchise who, despite losing seasons, do not feel compelled to play a young, unproven QB, even just to see what he has.
- Hack shows serious progress and stays on the roster. Teddy starts anyway and proves he's recovered. Hack finally gets his shot and shows he's more than capable. D/R/A/M plays the last four games and shows he is a bona fide QB. Mac then has three FQB on this team. And we still manage to only win three games and have a chance to draft a fourth FQB!

If anything, I think the Jets might be blasted more for rushing young QBs than not giving them chances. That does not necessarily go with this administration, but Sanchez and Geno both went out there early - perhaps too early.
Look at what GB did with Rodgers, or the Pats did with Garoppolo. Then again, look at the Cowboys with Prescott or the Rams with Goff, or even the Iggles with Wentz. Both schools have been used (start them early and let them sit), and both have had their hits and misses.
Right, I think what Mac has done here by trading up, and looking at the team we fielded this past season proves that the plan was to suck and get the number 1 pick. Who's fault is it that we screwed this up? Well, maybe McClendon for playing too well, or how about we blame it on Trump. Everything else gets blamed on Trump and he's supposedly friends with Kraft so it must be Trumps fault.
Imagine if we had sucked just a little more, we'd have a top 3 pick plus our second rounders. Then we'd really be in good shape
I don’t buy any notion that NFL teams “tank”. NBA? Yeah, I can see that. But not the NFL.
You’re telling me that guys are gonna run out there and purposely give 75% so that the team will get a higher draft position the following year? You’re telling me GM’s are instructing coaches to instruct players to risk their health going half ass against other players going 100%, full throttle?
Nope. Not buying it.
I think you are bat shit crazy, but in a good way.
Seriously though, I think this changes the free agency calculus for Mac. I believe he needs to fix the WR/TE and OLB/DE problem before the season starts and he may go with one year contracts for older, established players. I'm fine with that as long as they're only one year deals. Teddy or Rosen/Darnold/Allen will need to have a reliable outlet to throw the ball to. He also needs to beef up that anemic pass rush or that expensive and talented secondary will not do well.
I
Some of it will be addressed this offseasoff, most will likely be addressed next offseasoff though. Still alot of money to carry over and with a QB in place, should be a more attreaattr landing spot next year for FAs, TE position is solid, Leggette will be in the mix with Sterling and Tomlinson and Quincy thrived at H back.
Even the WR position Should be fine.
Anderson, Kearse, Stewart , Hansen , . maybe Smith doesn't break and gets on the field, Peake Should return also from the ankle injury.
We definitely need pressure from the edge but not much there in FA. Ziggy Ansah would have been a nice addition but unfortunately he was tagged.
I expect the Jets to be big players in FA next off-season. Giving up the 2 seconds this year pretty much makes it a necessity.
