Jets get LT Clady and Broncos 7th round pick

What a coincidence

Bronx I know your going to harp on this just to show how smarter you are, then everyone else, by stating the obvious, which

almost everyone who follows the draft even remotely knows that in the mid section of the first round, edge rusher and OT will be what's being picked at BAP .

Difference is most people figured it out right after the season. Your a late arrival with an agenda.

Yes, to a rookie. It's done all the time. The Giants are doing it now, the Jetd did it with Brick. I would not have made this trade

and the rookie the giants started at LT last year was terrible. PFF ranked him as its lowest ranked tackle last year

Dud: Did he play hurt, or can you just attribute his struggles to being a rookie? Either way, Ereck Flowers didn’t provide the immediate upgrade the team had hoped for, and was our lowest-graded tackle on the year.

the truth is the jets needed to replace brick and probably should look to replace breno. so while i would have no problem drafting a tackle at #20 if it's BPA, i'd much rather plug a rookie in at RT and have the 4-time pro bowler play LT.

plus you keep saying clady would have been cut. do you know this for sure? that no team would have offered denver a pick at some point? he seems like the type of player who would get dealt during the draft when a team doesn't get a tackle and then dangles a 4th (e.g.) for him. granted i too am speculating, but i don't know how you can say definitively he would be cut.

but since you apparently have a crystal ball, mind sharing the winning lotto numbers here...

I don't need PFF, I watched the games. He had issues in pass protection. So I hope that's what the analysis said. He played like a rookie at times, but the Giants offense was not a problem.

I'm not here to defend him anyway, just to make the point we could survive without giving up a pick

Clady was going to be cut but for the Jets to gamble and wait to sign him doesn't guarantee he would come to New York... The only way to ensure the team got him was to trade for him...

as for the trade itself in theory it is a steal of a deal...

with that saying I am on the shelf believing this will work out for us... Injury prone players are a gamble, but the one year deal w/team option makes it somewhat better... If he gets hurt, it is not a multiple year(s) worth of dead loss... but still think the team needs to draft another mid round prospect to develop... There are 3 to 5 good developmental prospects in rounds 3 & 4 of this years draft... I honestly think John Theus from Georgia makes perfect sense, he would be a steal in the 3rd round and he is versatile play either side...

Home run of a deal. Extraordinarily high reward potential with low risk. If I'm nitpicking, the only thing I don't like is that we have to pay him 13 million in 2017 if he lives up to the billing and we want to keep him. Who knows, maybe we give him a new 3 or 4 year deal at that point. Anyways, that would be a good problem to have (kind of like the one we have with Fitz currently).

I think some fans just enjoy the draft more than they enjoy the season, so of course they're going to be bitchin when we give up picks. Even if we get a 4 time pro-bowler for the ridiculously low cost of moving down from round 5 to round 7.

Moving forward, my crystal ball has us taking OL in the 2nd round of the draft. After Tunsil, Stanley, and Conklin are off the board, the value won't be good at #20. I see us grabbing Germaine Efedi, Jason Spriggs, or Cody Whitehair in round 2. Spriggs or Efedi can compete at RT with Qvale and Ijalana and be groomed to take over LT when Clady leaves. Cody Whitehair is extremely intriguing to sure-up our RG situation. I guess a lot of that depends on what they thing of Jarvis Harrison. I would think Whitehair could also be an intriguing possibility as a future center replacement for Mangold too. Might be good value there and fill the BPA philosophy.

Well could we have survived last year without giving up a 5th for Marshall??

It was a great move. No argument. Hope I'm very wrong on this one. I just don't want him on IR by week 3. Only time will tell

I don't want that either. Good thing for Clady is he had a complete year of rest for the foot and knee.

I know some fans like to bash every move the Jets make, but this is a solid deal - especially after the restructuring. The compensation was minimal, and if healthy, the Jets actually got an upgrade at LT. Younger, more dynamic, though certainly less consistent and less steady.

It just seems like you have to go to great lengths to try to bash this move.

To me this is a good move depending on all the moves we make. I got to see more as of today we are dead in the water for this season......but we need to see the rest of the moves. If we have no Qb & are getting older that means one thing we need to be able to win now for this to be a good move

we saved money with ferguson's retirement & in all likelihood upgraded..

somebody has to be our LT next season scotch, regardless of who our QB will be..

Why are we dead in the water?? As of right now, we have lost Snacks as our biggest loss and with it being a passing league he is easier to replace. Fitz will be back. Our RB's are better. Our OL is better and younger. So many over reactions so far.

Without the injury issue, no way we get him in this level of deal.

I like this trade because

1. it adds a guy with ability
2. it avoids us having to draft for need or make another desperation move. This front office understands that you try to create situations in which can make wise decisions - often BPA decisions in the draft - other decisions - and not desperate decisions'

Might be first front office we've ever had that understands this.

Think about this.

Macc has traded two 5th round picks for Marshall, Clady, and 2 7th round picks. Yes Marshall has had a ton of off field, and locker room problems in the past. So far he has been a model citizen. Clady has been hurt 2 of the last 3 years. After his foot injury in 2013, he came back in 2014 and went to his 4th Pro Bowl. He hurt his knee on May 28, almost a year ago. He should be ready to attend the OTA's at close to 100%. I'm sure they will go slow with him, but it shouldn't be an issue.

He was given a physical, and worked out before the deal was done. He doesn't have a "chronic" injury like Cro's hip that keeps on coming back every year. He's only 29 YO. Not 35. If he doesn't work out at a Pro Bowl level, and the Jets don't pick up the option, He will go into FA and the Jets more then likely get a late round comp pick back. Trade won't cost them anything. Can't promise the comp pick, but it will at least cancel another FA signing toward another comp pick.

Will he blow another knee up? Don't know. Will Revis blow another knee up, or get another concussion and retire? Don't know. That's the risk we take, and they take, with all these guys.

I just don't see how anyone can think this is a disaster trade. If Clady is playing at an All Pro level at the end of the year, he is well worth 10-13 M.

LOL What's not to like?

Some people would think we overpaid if we traded a tackling sled for him.
This idea he would be released and picked up for nothing, completely disregards the fact you would likely have 5+ teams bidding for his services. Clady knowing we desperately need a LT. You'd likely be paying through the nose for him if he was cut

Unfortunately this team doesn't cap space to do that

Simple as of now Fitz is not back.....I got to look at the facts. Not saying he will or won't be back but he is not back.......
Snacks stopped the middle stone cold!

Lets see what happens
