Jets look to have interest in Glennon

Why, WTF for??? He got benched before Winston even got there and hasn't won the job back since. He's rode the bench now for 3-4 years, so why? Why dammit, WHY??? I'm tired of these re-thread half bread hacks the Jets keep signing or trading for. It's bullshit!!! Hopefully Hack comes around and I'm sure they'll be drafting a QB this year anyway. So hopefully one of them pan out because I don't see it in Petty either. Geno and fitzshitty of course I hope I never see them in a Jets uniform again.

You mentioned Romo in another thread as an option. But what good will that do? The Jets aren't close to contending right now, so why would we bring in a guy expected to be a short term answer, which would probably net an 8-8 season at best?

With Hackenberg and Petty, you get a good long look at them before writing them off too soon. At least with Glennon, you have a possibility of finding a long term answer. Not saying Glennon is a lock, nor that we should pay him big dollars, but I'd rather gamble on him than bring in Romo so he can have his shoulder removed from his torso about week 12.

Besides, Romo isn't going anywhere but a contender next season. Mark it down.

I hear ya and I'm truly not interested in Romo or Cutler. Although I think both would be better then Fitzgarbage, Geno and Glennon. That's why I'm not interested in Glennon. Maybe I'm wrong and that's definitely a possibility but if Glennon was worth something, the Bucs would have traded him for a high pick or two. Clearly he wasn't going to beat out Winston. How about this, if he was worth anything the Bucs wouldn't have drafted Winston period. Like I said, I'm tired of these re-thread hack QBs. Whether their 10 year vets or 4 year vets. Like you said and I agree, let Petty and Hack fight it out. They need to draft a QB somewhere along the line and put him in the fighting mix. May the best man win. Hope I'm wrong here but I'm worried Petty isn't the guy either, right about now.

First off he outplayed McCown but Lovie Smith does not like young QBs nor does he develop them well... This is why he was fired after 2 seasons even though the team showed improvement. The Bucs with young talented QB's, specifically Winston, knew this is a QB driven league stick with the offensive mind... Something we need to do and fast.... We must get an OC that will develop a young talented QB's and let him do his thing...

Obviously you see something I don't and that's great. Hope your right and I'm wrong because if I'm not, that's another waisted effect in yet another QB. Who isn't a rookie!!!

Glennon is worth backup money at best. He should in no way be paid like Brock was and I think the NFL learned their lesson watching that train wreck.

How about Alex Smith in Kansas? 49ers choose Collin over him. And how about the chargers running Drew Brees out of town? You can't just look at once side of the argument.

The bigger question is who would you recommend we go after instead? Cutler, Romo? Draft a qb ranked 32 wroth the 6th pick?

They should go with what they have and if they don't work out then they will have a top three pick next year.

houston made the playoffs by being the best team in the worst division in football. osweiler was benched and tom savage started 2 games when they clinched the playoffs. he was then knocked out with a concussion and osweiler came back for week 17 (which they lost).

yes, they beat the raiders in the 1st round when the raiders were forced to play their 3rd string QB due to injuries. i guess he gets credit for not sucking more than connor cook in that game.

i don't consider osweiler's season a success, even if his team made the playoffs and advanced a round. i certainly don't think he earned the $18 million average salary he was paid for the year or the $21 million in cash he collected last year, nor is he worth his $16 million base salary for 2017. and if they move on after 2017, they will have $6 million of dead money.

again, he got benched for tom savage and only got his job back because of injury. heck, o'brien won't even commit to him for next year when he has a $16 million base salary.

so yeah, these are the types of contracts i wish to avoid for mediocre QBs. you may not consider osweiler overpaid since the houston GM felt the need to give him that contract. most other GMs probably would consider that type of money to a QB you ended up benching as being overpaid.

Thank you for using paragraphs, it makes reading threads so much easier.

Build the O-Line 1st and foremost. Give Glennon or any young QB a chance to showcase any sort of development and production. If Glennon wants $15mil a year, scrap that plan and invest in a LT via free agency or trade.

If 15 mill is the threshold, what linemen is a free agent this year, who will demand anywhere near that amount?

Andrew Whitworth, Matt Kalil, Reilly Reiff, or William Beatty. Those are the best FA LT's on the market. Reiff probably won't be available very long.

This is where the $15mil should be geared to. Shore up the line and allow the young QB to develop the right way.

What do people think about Colt McCoy ? He's shown flashes and is a gritty veteran. He was able to put up respectable numbers that year he was forced to start when rg got hurt . I don't know if he's a FA but if we're going with petty / rookie / hack to compete I wouldn't mind a veteran like him who's prob itching for a chance to start

PASS... At this point I am on the Petty and Hack Train.... Let them develop into what their talent says they could be. Or let them crash and burn..

the two of them have only a slightly better chance at being named the starter in '17 than you or i do..

That's great man.... On June 24th, 2016 you and I both had as good as a chance as being named starter for the Dallas Cowboys than Dak Prescott....

Bottom line; I don't see a QB in this draft or FA that will be a Franchise guy.... (could be wrong , see the above Dak comment LOL)

I think Glennon and Hoyer could be solid starters, Maybe Glennon can be a franchise guy since he has had very limited opportunity. And if Foles and Taylor get released they also can be solid starters but not franchise guys.... Both Petty and Hack have tools you and I don't..... And we 100% need to see Petty playing behind an OL not made of swiss cheese and if he fails we need to see Hacks development.... Cause Next year will be a better QB class, at least it looks that way , then this year. We have some good young talent in some spots so lets try to keep building around the WR's, the DL and get the help at LT the OL needs and go from there.. I rather draft a QB in round 4 again this year and try and catch lightning in a bottle ala Russel Wilson, Tom Brady...and if not we swing again next year at guys like Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold, etc.... at the top of the draft

sadly, what "we" need has nothing to do with petty or hackenberg starting next season..

Actually if WE are ever going to find a franchise QB hack and Petty playing is exactly what WE need. Because WE will either discover what you have already set in stone that both Petty and Hack aren't good QB's therefore WE will have to go out and draft someone in the top 5 next year. Or WE just might have a franchise guy in Petty or Hack given the opportunity. But either way WE need them playing next year cause there isn't a franchise QB anywhere to be seen this offseason at the moment.

OK, this train has gone off the rails..

i very much want both petty & hackenberg to get a serious look to see if one or both can be legitimate NFL starting QBs for the jets..

i believe that won't happen because bowles will be chasing enough wins to try to save his job..

i don't believe bowles will want to try & save his job (unless mandated) with either petty or hackenberg due to their lack of experience..

OK my bad... We were on two different trains. LOL... From that perspective, you could be right. Actually more than likely right, sadly
