Is anyone else as stupefied by MacCagnan's roster moves as I am? He has now had two off seasons and I am completely unimpressed with his moves.
1 the fact that he is claiming 4 guys off the waiver wire is an indictment of how poor the lower part of the roster is. (Which was confirmed by the Eagles game). One or two I can see but four?
2 He has had two off seasons. Six of the nine olinemen are unproven, mediocre or outright suck. Other than the Clady move he has brought in no one else and his two draft choices, Harrison and Shell (who cost a 2017 4th round pick) were horrendous.
3 Four QBs? Not when they are named Fitzpatrick,Geno Smith,Bryce Petty and Hachenburg. They're an argument for carrying 2 QBs not four.
4 Four TEs? These four? Are you kidding me?
We kept some questionable guys at the expense of Taiwan Jones, Ronald Martin, Ross, Thompkins, Amaro and others. Letting Idzik's guys go shows me nothing. Letting Smith or Petty, and Shell go would have been more impressive.
How many more years do we give Mac to address the offensive line, QB and TE with some degree of competence and to manage the cap to give some flexibity to the team (Sitton would have been nice) so I do not long for the Idzik days. I know this is not a popular view but I am tired of GMs trying to be cute and show us how smart they are (keeping Wilkins on the roster originally, keeping Howsare, keeping 4 TEs and 4 QBs etc). I will be more impressed next year if we don't have to pick up ten percent of the roster off the waiver wire on cutdown day.
