Jets TOP 5 issues or concerns

Maybe someone steps up and alleviates one or more of these concerns, but until then here are the TOP 5 issues we still need to address. If nobody steps up and surprises us this year at said positions, I'm sure we'll try to add depth during cutdown's and we do have a nice waiver claim position at #3, or maybe Douglas shocks with a trade or two for a player like LT Trent Williams who remains a holdout for the Redskins, but barring anything unforeseen of that nature, here's where 2020 free agency and the draft will be crucial.

1. O-line: I could say LT but that hardly covers it all. LT is always the #1 OL priority, but there are other OL positions we need to upgrade as well.

2. #1 WR: And by that I mean a real #1 WR, not a 2 or even a 1B, but the kind of WR who strikes the fear of God into DC's and DB's.

Note: I know some people may have CB or ER ahead of WR, but I'm starting with the two areas of need that can make Sam the best QB he can be.

3. ER: I don't mean a pretty good ER. I mean an elite ER. IMO that player makes the life of DB's easier, more than the reverse.

4. CB: I'm hopeful Trumaine stays healthy and has a bounce-back year, because I know how good he can be, but either way another CB is a top priority.

5. RB: If Bell is still Bell we obviously have an elite dual threat at the position, but I don't like the depth and if he goes down we're in big trouble.

Note: IMO you always need two starting caliber RB's in this league and throughout the Jets history they have rarely been without that 1B behind the 1A.

I don’t have any concerns about RB. Depth is actually loaded. Powell, McGuire, Montgomery, and UFA Jalin Moore was a great signing. He was considered one of the best available UFA’s when the Jets took him. Montgomery got a lot of positive comments from Gase the other day. We have a lot of RB’s who can run the ball and catch the ball.

I’m not too worried about WR, either. Unless Enunwa gets hurt again. Otherwise we’re stocked up with Q, Robby, Crowder, and don’t forget Herndon when he’s back. Sam has enough weapons considering all the backs who can catch it, too.

Not gonna argue with the other concerns, though.

We all know or can agree that the Jets have significantly improved from last year (actually the past couple of years). That’s in the roster, coaches and front office. It doesn't matter who mainly put this roster together at this point and we all know it was Mac. Mac did sign some excellent free agents, traded for all-pro oline men Osemele and at least drafted three quality players in Williams, Polite and Wesco, and possibly another good player in the rookie oline men. WR, I believe we are okay although we don't have a bonafide #1 guy. I say this because we do have L. Bell and good to very good players at the rest of the RB, WR and TE positions. So we should be ok there, I HOPE!!!

With all that said Mac did drop the ball at the CB position, IMO and I’m sure other fans feel he dropped the ball at other positions. Perfect scenario for me is whatever position he dropped the ball, that the younger players step up and become stars filling the gaps of what the team needs. The Jets have 2-3 young CBs that it appears they will get significant playing time this year. They have to, who else are the Jets going to play at that position? Sleeper pick might be the rookie CB if he can ever get healthy. With that said, if at least two of the those corners can become the starters we need to solidify the defense and that will help this team become true contenders. Edge rusher will have to be a combined effort but Polite must show something.

I believe the Jets have a roster to contend for a playoff spot this year. Whether or not they can win the division, I doubt that but a wild-card spot I can see that. Problem is there are a few positions that are weak links for this team. IMO, it’s the CB position and depth at pretty much every position except the dline and LB spot (mainly). Oline I think we are decent at, good enough to be a contender this year. They just need to build on it from here. Others may feel differently obviously but overall, where ever there lacking if the younger players can step up and fill those gaps this team will be set for success for quite some time. This eliminates trading for players and giving away draft picks or other players.

To me, while Macc had not done a good job building the OL, C was a MUCH bigger concern than LT. Beachum has been a steady starter. Center, on the other hand, was a gaping hole.

Upgrading at C was a must, and it was addressed. Upgrading at LT is a luxury right now. CB is a bigger need right now. In fact, with the Kalil signing, CB is the biggest need right now. Bigger than WR. Bigger than edge.

My #1 concern was definitely addressed with Kalil for this year, but if JD wants to finish the job .... please get the Silverback.

Agree.

CB2 is now the only position that scares me a little. Roberts is a mystery. The league is running a lot of 3 receiver sets, and although I’m comfortable with TJ and Poole, I’m not too confident in Roberts. Hopefully JD is looking far and wide for potential candidates, just like he did with Kalil.

CB2? We need a CB1 as I don’t believe in Trumaine at all. Can he return to being a better then average CB or very good CB under Gregg Williams defense? I hope so but until I see it I won’t believe it. IMO, we need a CB1 and Trumaine can hopefully be a decent CB2. Roberts and Poole are serviceable but I don’t think they are CB2 material. They’re both CB3 at best. We need two CBs whether they are the younger guys on the current team or someone else not here yet to give this team what it needs to fill that void. Roberts and Poole IMO ain’t it!

Agreed! Been saying it for a few months now and started a thread on this that CB is our biggest weakness. Our oline was serviceable at best but now appears to formidable with the Kalil signing. Jets are decent to excellent at every position now except CB. They need to fix that before game one of the season. How I don’t know but they need to figure it out.

If we had a great pass rush, it wouldn’t concern me as much about the CB position. A great pass rush can soften the burden on the corners. That’s why we need guys like Quinnen Williams and Polite to be impact players this year. It’s a domino effect. If they’re factors, then Leo gets freed up, the corners don’t have to cover as long, and so forth.

Ham , I enjoy your enthusiasm, but what should be considered ( what with salary cap restrictions ) is veteran salary overload. Considering the vets we just signed via FA , what happens with the Big Cat and his expiring rookie contract , then next up , Jamal Adams, and soon after that , our franchise QB? Personally , rather than trading away any 2nd round picks for Silverback , I’d prefer to see us stay put and draft possibly our franchise center of the future in. a guy like Tyler Biadasz , probably the best o-linemen in college football , who happens to play center , and also help out our secondary by drafting a c/b in the second round.
