You remembered it partially right.
HYATT™ did say that if Fitzpatrick is the starter, HYATT™ expects no less than for the Jets to compete for the Big Dance up to at least the AFCC game level.
HYATT™ just never went psycho (14-2) level about it.
Honestly, (11-5) should buy a ticket to the post season and from there it's up to the guys, but there's no real doubt that the Amish Rifle could carry his part through the playoffs.
Strong defense is a good tonic even for an anemic offense in the playoffs.

I appreciate the correction.

I would imagine this is another case of mistaken memory, or selective memory, like this false notion that everyone else at the old scout agreed with absolutely everything Idzik did.

That's like trying to forget you were married to your ex-wife.

nope, you Guys spent 2 years milking that bull before finally realizing it wasn't milk you were drinking.

You really believe this, don't you? You really think you are the only guy who ever criticized anything Idzik did.

You TOTALLY ignore how many people, myself included, bashed him when he let DRC leave the building when the Jets had a huge hole at CB. In your distorted memory, nobody but you has ever criticized the Jets for anything. You're the one Jets fan who isn't 100% on board with everything the team does.

This is one of the most pessimistic, jaded, negative, glass-half-empty fan bases in the NFL, but YOU are the one fan who ever criticizes the Jets.

Two consecutive #1 picks. The very next season, Peyton comes out. Story of our lives.
Even worse since it was reported Peyton would have come out a year earlier if Parcells had made the commitment to draft him. Never heard if that was true or not but we're talking Jets luck here.

I had heard that, too. He wanted to be guaranteed the top pick. Parcells wouldn't do that, so he goes back to Tennessee to try to win the Heisman.

If you look at it a bit further. In 1997, not only did we not get Manning, but we traded back out of the #1 pick to #6 . Then traded the #6 pick to move back to 8 to accumulate picks. The Rams took perennial pro bowler and likely future HOFer Orlando Pace at #1 . Seattle took HOFer Walter Jones at #6 . And we got James Farrior at #8 , plus Leon Johnson, Dedric Ward and a few other guys like DE Terry Day and QB Chuck Clement who each played 1 game in their entire NFL careers. Farrior had a nice career, but most of it with Pitt.

Good memories.

Just think if he would've won the Heisman...... there would be no way we should draft him then........

true...winning the heisman would clearly have sent his career on a downward trajectory. he should thank woodson for beating him out :)

There's something DOUBLY DELICIOUS about that fact, isn't there?

FACTOID OF THE DAY
King Chuck has never picked off the QB taken #1, three spots higher than Woodson in the 1998 NFL draft - in 8 meetings over their respective 17 year careers.:st-patricks-day-smi
