Jets faithful, I figured we can have a Justin Fields separate forum just for debated our expectations/hopes for Justin Fields. This is not necessarily an overall team debate or season prediction debate forum. This is just about what we expect or hope for Justin Fields to produce to prove that he is worthy of keeping and building the team around. He’s only signed for 2-years & 30M guaranteed. So that is pretty much pennies compared to the normal status of what players/QBs are getting paid now.
I’ll start it off by saying, let’s say the Jets win 8 games this year and Justin plays relatively healthy the entire year, that is a decent year record wise. A definite improvement from last year but it doesn’t necessarily mean that Justin should remain the Jets QB. It all depends on what he contributes to it that makes me feel he’s a potential beast (franchise QB) to he’s solid (give him another year) to he’s garbage and (he’s gotta go).
Of course I’m hoping this kid turns to be the real deal for us but I have no real expectations of granger here. I’m truly just hoping to see some promise in Justin. Something that says he has learned and can potentially be our guy. Something that says we should give him another year. If not that, then just stink it all up, so we all know it’s time to move on at the end of the year and draft a QB in 26.
This oline the Jets have should be damn near very good, if they can stay healthy of course and the weapons around him ain’t half bad either. Jets are building back this defense also. So let’s see what Justin’s about this year. It will be very interesting.
So let’s say he throws for 4,000 yards, 66% comp, 29 throwing TDs, 14 ints, and rushes for about 400 yards and 5 rushing TDs. Obviously these are some real stats. Damn near for a combo QB, franchise QB type stats and he’s a keeper. Also if he puts up these type of stats, the Jets are more than likely winning more than 8 games. Let’s be clear, I’m not expecting these type of stats, AT ALL!
Now, let’s go with 3,100 yards, 64% comp, 19 TDs, 9 ints, about 600 yards rushing and 5 rushing TDs. I’m going to say that’s pretty decent and he contributed to the Jets winning those 8 games. Stats like this might also contribute to more than 8 wins. If it doesn’t, it probably contributed to a bunch of competitive nail biting losses. Also that he’s showing some promise and the Jets should give him one more year to show and prove he can be better and lead this team to some real promise.
Now let’s go with 2200 yards, 60% comp, 14 TDs, 18 ints, and he runs for about 800 yards and 9 TDs. To me, we have a real problem here and he’s gotta go. This is damn near Zach Wilson type shit. A slightly better version of it, of course. This means to me that he not reading the defenses fast enough and seeing the field correctly. Also he’s not getting the ball out his hands fast enough. It’s also means to me that the Jets won these 8 games because of the defense and running game carried him.
This right here means to me that he’s no better than he was in Chicago and probably regressed from what he was doing in Pittsburgh. I think it’s safe to say that if he would have remained the starter in Pittsburgh last year, he would have put up better stats than this. More like what I predicted with the 3100 yards, etc-etc … option.
So what’s your thoughts, hopes or expectations for Justin this year?
