La Canfora: Jets have some interest in Jay Cutler

with all due respect, i believe you're getting ahead of yourself..

Perhaps. But the Jets do need a 1-year veteran QB rental. And if you're thinking all that means is having a babysitter to teach the kids then, yes, Romo would be as good a choice as Cutler for that purpose. But sometimes things can go better than expected. If the Jets even get close to the playoffs next season, I would be worried that even a regular season game that is crucial for getting in might bring out the old "wilt in the heat" Romo we have seen in his playoff performances. That is really all I meant.

understood..

still, if we are playing "meaningful" games in december, we would (almost certainly) have to be getting very good/great QB play..

i'd take my chance's with romo over cutler..

i would really like to see petty & or hackenberg win the job but no way in hell bowles is starting one of the kids with his fanny on the line.. my opinion anyway..

I say not to Cutler as well but they said this morning or for the past couple of days that Jay Cutler is thinking of retiring because he does not want to play for a non-contender or something to that nature. If this is the case then I guess we fans have nothing to worry about regardless. I see it this way if he does in fact come our way, I'd rather have him then Fitzshitty!!! Fitz has all the leadership and guts quality but none the talent. Cutler is the exact opposite. All the talent in the world but lacking the guts and leadership qualities. Maybe a change of scenario would give him a spark for a year or two? I doubt it seriously and this is why I say no to Cutler but if he did sign with us, I wouldn't blast it the idea immediately because his talent can not be denied.

I'd rather the Jets loss with a younger QB and build with him then Cutler or anyone else that's out there but if Hack, Petty or any rookie they draft truly isn't ready, then what choose do you have!!! It's not like the Jets would win 10-11 games and be a real playoff contender with Cutler, Romo or anyone else so why bother? Start a young QB and build with him and see where it goes this year. This will be a long and hard felt rebuilding process Jets faithful, so brass yourselves for it and be patient. I know I'm trying to and can do so with a young QB but put us in another vet QB wash out situation and that will piss me off.

As to the first sentence bolded above, all I can say is, did he think he was playing with a contender on the Bears the last couple seasons?? As for the second bolded, I agree, if the Jets have built a good O-line. Please, no more Mark Sanchez type rushing out of a young QB just to either damage his confidence or, even worse, to get him injured.

Fair points, but remember we have the same core players from a 10 win season, and Romo is a far superior qb to Fitz. We now have extra draft picks with experience under their belts. With Romo and smart off season moves, we could reach the playoffs.

AS stated by others this wouldn't be a terrible idea... Not quite Ideal... I only make this moove if you have 0 confidence in Petty and Hack to amount to anything this year or next.... I would preferably want Petty and Hack to battle it out in camp with a veteran like Hoyer or McCown as the back up who can step in if they are failing miserably.

I wouldn't use cap room if it's needed for more long term producers, but if his contract doesn't keep us from signing cb help, etc. I'm for it. My caveat is this, coaching staff has to do their homework and understand him inside and out, and feel confident that they can get him to make the throws the wrs need to continue developing. It would be a low risk mindset when reading defenses coupled worth a balanced attack, and his strong arm can make those deep sideline passes to robbie.

honestly, that's fair..

but what are are fans that refuse to acknowledge smith had close to zero support from his teammates & coaching staff??

Where are you getting that from? I seem to recall quite a few high profile players saying they supported Geno. Now, some may have been putting on a good face when questioned about it, but I don't have any idea how 52 other guys honestly felt about him as their starting QB.

i was about to start some more point, counterpoint on smith but then i read your post to moe about possibly "turning the page.. "

we're all dug in extremely deep on this debate, regardless of what side the other might be..

besides, i don't have the energy for it anymore..

lets see if he can prove he's the QB he believes himself to be at his next stop.. i don't believe he will but safe to say, you already know as much..

Training camp, all the off-season work and the preseason games will tell us all about the oline. If that is the case then starting a young QB and see what he has. Question will be and hopefully the answer will be yes, is will there be a young QB ready to go by game one this season?

Don't know about that but only time will tell. Romo would be great for 2-3 years with a ready team, "If he can stay healthy." Cutler might be a very good option also, "If he can be even half way excited about it." Those are all very big ifs. Biggest if is if we have a true contending team."

Glennon received offer from bucs to be highest paid backup,he d declined, wants to start.
Apparently he's a perfect pocket passer looking down field. Not ideal in our reported west coast offense.

I don't think he s on our radar. With that sais I haven't seen much on us running a WCO. I have heard Morton's offense will be based on the personnel on the offense and on what defense they are playig week to week. Which is kind of what Charlie Weiss did as an OC and how NE and the Saints run their offense with more of a focus on passing.. IDK we will see,

I sincerely hope that we do not pursue Cutler - we dont need Mr Potato Head

And we do not need Fragile Tony
