The US Library of Congress uses pure naptha, (lighter fluid in Inglitch parlance), to clean precious documents of "sticky" substances.
It leaves little or no residue of itself once it evaporates, though it can cause discoloration in some instances.
The discoloration is often a result of cleaning the document TOO well and removing discoloration caused by aging and atmospheric pollutants, (natural yellowing), though it can also dissolve and move some inks around.
The next time you want to clean the sticky residue from a price tag, squirt a little lighter fluid on it, then peel it off after it has soaked in it for a few seconds & wipe with a paper towel .
Squirt a little more lighter fluid on the paper towel itself and wipe again to remove any last traces of the price sticker's glue.
It even works really well on old paper back books that generally tend to tear rather than give up their hold on an old price sticker.

That's almost a grand ($990.97) to MY immediate family of 4.
Now this is where it gets interesting.
Each "local economy dollar" spent is said to circulate through 7 hands before being exhausted of it's purchasing power.
In other words, if Bill Gates gave my family that $990.97, & it was spent locally to exhaustion, it would eventually result in $6,936.79 worth of business and taxes IN my local community.
Ergo, every 4 families receiving their fair share Bill Gates donation would provide 1 ($27,747.16) wage job in the local community or an average hourly wage to that person of roughly $13.87 per hour.
(Considering gummint taxes are continually eating away at it & that money is eventually recirculated as well, it could be even more, though that probably already figures into the 7X local multiplier.)
I hope this sheds some light on WHY redistribution of excess wealth held by people who don't really need it is GOOD for the economy and results in more wealth overall.
America's economy never worked better than when the wealthiest individuals paid NO LESS THAN 70% of their income in taxes from 1940-1980.
It spawned the greatest middle class the world had ever seen.
At the height of it, from 1951-1963, the wealthiest Americans never paid less than 91% of their income in taxes.
America didn't pull out of the Great Depression until they raised the top tax bracket from the 1929 low of 24% back to 63% in 1932.
