Looking beyond this season

There are many unknowns after this season, but going to do my best to give an example of what may happen with this roster:

Players that will be released:

Antonio Cromartie - no guarantee money makes this a must opening up $8 M more $$$s for 2016
Jeff Cumberland - no guarantee money and no role on offense makes this an easy move opens up $$$s for 2016
Zac Stacy - with 1 year left on his rookie contract and suffering a season ending injury basically sealed his fate

Players that COULD be released:

Brick Ferguson - his play has diminished this season and his dead money isn't big (trade value?)
Nick Mangold - like Brick his contract allows the Jets to move forward (trade value?)
Brandon Marshall - contract has no guarantees and depending on how he finishes this season will determine his fate

Players that won't be re-signed:

Demario Davis - hasn't developed into a dependable inside presence
Jaiquawn Jarrett - with the emergence of Dion Bailey there is no need to bring Jarrett back
Antonio Allen - even tho AA has potential but don't see a spot for AA
Steven Ridley - wow what a bust signing, since off the PUP has done nothing on the field
Ben Ijalana - who? yes he is on the roster just collecting a pay check basically inactive on the active roster

Players that SHOULDN'T be re-signed:

Darrin Walls - good special team's player but limited in coverage
Willie Colon - time to retire
Chris Owusu - should retire from football before he gets killed
Calvin Pace - the old guy, time to put him to the pasture
Chris Ivory - 50/50 guy, hard worker but will be 28 and can't be dependable for a full season

Players that COULD be on the trading block:

Sheldon Richardson - loaded defensive line, he could be the odd man out
Geno Smith - Clearly not a TB guy might be worth trying to get a pick for him
Dee Milliner - Durability issues, could see if someone will offer a late round pick for him
Breno Giacomini - Impact blocker not of this regime should be shopped
Tommy Bohanon - Another position not a factor on offense he has value
Brick Ferguson - Even tho his play has diminished he still has starter value
Nick Mangold - Like Brick play has fallen off but is still a heady center
Jace Amaro - Every player needs a role on this team but we don't use TEs
Brandon Marshall - he could be shopped but he has stipulated that NYJ is his last stop

Players that MUST be re-signed:

Bilal Powell - a true all around option at RB, need that veteran option on the field
Julian Stanford - should contend for active roster spot next year
Damon Harrison - our anchor on the defensive line
Muhammad Wilkerson - contract dispute, but is worth every penny
Erin Henderson - Henderson's come back is a success but deserves more playing time
Jamari Lattimore - has earned his role on this team

Draft focus, positions of need and possible free agent targets:

RB (2) - one RB could be UFA Chris Polk currently of Houston Texans
WR (1) - there is plenty of talent at this position but ex-Petty teammate Corey Coleman could be there
CB (1) - sleeper prospect William Likely from Maryland fits a Bowles' secondary b/c of his diversity able to play inside or out
DE/LB (1) - can go many ways through FA or Draft, Devonte Fields from Louisville could be the target
OG (1) - FA Brandon Brooks currently of the Houston Texans is a Maccagnan guy
OT (1) - Draft would be the smart move

Thoughts???

Players that Will be Released

Yeah, got to think Cumberland, and Stacy are both goners. Always kind of liked Cummby, but he just hasn't improved enough, and doesn't fit. Cro I'm not so sure about. For sure he won't be back at 8 million, but Bowles seems to like him, he may be back in a different role, and for a lot less money.

Players that could be released

OUCH. I really hope that all 3 of these guys are back, but it is VERY possible that some, or all of them could be gone.

Think Marshall will be back. Barring some disaster, he has earned his money. Jets gave him a raise they didn't have to in the trade. Think they will pay him.

Brick and Nick are a different story. Nick is still playing at a fairly high level, but of course descending some. Brick is having a poor season. This will be both players final contract, and where as I'm sure they would like to retire as Jets, they are also not going to take millions less to stay. Neither have any trade value at their current contracts.. Think they will be allowed to establish what their value is on the open market. Think both will give the Jets right of first refusal, if the Jets want it. Very up in the air right now.

Players That won't be resigned

Disagree on Davis. Think he has a very good chance to be back. He is excellent against the run, and a sideline to side line player. His major flaw is for some reason he is struggling with covering RB's. Think they may be going platoon on this spot. Davis still has good value, and won't be to expensive.

Allen I'm not sure about either. Think he's a very good player. Rex might make him more expensive then the Jets want to pay.

Agree on Ridley, (very disappointing to me) and Jarrett
Ijalana, I just don't know about. Guys been on the team for a few years, who knows what he can do, Brick has never missed a game. it would be great if Ijalana could step in if the deal with Brick goes south.

Players that Shouldn't be re-signed

Agree with all of them. Even Ivory, who I love. Guys 28 I think. For a RB that's old. Probably going to get a decent pay day.

Players that could be on trading block

IMO, do to contract cost, age, or they just suck, don't think Smith, Milliner, Giacomini. Bohanon, Brick, Nick, or Marshall have any trade value. Tops a 6th or 7th.

Richardson is a different situation. This is a special player. Who is also very immature. He is looking at, perhaps a 10 game suspension next time he takes a toke, and I'm not convinced he won't. He also might get some more games tagged on pending the result of his court case. i can also guarantee he is going to be very difficult to sign when the time comes. If they trade him the Jets might have to go below true market value for a player with his talent.

Amaro another baffling situation. Kid has some talent, but seemed to have gotten himself in Bowles dog house early on before he was injured. Don't have a clue what is going to happen with this guy.

Players that Must be signed

Powell, Snacks, and Mo i agree with, the others ? Meh

Mangold has had the lingering injury, but I disagree that his play has fallen off to any meaningful degree.

Who would you replace Brick, Mangold with? Even Walls and Ivory will be hard to match talent/dollars I think.

That is certainly a good question, and it's why Macc makes the big bucks. One thing i can guarantee you, they are not paying Nick, and Brick $22,500,000 between them next year.

How they are going to fix that remains to be seen.

James Carpenter is an utility o-lineman he is capable replacement for Brick at left tackle...

For replacing Nick Mangold not overly excited but Wesley Johnson has done a decent job and could be the replacement...

Expecting GM Maccagnan to go after Brandon Brooks who would fill the RG position, moving Brian Winters back to LG this would leave us with a hole at RT if the team decides to move on from Breno... Wouldn't be shocked to see the team offer Ben Ijalana the chance to start at RT if they move on from Breno...

I disagree. It's been a disaster when Mangold hasn't been in for us. They will certainly have to figure out something between him and Brick, though.

The other player they absolutely need to get locked down imo, is Mo. He's been nothing but loyal and he's having a great year. If they do so, i wouldn't hate it if they traded Richardson. He's very talented but not worth the trouble. Let's not forget the nfl has not yet penalized him for his arrest this past July- I'm sure he'll be facing a suspension of some sort for the 2016 season.

I think that would be taking a big step backwards at a position that we can't afford to take a step backwards at - we've got brittle QBs (likely at least one of them next year too) and some tough pass rushers in our division. I think they re-work Brick and he retires a Jet.

Mangold gets healthy and he's fine at his salary.

Well he makes the big bucks to decide everything were talking about, and yet that's why we're here...

I do not think Mo is a must re-sign. All depends on the contract. Anything silly let him go. He is just not good enough overall despite being a Pro Bowl caliber player.

Cro needs to rework to 5 mill, ivory is worth keeping, his injury balances out his talent which makes him affordable.
Cumberland, 1 mill or walk. Demario won't demand big bucks, but is a stable presence.

O line must have consistency, almost as important as talent, we can't win without Mangold, don't know what you're watching. The other guys can stay at the price they are worth, I would infuse a draft pick into the line to start a youngish player trend. Experience works on the line. Trade Richardson for 2 number 1s.

NO ONE would trade 2 no 1s for Mo. by letting him go, trades are included in that, we could possibly get a 1

I agree. We probably can get a one at most for Mo. No way two first rounders.
