Marrone Opts Out - Jets are Frontrunners

New York Jets become favorites to land former Bills HC Doug Marrone, who is from the Bronx.

I understand why every one is good with Marrone, he did a nice job last year. Do you really want to hire a HC before the new GM gives his approval?

Don't you think a guy like DeCosta might not like that. Or how about the Seattle dynamic duo? IDK about this. Seems like the same mistake that was made 2 years ago

Doug Marrone has link to one of Jets' GM candidates, Eagles pro personnel director Rick Mueller. Worked 3 yrs together w/ NO (06-08). #nyj

Both Rick Mueller and Brian Gaine have ties to Doug Marrone. Mueller is interviewing for Jets GM job. Gaine did two years ago.

Not a big deal. You don't lose the HC you want because the GM isn't in place. The big difference here is that both the HC and GM would be on the same timeline. The Jets would be fools to delay if they can make this hire.

GM picks the coach. That's the right route. Otherwise you get a half assed gm who is forced to work with a coach he may not like, a la idzik and Rex. Gm is hired and interviews and picks the coach so they are on the same page. We hire marrone who has a vision and a gm who has another and we may as well have kept Rex and idzik

And with the Jets, Marrone and Maccagnan go way, way back. Maccagnan signed him to be QB of the London Monarchs in 1991. Strong bond there

The Jets couldn't get DeCosta if they kidnapped him..

The Chiefs hired Reid before their GM, and the Browns hired Pettine before their GM. It's not that unusual! Don't think everything is like Idzik/Rex.
