I have no problem calling him out for that.
You know, there IS a gray area. Someone can actually dislike Geno and still think it's wrong for someone else to break his jaw, no matter what role Geno had in provoking or escalating the situation.
We don't necessarily disagree on your base point. Yes, IK certainly had a great deal of fault here. Guy apparently has a very bad temper.
Thing is, IK is no longer a Jet. Looks like it's possible he might be a starting LB'er on the Bills this season. He is now officially the enemy. This isn't about IK, it's about his sparing partner, who is still on the Jets, and came close to being the Jets starting QB. DE's, LB'ers OL, they can all get away with being rough necks, or thugs, nobody really cares, as long as they produce on the field. IMO, Gastineau fell in that catagory. Perhaps Richardson. Can hold my nose and root for them, because they produce.
With a QB it's a lot different. They are the face of the franchise, in most cases the leader of the team. When they command zero respect from the team, and have a history of lack of leadership, selfishness, and a tinge of thug, as smith did at WV. Add on top of that the fact that he has played very badly in the NFL, and team mates have gone out of their way to NOT support him, as they did in Buffalo last year, and again with the mini hold outs at OTA's, it's time to cut bait with the guy. Which I think Bowles would love to do, but circumstances won't allow it at this point.
Personally I'll be much happier being a Jets fan after he is gone. That probably won't be until next season unless Petty picks it up big time.
As far as throwing around the term "haters" to people who disagree with a stance is silly. I don't hate smith, I just hate the fact that he is a NY Jet, and wish that fact would change. If like IK he was on another team, I wouldn't care one way or another about him
