If they draft Mariota that would be great but drafting a QB in the first round at 6 especially, I would expect to be ready to start from draft day and beat out both Fitz and Geno this year. Maybe I'm wrong but I just don't think he can do that. So if he can't then he is a developmental QB like Geno was coming out. As Geno should have sat his rookie year but didn't have that luxury and was forced out there with a garbage team and even worse coaching and management. With that said, this isn't the 60's through the 80's where first round QBs were expected to ride the bench for awhile and its ok. This is a time of first rounders being expected to be ready to go and hold their own and if Mariota cant do that, its a risk pick to me. You never know when he will be ready than.
Yeah your right, we wont get him at 6. We will have to trade up to get him which will make it even worse. If he aint ready go after we traded up to get his ass, I would be pissed but I guess thats just me.We aren't getting Mariota at 6

You are right, it means little or nothing, but it would be absolutely great to finally climb out of the QB abyss we have been in for decades if you don't count Vinny great 98 season and Favres 3/4 of a season in 2008 before he tore that bicep or pec or whichever muscle it was.
Two small temporary ascensions only to fall back into a bottomless pit
Do you really think Mariota will do that? He may but he has to sit a year to learn the ropes. I don't want to repeat he mistakes of Geno's development.

My serious opinion is this, EliasDo you really think Mariota will do that? He may but he has to sit a year to learn the ropes. I don't want to repeat he mistakes of Geno's development.
My serious opinion is this, Elias
There is no comparison between the two. Marcus Mariota has shown at Oregon that he has the consummate skills to be a potentially elite NFL QB. While Mariota led his team to the National Championship game, defeating Winston and FSU in the process, Smith was an embarrassment of major proportion in the thirteenth rate Pinstripe bowl.
I think he and Winston will go.1 and 2 in this draft, making this discussion moot but if Mariota is available at 6, I would do cartwheels because the Jets would finally have a franchise QB.
Ryan Fitzpatrick gives us the chance to let the kid learn and develop for a short time too while improving the play at QB while he holds the fort
This would be a dream pick for this team and might even let us finally forget all our QB stumbles and bumbles since passing on Dan Marino in 1983

In that game it was the run defense fault. He was? You mean the game he played in the snow and completed 68% for 2 TDs and 0 INTs? That game?
Fans often let their bias get in the way of the facts. He was far superior to Nassib in every way in that game and it was WVU's run defense, with over 370 rushing yards given up, that "was an embarrassment of major proportion."
but again, dont let the facts get in the way of a good "I hate Geno" rant...
In that game it was the run defense fault.
For two seasons of failure it was the OCS fault, the no weapons fault, the people who invented time zones fault, the offensive lines fault.
It's always everybody but poor Geno's fault.
Face the facts, statz 55.
NOT AN NFL QB AND NEVER WILL BE ONE.
Thank God we at least have Fitzpatrick to take over and end our long nightmare of QB ineptitude
