Mehta: Geno, Not Mariota, is The Jets Better QB Option

The red flag for me on Geno was was the fiasco when he was ejected from the plane. Everyone wanted to brush it off as not his fault and he was the "victim". How many of us fly every week for work and have never have any issues like that, or have even seen it happen?

I'm not giving up on him yet, though. He has talent and showed some signs of maturation. But no way in hell do I bet the future of the franchise on him the way Idzik was willing to do last year.

doesn't winston have a lot more red flags than geno?

The one he doesn't have is the stinking as a quarterback red flag

Based on what, what he did in college? For Geno that flag may be up, but for Winston, it's a question mark. I wouldn't say he "balled out" vs Oregon, and his last home game vs Florida (12 for 24 2 TDs and 4 INTs) didn't exactly "wow" anyone. But I guess some have bought into the McShay fortune he's the second coming of Luck...

Winston and Mariota are just the best QB's in a sea of garbage. That doesn't make them franchise QB's or worth our #6 pick.

I thought Bruce Arians made an interesting comment the other day regarding the spread offense QB's so common today. He said (paraphrasing) "those guys aren't playing the QB position". Mayock referred to the jump from the spread offense to an NFL style offense as "going from kindergarten to college". So is it any surprise Kaepernick is struggling after some initial success? Is it any wonder Geno slipped into the 2nd round? Is it any surprise people are saying Mariota will need some time adjusting to a pro style offense?

These QB's cannot be thrown in there and expected to set the world on fire right away. Some teams have the wrong approach in bringing these guys along. And then the bust label comes out as a result.
