Needed a game like that tonight. The quick start was huge and how does Colon do it. That is a great 3 or 4 start run for Bart.

Still 5 up on Wash.

Lucas Duda to begin minor league rehab assignment Saturday

Lucas Duda wasn’t able to return from to return from the disabled list when he was first eligible as the Mets originally hoped, but Matt Ehalt of the Bergen Record reports that he’s set to begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Double-A Binghamton.

Duda has been sidelined since August 21 with a thoracic herniation in his back. Mets assistant general manager John Ricco said Friday that it’s unlikely he’ll be ready when the team begins their big showdown against the Nationals on Monday, but he could be activated at some point later on in the series. Michael Cuddyer is also sidelined right now due to wrist tendinitis, so the Mets are relying on Kelly Johnson at first base.

Duda, 29, is batting .247/.346/.472 with 21 home runs and 56 RBI over 113 games this season.

My confidence is waning. Clippard just gave up a game tying dinger. We need to beat those damn Gnats head to head.

Lead is going to be down to 4 -- cushion we had built up with a great August is quickly disappearing. Going to have to win 2 of 3 against Nats to re-establish the lead. Niese vs Scherzer tomorrow. Scherzer has not been dominant in the last month, but Niese has been awful.

This will be a dogfight all September.

Text of Harvey's comments:

You’ve heard about the 180-185 innings cap. That seems to be the number that will allow me to pitch into the postseason. Regardless of those numbers, I hope everyone knows: I have always wanted to play. I have always wanted to pitch every single chance I get.

Especially in the playoffs.

Right now we’re hunkered down in a fight to make the postseason. All of our efforts are focused on that task. As a team, we understand that there’s still a lot of baseball left to play. The chance to make a run in the playoffs will require our full dedication, energy and passion. This is an incredibly exciting time to be part of the Mets.

As an athlete, when your surgeon explains to you the risks of exceeding a certain number of innings, it can be alarming. You listen. I love to play baseball and I love winning even more. I would not give that up for anything. I also know I want to be able to play and win for a long time. But there has never been a doubt in my mind: I will pitch in the playoffs. I will be healthy, active and ready to go.

I am communicating with my agent, my doctor, Sandy and the entire Mets organization. I can assure everyone that we’re all on the same page.

Together, we are coming up with a plan to reach an innings limit during the season. It will be a compromise between the doctors and the Mets organization to get me, and the team, to where we need to be for our postseason run.

I understand the risks. I am also fully aware of the opportunity the Mets have this postseason. Winning the division and getting to the playoffs is our goal.

Once we are there, I will be there.

3 straight games where Niese has given up a 5 run inning. I have gotten a really bad feeling about this team over the past week.

Can someone talk me off the ledge?

We managed to win that Scherzer - Niese matchup, which gets me off the ledge. At least until tomorrow night.

Huge win and a great outing by the bullpen. Man, those guys run hot & cold.

Bryce Harper when asked about the atmosphere of the crowd at #Nats Park: "I mean, they left in the seventh. That's pretty brutal."

Ouch!! Callin' out the fans... as he should have. I was watching the game and couldn't believe how empty the field level boxes were. You wouldn't get that at Citi after all these years of suffering!
