In my opinion. it's time to send a message to the malingerers
1. Remove Wright as Captain and advise him that if he is not back by July 4,.he will be designated for assignment
2. Same for Murphy if he is not back by Friday
3. Same for Montero. Mejia D'arnaud and any others enjoying an extended paid vacation
Advise Collins that it's time for Mr Hard Ass and if he can't be that guy, he'll be fired at the all star break
If I am going to send a message, its going to be directed at Terry Collins.
This is a young team, yet what young position players have developed under TC. Poor fundamentals, bad defense, terrible at bats, guys playing out of position, it falls on management. Last night, he puts Ruben Tejada at 3rd base and he clearly does not know what to do on the bunt play in the 6th - Niese wants to make the play at 3rd but Tejada is standing like a statue 10 feet off the base. Allows the tying run to reach 3rd.
Another run scoring on the error in the 7th. The play a couple of days ago when nobody covered 2nd on a steal and d'Arnaud's throw goes into center field.
The fundamentals on this team are awful. Offensively, it is a string of poor at bats, one after the other. Pitchers do not get us out, we get ourselves out. Its not like we are going up against Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer every night. Matt Wisler, Mike Fiers, Julio Teheran, Chris Heston -- we have made all these guys look like Cy Young contenders.
Collins has not managed a team to a winning record in the 21st century. Make the move on Collins now before the season is completely lost and (unless they turn it around in the 2nd half), Alderson needs to follow Collins out the door. 6 straight losing season is enough.
