Yeah their idiot front office is batting 1000. First give Bradford way too much (only to draft his replacement immediately afterwards), and now the freakn Cox deal!!

I've been thinking this too. They've really screwed us this offseason.

I don't see Mo being part of our long season plans. The right answer would've been for Idzik to get it done. Hindsight is 20/20 and all that.

I'd rather sign Mo and let Sheldon go, I don't care if he's projected to have a higher ceiling... Besides I think we really have a keeper in Leonard Williams, though admittedly it's too soon to get crazy about him.

I am surprised this was not done last year, when there was a lot of flexibility under the cap to structure an extension. I understand delaying it some, but it has put the team in a very difficult position.

Now, the best they would get for him in a compensatory pick would be a third. Is he worth more on the open market? You have to consider dealing him, if you think he's worth more than a third.

My guess is the franchise has decided it's best to move forward with Sheldon and Leonard.

Sure hope they can keep Sheldon and Williams. They better not low ball Sheldon. He's going to command an arm and a leg.

Not exactly... as of now he is on the cap this year already foor 15.7 Million.... Next year the Jets, again as of now, have 21 Million in cap space and in 2018 the jets have over 100 million in cap space... So the organization has the means for a big contract if they wanted to sign him to a deal like Cox.... just need to be a little creative with guaranteed money, if the Organization wants him
Interesting lou, thanks for the explanation.

Per NY Post - He feels like the team does not want him back.

I honestly have to agree with him. I'm not exactly liking how Mac has handled free agency when it comes to signing back his own players. He states he wants them back and praises them in the media but the parties seem far apart.

That's because mo has always wanted to be the highest paid defensive player in football. He's not worth it. Compared to what he wants, we can franchise him this year and next, and still pay him less than that. Worst case scenario we have him until he's 29. We can still sign him at that point if we think he's worth it. He's in his prime now and I think he's worth 15-16 a year.

How is mac supposed to sign him if he wants to be the highest paid and won't negotiate?

I don't get the impression that he really wants to be here. If he did, he would find a way to work out a deal. It's not that he doesn't want to be here, per se, just that staying isn't important to him. I do hope they figure something out, though.

The problem is, when other d-linemen around the league like Fletcher Cox are getting 6@103 with 63 guaranteed, it doesn't help the Jets stance. And neither does the fact that Mo had a pretty good year last season, and has been a steady player over his career. (And a good soldier, compared to Richardson, but that's another thread).

I don't blame Wilkerson at all. He wants to get paid, and deserves to get paid big. But it looks like Macc wants to keep Richardson and hope Williams pans out.

Mac screwed the pooch this offseason. His inability to trade Mo is going to kill ius. Trading Mo would have netted another great young player, probably the OL Mac knew he needed and didn't get.

You have to have a team that wants to trade. Not one team wanted to give up a high pick and take his next contract.

That's true but it also depends on what Mac was asking for in return. I would have taken a 2nd and 4th. If I were the Jags or Raiders I would have jumped at getting Mo to fit in with their defenses. And I would have paid him given what he could have done for their teams. They both had the cap space and the picks. Too bad.

True, but we are not privy to what Macc was asking and/or what teams were willing to give up. plus pay a monster contract for a player coming off of an injury.
Now,if Mo has another great/monster year, i believe the Jets will be able to franchise him again. They should have the cap space and then the Jets can, again, try and trade him for the best offer.

That's what you claim, but do you have any concrete knowledge or an article to back up such a claim? What about Mac accepting a 2nd rounder for Mac? I know that's not what the Jets figure he's worth, but getting something for Mo is better than getting nothing, especially when you consider the Jets have so many needs.

I think I have exactly the same knowledge as you do. None of us know why he wasn't traded.
