Free Agency firstDo we pull the trigger on the pass rusher?!?
| Pick | Player | Team | Position | Basic | Playtime | 1 Pro Bowl | >1 Pro Bowl |
|---|
| 3 | Quinnen Williams | Jets | IDL (DE) | $10,281,000 | $11,507,000 | $16,623,000 | $20,186,000 |
they already committed to him, reason why he is taking his chance of getting more money...Well considering Quinnen Williams wasn't a Joe Douglas draft pick? Good luck with that.
I love QW but not that much not for that type of $$$ I don't.
Plenty of day 3 prospect will be available at 43 DE who we can develop in the meantime. If Q doesn’t pickup his game that big contract he’s expecting might come from another team .signing a unrestricted free agent coming off his rookie deal, is one move...
signing a tendered 4th or 5th year restricted free agent that does not cost us a draft pick is another option...
trading for potential is also on the table...
or
sign an affordable stop gap player while drafting a day 3 project is another way to go...
expect the Jets to exhaust all efforts but we did just sign Bradlee Anae who could be that guy...
Hamilcar Rashed Jr. has upside...
he could of renegotiated a new contract this season off season...Plenty of day 3 prospect will be available at 43 DE who we can develop in the meantime. If Q doesn’t pickup his game that big contract he’s expecting might come from another team .
he won't re-sign they didn't pick up his 5th year team option but re-signed him to $2.8 M on his fifth year guarantee he is gone...Barnett provided he doesn't re-sign with eagles. I like the idea of using #4 on OL (Ikem) and grabbing a developmental edge later.
| LE John Franklin Myers | ? | DT Quinnen Williams | RE Derek Barnett |
Lawson was listed to be RE but he is better suited on the left side because of this style defense...Gotta trust Saleh/Ulbrich on this one. If we're seeing it, I'd suspect they do as well. Perhaps LE was only because the Lawson absence was so glaring that they felt they had to leave him there, at least last year.
| LE Arden Key/Carl Granderson | DT Quinnen Williams | DT John Franklin Myers | RE Derek Barnett |
| LE Bryce Huff | DT Jonathan Marshall | DT Draft Pick | RE Tim Ward |
| LE Carl Lawson (IR) | RE Draft Pick |
The main issue would be who will they draft or sign to play as the other interior defensive lineman?
LE John Franklin Myers ? DT Quinnen Williams RE Derek Barnett
This would be a better starting lineup then last year, finding that comparable tandem for Q inside the key to make this d line run better...
Perrion Winfrey or Phidarian Mathis make sense on day 2... Why JFM is not kicked inside is head scratching as he is definitely a better interior rusher than on the EDGE...
Both Perrion Winfrey & Phidarian Mathis would be that fit, both have the size and length while capable run defenders to come in a rotate with JFM at DT... In case of injury to one of the two starters they have the makeup to spot start or rotate in with either spot while Marshall was a long shot he has shown flashes of contribution ability this past season should take the next step next year...draft at DT;
everyone assumes Carl Lawson is going to be back next season, to me at the soonest he be back mid seasonJFM should be moved back inside, beside Q.
He is more productive as a DT than as a DE.
Find someone in FA or draft to put opposite of Lawson
Why the grim prognosis? Avg recovery time is 9 to 12 months from injury to returning to play. All reports were that he was making good progress and ahead of schedule.everyone assumes Carl Lawson is going to be back next season, to me at the soonest he be back mid season
so FA signing to go along with Anae, Huff, Ward and possibly Rashed Jr. at both DE spots could also draft a day 3 developmental player/prospect...
get to full strength from a reoccurring injury is 18 months to get close to full strength, if this was his first then okay 10 months but it is not... he comes back too soon he risks re-injuring it...Why the grim prognosis? Avg recovery time is 9 to 12 months from injury to returning to play. All reports were that he was making good progress and ahead of schedule.
