On the one hand I hate drafting to a position of lesser need with so many real holes to fill, especially having recently spent a 1 on Calvin Pryor.
I also realize that unless you draft a HOF caliber Safety, an Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu type of difference maker, a Safety is a bad pick in the TOP 10
So I'm not gonna lie, I don't love the pick and its not the pick I would have made. I would have taken OJ Howard, but I can't complain about it after Howard slid all the way to 19. Obviously I overvalued the player, otherwise there's no way in hell he slides that far, so I do take some solace in that.
That said, I wish Mac had the balls to pull the trigger on Mahomes instead of Adams, but that would have taken gigantic balls, so I can't kill him over that either, nor can I go crazy that he didn't take Hooker and Lattimore who both slid out of the TOP 10 as well, as did Jonathan Allen.
In retrospect the only real alternatives were probably Mike Williams or Christian McCaffery, and I would have been happy with either guy, but I don't think any of us would argue that either one carried a higher grade than Adams. Adams was a consensus TOP 3 player in this draft and that evaluation was close to universal.
So in the end its similar to Williams, there's no doubt that Adams was the highest rated player on the board when the Jets went on the clock, and a player nobody anticipated would slide to the Jets, INCLUDING THE JETS, so while its not a sexy pick, Safety never is, and while there is a very high standard for this player to meet for him to justify this selection, a lot of people think he can be that kind of Impact Safety.
