The Jets have requested to interview Joe Douglas and Champ Kelly for the GM position per Ian Rapoport.

When teams start adding candidates this late in the process it can only mean one of two things, and both are scary:

1. There was no real plan in place to hire Mac's successor on the day he was fired, which is stunningly incompetent.

2. There was a plan in place but it blew up in their face like Anthony Barr, you thought you had your man and he had a last minute change of heart.

IMO those are the only real reasons to expand the search for a new GM like the Jets have done here.

If this is the case then I'm going with option two. Are they even interviewing Peyton Manning??? Has that happened yet id is it happening at all?

Would anyone else here not mind going after Scott Pioli?

Since he quit the Falcons I thought for sure he'd be a top candidate ?

WTF are the Jets doing ?

Has he been linked to the job at all?

Yeah. You would have to give him a call if you were the Jets. I'm amazed and confused if they dont

Well, he does have experience working with the Jets, 1997 to 2000. Maybe that's why they haven't called him. I don't remember in what capacity he worked here or why he left but there is history. Maybe one of you guys has that information. I don't. I'm also curious why he left the Falcons to pursue other opportunities. What opportunities ?

Supposedly Manning has no interest in working in that capacity for any team.

He was Director of Pro Personnel. Good at evaluating across the league. It was one of the reasons Belichick took him to Foxboro to be the head of Player Personnel, with increased responsibilities.

I don't want any Patriots or former Patriots to come in and save us.

I'd rather lose without them than win with them.

For example, if Bill Belichick offered to coach the Jets, I would email him the following response:

I would agree, except that he was here before he became a cheatah. He is Parcells son in law and a part of what Parcells meant to have built for us. If Belichick didn't shaft us and take everyone with him, Pioli might still be here with Belichick and we would be the cheetahsis

I'm not a fan of us having been the cheetahs, but it does come with quite the collection of rings

I'm sure there is mutual interest. It might just be being kept under the radar.

I don't know why he's want to come here but it is strange that he up and left Atlanta with no where to go at the same time that Gase fired our GM

He has previous ties to the Jets from the late 90s and he's a local New Yorker. He's from Washingtonville.

Ahhh... So maybe he does want to come here if he's from NY. Although things are a little different from last time he was here and Parcells was in charge

If he did come here maybe Parcells would advise him a little as any good father in law would do. I can't think of too many better things then that for this team

although Parcells is damn near as old as Brady so he may not have the energy anymore

Weird thing is, of the three guys heading the search, I played against one of them in both high school and college. Hymie Elhai is a Senior VP with the Jets. I played against him in high school, and again in college.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated said in an article just a few hours ago that he believes Douglas, even though he hasn't yet accepted his interview request, ( Fitterer and Kelly have ), remains the favorite to land the GM job. He also believes there is a good chance that Kelly will also be brought on board to work under Douglas along with some of Douglas' current team. It's certainly getting interesting reading about this lately.
