Come on Darnold!! Don't be Revis. Come on Jets!! Don't be...well...the Jets!!
The CBA was designed to prevent this. But it seems both sides have made offset language the new negotiating point.

Darnold wants to get to camp...
Darnold's agent is holding up the process..
Jets Front Office trying to protect the team a bit on guaranteed dollars...
The worst part is, Sexton represents two other first round QBs who are already in camp, one picked above Darnold (Mayfield) and one below him (Allen). Both were in camp, on time, and had no problem accepting the teams' offsets and guarantees.
Yet Sexton feels the need to hurt Sam and the Jets by making his grand stand on offsets and guaranteed money here.
Cleveland and Buffalo markets are smaller and aren't likely to try n save just n case those aren't the guys long term...
I get why the Jets Front Office is trying to protect themselves a bit, because there is that slight chance that Darnold may NOT be the guy... And to give him nearly a full guaranteed contract could hinder the Jets down the road... I think it is more about the offsets, for the team to recoup some guarantees and Sexton doesn't want to do that in a big market team especially the Jets whom have a history of poor decisions at this position, maybe Sexton also sees Darnold as a what if prospect and wants to make sure the money is there no matter what...
I dunno, I don't care the longer Darnold is not in camp the better chance for Bridgewater to have to unseat McCown as the starter...
To me, offsets protect a team from a player double-dipping if he underperforms for that team.
problem with Darnold is two things:
Delivery -- he holds the ball by his waist, which it is a long delivery.. if he can shorten it by holding the ball higher would be a start...
Ball Security -- because of his low handle on delivery causes chances of fumbles... But when he runs with the ball he holds onto it loosely which he loses the ball often...
if Darnold sews up these two areas he will be the starter day one as long as he grasps the concept of the playbook... understanding how to execute each play or run the hot route will come with game experience and building tape to look back on with both McCown and Bates...
I am guessing he is doing well in camp. If he wasn't, there would be hourly articles on ESPN, PFT, and in the local tabloids about him being a bust. Their silence suggests he's doing well.

Sack, You and I have gone to battle with QB threads in the past and your current post NAILS it on what is going on with our young gun signal caller ! The endless articles on Tebow, Sanchez and Geno Smith. The media thrived on it. Yet as far as Darnold, it has made a once hated columnist in Manish Mehta likeable to read.
I actually believe management hit it right. Of course we have to wait and see, but watching success stories from embattled franchises hit on QBs to change their fortunes has made us all a bit jealous in waiting. Though if this is the guy, the procrastination was well worth it.
He is going to be a good one. Finally have a franchise QB if the Jets don't screw it up.
I have little doubt that Darnold will be a good NFL QB, and will be here a long time. The only question is how close he is to being the starter. If he plays well in the preseason, just go with him. He’ll make some rookie mistakes, but he’ll be that much closer to having the necessary experience to succeed.
I really hope so. The franchise is due for one of their QB moves to finally pan out.
Agreed.
It's time the Jets of the AFC East has a QB that the other teams fear. Lived through the Marino years, the Jim Kelly years and the Brady years.
It would be extremely nice to finally have a franchise QB that other teams fans have to live through.
Please let this kid pan out, he is off to a very good start.
so, we got a talented kid who just turned 21, who already takes his craft very seriously..
