Gotta Pick one, SargeTodd Gurley, Andrus Peat......um......Arik Armstead
Yes, you have listed all of the Heisman QB's drafted in the first round since 2007. Tebow and Manziel I think are clearly complete busts. I would include Bradford and RGIII in the bust category as well, although they aren't quite dead yet. Only Newton has a chance of not being a bust, I think, but he has been in the league only 4 years. Made the playoffs twice, and has a playoff record of 1-2. Not definitely bad, but potentially bad. Let's talk about Newton in about 2 years. I'm sure all of these guys were drafted in the first round with the expectation they would become franchise QB's. So far, none of them has achieved it, in my judgment.
Now, let's think of this from a different angle. Think about all the great QB's over the last several decades. Guys like Montana, Brady, Marino, Rodgers, Favre, Elway, etc, etc. Not a Heisman among them. And then excellent QB's who may not be great, but are clear franchise QB's, like Phil Simms, Philip Rivers, Drew Brees, Joe Flacco, etc, etc. Again, not a Heisman among them.
Coincidence? I don't think so.
damaged goods...no thanks.
All positions are the table at #6 , but the Jets WILL NOT draft a player at the following 3 positions after pick number 6
1 - Wide Receiver - We could take Cooper or White, but we have very good depth at WR with 4 or 5 very solid potential contributors (Evans, Owusu, Enunuwa, etc) and I doubt we take a WR if we pass on one at #6
2 - Offensive Line - Scherff is a possibility at 6, maybe Peat, but we have 5 + potentially good backup linemen already on the roster - Aboushi, Winters, Freeman, Dozier, Johnson, etc. A backup OL is not a need
3 - Cornerback - I doubt we take a CB at 6 or any other round
We WILL draft these positions in rounds 2-7 depending what we do at 6
S, ILB, OLB, RB
possible drafts positions are
QB, TE
I believe Maccagnan has shown so that he is totally rebuilding this team in his and Bowles image so I do no think any position is off limits in any round.
In all fairness, if Bradford wasn't an egg back there, he might have had a real shot to be a great QB. I think Newton still has a legit chance. It's not a lot, but that's what I got.
Not to speak for RI, but I'd agree if he's saying winning the Heisman can lead to an overvaluation of a player, which in turn leads to less than expected results more often than not.
However, I do not agree that the trophy has some "Brady Bunch totem curse" that dooms all winners to future bustdom . . .
JMHO I think all this Heisman talk is silly and after this year one or both of the top QBs will put an end to it. Time will tell.
