How do you think Arizona felt taking Honey Badger on. From up for the Heisman to out of college football in a blink of an eye. That was a big risk Bowles took on, especially since he's hands on with his secondary. And it worked out (other than he is Bowles' daughter's baby daddy).
Look I'm not saying don't do it, but don't kid yourself, not all of these stories have happy endings, and HB has to keep it up because he'll be tested regularly for the rest of his NFL career, and so will these guys, thats the downside of getting popped before you even enter the league.

There's no way around it for these guys, there's no ducking and dodging, its either quit smoking weed, PERIOD, or flush their careers down the toilet ... and these are two guys who just cost themselves millions of dollars because they couldn't stop smoking weed in the months leading up to the draft ... HB didn't do that, he didn't get popped while the draft process was going on, by that time he was already working to turn his life around.

From Missouri St. Highway Patrol: Shane Ray issued a warning for speeding, a lane violation & citation for 35 grams of pot (misdemeanor)

Ray Ray how can you be so stupid. Million dollar dube!!!!

It's now almost assured either White, Beasley or Cooper. With Dupree and the offensive lineman du jour as an alternate.

Should we now expect the other pass rushers Beasley and Fowler to get arrested for something.

I don't trust any of the guys that smoke weed. They aren't smart enough to stop so I'm not wasting any picks in these idiots!!

Some people think, oh its only weed, no big deal, like their opinion of weed matters. Who cares what you think about weed, whats important is what the NFL thinks, and just look at Josh Gordon and Justin Blackman to see what the NFL thinks ... and you better believe the 32 clubs are looking at those two nitwits.

Exactly right. This always turns into a debate about pot. Legalization isn't the point. Ray made a fatal mistake. It's going to cost him big time. It's totally inexcusable driving around with that much tree in your possession.

Exactly right, right back at you!

I love when guys start talking about pot legalization when these incidents occur, as if that has anything to do with the price of tea in china. Obviously its immoral that these kids would have been better off if they were arrested for felony assault in terms of the risk to their careers, but its true, a felony assault may have resulted in a four game suspension, but then your slate is clean and there is no monitoring your behavior. These kids, on the other hand, just put a lifelong bullseye on their chests. Because they are entering the league having violated the substance abuse policy, they will now be tested out the wazoo for the remainder of their NFL careers, which won't be very long if they can't put down the weed.

Thats the only thing that matters here, everything else is a distraction.

Just to be clear, nobody in this forum used this as an opportunity to grandstand for pot legalization, so its refreshing to see that the people in this forum GET IT, but inevitably when one of these kids gets popped for weed, someone talks about how weed is a harmless vice and it shouldn't even be illegal, which has absolutely nothing to do with why these guys now come with a considerable risk.

Do I think it should be legal? Yes. Is it legal where he was? Apparently not.

How can anyone have such a lack of judgment as to violate that law, needlessly, so close to fulfulling a lifelong goal of being drafted high (no pun intended) in the NFL draft? I mean, seriously. If I was a week away, and was a projected first rounder, I'd probably wrap myself in bubble wrap for the week.

Well, I'm willing to bet Jets will take 1 of 5 players

WR Kevin White
WR Amari Cooper
DE/LB Bud DuPree
LB Vic Beasley
OL Brandon Scherff

Ray and Gregory have issues
Gurley is an interesting pick, but injury and position are problematic
OTs Collins and Peat might be a bit lower rated than 6
Waynes is not a postion of need at CB
Danny Shelton is not a position of need at DT

Ill take Collins in that mix over Beasely

Dont get me started either....I think legalization of POT HAS alot to do with states not wanting to deal with all petty crimes with it and it is better to sweep it under the legal rug..... POT is the gateway drug...after that doesnt thrill or turn you on..all bets are off with heroine, oxy, etc..

END OF SERMON

and yes..I drink alcohol at times..but that never leads to anything bigger...never has never will...and driving drunk sucks..andI did it when I was young but not now..I have a plan

I agree, I'm okay with decriminalizing weed, but I'm not down with legalization.

But really thats besides the point. Wherever one stands on this issue, the only thing that matters is where the NFL stands.

I dont think the kid should be condemned..but I dont want him as our first round pick at the least..too much money and if you are the "good guy" and give him a chance to be noble or liberal..and he messes up...who is left holding the bag..?? the GM MACCG that made the decision..so you know what..avoid that problem from get go..if someone else gets him and all is well so be it....better this way

I couldn't care less about all the gateway talk. This is about him violating the law less than 100 hours before the draft.

How could anyone be that stupid?

I can't even begin to comprehend it.

ESPN Reports: Jets to Pass on Mariota, even at #6

ESPN Reports: Jets to Pass on Mariota, even at #6

Looks like Gailey doesn't sign-off on Mariota...

Marcus Mariota - QB - Player
According to ESPN New York's Rich Cimini, the "latest buzz in league circles" is the Jets would pass on Marcus Mariota if he lasted until the No. 6 pick.
The Jets seem all set to go with Geno Smith behind Chan Gailey favorite Ryan Fitzpatrick. Cimini concedes "chances are, it won't matter" that the Jets would pass on Mariota because he's likely to be taken with the No. 2 overall pick.

I would also assume he will be canceling his reservation for the flight to Chicago!

Can you imagine the media coverage on that kid if he decided to attend?

Camera in his face as he slides out of the first and maybe even into the 3rd!

Kiper, Chris Mortenson and McShay all commenting as every team passes him by.

I can't even begin to comprehend it.
