Since Mike Maccagnan has been hired as GM, he has brought in the following offensive linemen: Kelvum Beachum, James Carpenter, Jonathan Harrison, Brandon Shell, Kelechi Osemele, and Spencer Long. You stated he’s only “modestly addressed” the o-line. That’s six o-line acquisitions via the draft, trade, and FA.
Now you can argue with the results, especially the run blocking last year. But Beachum was the best available LT at the time Macc signed him, Carpenter was also a top rated Guard when we got him, and the Osemele trade was vintage theft by Macc. (Swapping 5th and 6th rounders? Really, for a 29 year old, 2X pro bowler?)
This isn’t to suggest I’m happy with the current line. Still think an upgrade at Center is needed, and Beachum’s eventual replacement needs to be here by next season. But previous talk of Macc’s “ignoring the o-line” isn’t factual. He’s been here since 2015 and addressed a lot of other areas with a higher priority, but he hasn’t ignored the o-line.
C'mon Brick, Carpenter was the only actual signing that was good. Beachum was a band-aid till we found a LT and that has been put on hold.. Carpenter had 2 good years then has tailed off. Harrison is crap and you can sugar coat it anyway you want, he still is crap. Long is like winters, always hurt and less effective. Shell is still a question mark and we will see what happens with him this year. I don't know where or how you think Osemele was vintage theft by Macc. He's 29, 10+ million dollar contract. IMO the Raiders fleeced the Jets. You talk as if his 2 Pro Bowl years will automatically turn him into an all-world OG. Those Pro-bowl years are long gone as is the effectiveness of Osemele. Yes, the Jets have modestly addressed the OL. When Darnold gets hurt is when you will know how good our line is.
