I hated seeing IK go, but it seemed these two would be battling for playing time so it's nice to see Reilly stepping up . . .

I agree 100%. IK is going to be a good edge rusher, Reilly is going to be a good football player. I didn't have IK making the team. IK and Reilly would have been fighting for one spot. Reilly wins

Wilkerson said he had a slight setback last week with his hamstring. Assured everyone he'll be fine.

Marshall isn't worried about getting in a rhythm with Fitz. "We've got time for that"

Marshall might have been a little bit more along that road if he had taken a few reps with somebody else besides his room mate Geno

Bowles should be carefull. Harrison agent will use that statement come contract talks. Just like Rex and Revis.

100% agrees. Also nice to see some youth and depth at the position. I think Mauldin is going to be an animal.

The guy barreling down on him was on his blindside...they had a double blitz on Brick's side, he picked up the inside blitzer and let the outside blitzer free...Fitz never saw him coming so it didnt impact the play.
2 things. 1st QBs don't always have to see a blitz coming. They have sixth sense and they just feel the pressure so we don't know if Fitz was effected or not. Secondly I will agree the pass could have been there sooner with more zip but to me the bottom line is the pass was catch able and it was not.

Ummm, what's he supposed to say? He can't throw outside so CBs on the outside will always line up on the inside of WRs, taking away slants (the staple of the spread) and comebacks, and use the sideline as an extra defender since he can't throw to the sideline? While Revis knows that's what the offense is in for, that and safeties playing 15-20 yards deep...Revis as a team leader has to stay positive...just like he said we were playing w/o a QB his first stint with the jets; he knew it back then too, but obviously he's going to stay positive on Sanchez till he didn't have to be...same applies here.

Nick, I agree on all points. My point isn't if he should have caught it, my point is easy plays will be slightly harder, for the receiver, then they should be at times due to lack of zip...that play to Cumberland was an example. The DB was a hair late on a play he was wide open on a split second earlier.

you and I own different tv's I guess; he saw him coming, and he definitely felt him coming.
On a different note, I went for the NFL game pass and I think it will work for me as I am a cord cutter. $100.00 isn't that bad for me as I am in upstate NY and they tend to forget about the JETS if they start stinking. That combined with the lack of ESPN and Thursday and Sunday night non-access at times. It is pretty cool to go back and pick out each play. Of course all the other games is nice too.

I went to practice today and noticed Fitz has trouble with medium out routes. He doesn't have the arm that Petty has; however, anything 15 yards or so he is very good at. Maybe by the time the season starts his arm strength will improve but right now he can't make all the throws.
Petty is the real deal and should be ready next year IMO.

Do we have any reason to think he's still affected by his leg? That there may be more strength in the throw a month from now, or this is all we're gonna get?

Yeah I would think that rehabbing the leg affected his ability to throw with zip. When Fitz throws he needs his follow through to get the ball to the receiver. He knows what he is doing and makes the plays; however, Petty seems to be more with arm and wrist and it comes out much quicker with a lot of zip.

My guess is that Fitz will be very good but I'm thinking Pennington when I see him throw; Petty is more of a Mathew Stafford type without experience. Both players are very poised IMO. By the time the season starts Fitz will move the ball with ease IMO. Ivory is a beast and seems to get 5 yards with every touch. Brandon is a huge target and catches everything. Decker is very hard to cover and runs a wicked route. Not as big a target but always open. They command attention which leaves other WRs open. Our Offense will be very good this year once we drop the vanilla stuff.

The Defense is hard to predict without Mo Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson on the field. The Rookie Williams has not impressed so far.

Its all we're gonna get.

He's basically a poor mans, post shoulder surgery Chad Pennington.

His team-mates can talk about how smart he is and how mature he is till their blue in the face, but when the real bullets start flying you need a QB who can zip it in there with some velocity, especially in the Meadowlands when it turns cold and windy, and the same is true of Buffalo and New England. This is not a good situation we're in here. Fitzpatrick would have been a quality veteran backup, but as a starter all of his flaws will be exposed, especially in this stadium and division.

Well he did have some success throwing in Buffalo a few years ago with less talent at WR than the Jets have now. I'm going to hold out hope until Fitz proves me otherwise.

Not disagreeing, but if we're worried about how Fitz will handle bad weather, we're also implying late-season games matter, which means the guy's done a competent job to that point.

If Fitz isn't able to carry us to the promised land, I won't hold it against him. But if he (or anyone else) can get us anywhere close, I'll take my chances rolling the dice . . .

If you recall that year when he emerged out of nowhere in Buffalo, he was really good the first half of the season and that earned him a huge contract extension, which Bills management quickly regretted, because the moment it turned cold and windy in Buffalo his game went in the tank and the Bills folded down the stretch. Why? Because he doesn't have enough arm for those conditions. Ideally he's a QB who plays all of his home games in a dome or a warm weather city and division. There are guys like that and Chad Pennington was one of them, thats why he had a career resurgence down in Miami before he tragically blew out his shoulder again.

Then let him play until November and then bring in Petty. Problem solved.

I'm going to disagree because Fitz seems to be a cool guy under OC Chan Bailey and gets rid of the ball very quickly. He has a slow release because of lack of conditioning but their is no hesitation understanding the play and his throws are very accurate.

Pennington lacked accuracy after the surgery and couldn't make all the throws either.

Time will tell but I like seeing Bryce Petty developing as a backup now. He has a ton of ability and the team may benefit from Geno's injury.
