You may be right. There is a good chance he does not get through waivers.
Indeed.

Just look at the Giants, look no further than the Giants, their Safety depth chart has been decimated by injuries. If their GM (Jerry Reese) doesn't claim Miles, he's not paying attention.

Possible, YES,

Good Chance, I disagree. I think there's a good chance he gets plucked and and very small chance he passes thru waivers. I was agreeing with you Ham. Good chance he does not get through waivers--means he likely gets claimed.

That's a ton of OL for sure, I wonder if several are hurting.
We kept as many OL's (10) as we did DB's (10), and that is ridiculous in the extreme. Thats the first time I've seen something from this regime that exposes their rookie status as HC and GM. This is a rookie move. I'll be shocked if you find another team in the league, even one, that kept double-digit OL's, an OL depth chart as long as their DB depth chart.

Fine, if they wanted Martin thats perfectly fine, I'm even fine with it if they thought Martin was better than Miles, they get paid to make those evaluations and I haven't seen Martin so I'm in no position to disagree, but none of that explains why they had to release Miles to make room for Martin, thats where I TOTALLY DISAGREE with this move. If they had kept Miles we would have five Safeties on the roster, perfectly reasonable. Whats not reasonable is 10 OL's, thats absurd in the extreme, and its not like we have 10 Larry Allen's to protect. The corresponding cut here should have been an OL.

1 of the OL will be cut next week when Aboushi returns. Of course we will still have 10 olineman on the roster. Again their is still a chance that things may change before the weekend (including tomorrow's holiday) is over.

If we know we're cutting an OL next week to make room for Aboushi, why didn't we just cut that same OL today and keep Miles, then decide who to cut next week when Aboushi comes back, or maybe an injury in week one settles that problem for you, you might not have to cut anyone is someone gets hurt, but you might as well have cut the OL you planned on cutting anyway this week.

No matter how we look at this, it makes no sense to keep 10 OL's, and next week might make 11 if we don't cut an OL, and the way we are protecting these OL's, like we have 10 Jim Parker's, I'm not even sure that we won't carry 11.

In all honesty, not to be a wiseguy, they obviously do not feel the same way about Miles as some of us do. Most fans thought both Flynn and Johnson looked very good on Thursday night yet they both were cut.

That site that does football saber-metrics graded Miles as the best Safety in the entire league in this preseason. Not just the best safety on the Jets, but the best safety in the entire league. If Miles didn't deserve a roster spot over ANY of the 10 OL's (none who whom contribute anything on the bench, because OL's don't rotate and they don't play specials), then the preseason means absolutely nothing, watching these games to judge the progress of players is a complete waste of time.

We will see how this plays out. I agree that the Giants backfield is a mess and they could do a lot worse than Miles. But like I previously posted, NFL personnel evaluators often have a different view of things than fans do.

I remember in 2007 how pissed I was when we didn't keep RB Derrick Ward. IMO he was very impressive in the preseason. Unfortunately we cut him, than re-signed him back on to our PS. The Giants, needing help in the backfield signed him off our PS and he ends up helping the Giants win the Super Bowl. I remember my buddies during the Giants Super Bowl run that year kept saying the Jets should have listened to me!

Fanatic, if you recall, I had a similar reaction to Ward at the old site. I pretty much reacted the same way I'm reacting now to Miles, and I felt equally positive that he wouldn't get thru waivers. HE DID, so I was wrong and a lot of people let me know about it, until the Giants plucked him off our PS shortly thereafter and, well, you know the rest. But yes, I shared your pain over Ward, and I have the same BAD FEELING about letting Miles go.

Again, what bothers me most about this is that it was so unnecessary. Its not like Miles got caught in a numbers game and there wasn't much of an alternative. We kept 10 O-LINEMEN, an absurd number of OL's, that equals the amount of DB's we kept, its unimaginable too me, and again, its not like we have 10 Larry Allen's to protect.

Lets just hope history doesn't repeat itself!! BTW, I have tons of confidence in Mac & Bowles. I'm sure they see something good in Ronald Martin.

That site that does football saber

Come on Ham, that's against second and third stringers. To claim Martin, he had to go to active roster. The Jets will likely put Miles on the PS and you may see some movement from both players depending on how Miles plays in practice over the next few weeks. Our primary safeties are set (3). Miles was not going to see allot of action regardless. Let this play out - our front office has done a terrific job so far. let's not judge hastily.

Tex, if you go back and read my posts on this topic, you will see that I've repeatedly stated I have no problem with claiming Martin. I'm not even suggesting Miles is better because I haven't seen Martin, so while I suspect Miles is better, it wouldn't be an educated opinion. So my problem was not with claiming Martin and I understand that means he has to be placed on the active roster. I also understand that there needs to be a corresponding cut. It is my position that cutting Miles to make room for Martin was unnecessary and IMO a mistake. It was unnecessary because we are carrying 10 OL's, a ridiculous number, and thats where the corresponding cut should have happened. Keeping Miles would have meant carrying 5 Safeties, and that is a perfectly reasonable number of Safeties to keep. It also would have meant carrying 11 DB's in total (6 CB's), and that is reasonable as well, because you have Nickels, you have Dimes and all of your DB's should be contributing on Special Teams as well, unlike backup OL's who are essentially inactive in Sunday's if they are not in the starting five, thats why most teams usually carry no more than 8 OL's, and double digit DB's.

Lastly, I wish I shared your confidence that Miles will get thru waivers. I don't, but I hope you're right.
