Hmmm...I wasn't aware of that termination pay clause. That makes cutting Flynn even more curious.

I thought it was curious to. Total guess at what might be going on, With the Smith brothers taking up roster spots, they might be desperately trying to save spots.

Gambling that if Fitz gets hurt, they can have Flynn here in a couple of hours.

Like I said total guess

Not sure if its 4 or 6. I think its 6, at which point you can then release Johnson or Flynn, whoever you brought back.

Geno doesn't qualify for PUP because he got hurt after TC began. He can be put on the re callable IR, in that case it's 8 weeks.

TE Joseph Fauria still subject to waivers so #NYJ would have to win claim, if interested. Period closes tomorrow at Noon ET.

On Babin release: as @RichCimini noted, good sign that Pace and Mauldin are healthy and ready to practice Monday. #NYJ

So there's no PUP during the season, only in training camp?

Okay, in that case its the 8 week IR, which is probably worth it because he was given a recovery time of ten weeks at the max, in the meantime Pety and Johnson or Flynn can hold down the fort as the backups.

Just a general question. If they Jets knew they were going to release both QB's, and I think they did, because both QB'splayed pretty well, why not have given Petty some reps Thursday?

Who knows what the Jets are going to do at QB. I read yesterday they brought in Matt Blanchard for a tryout who was cut by the Pack a few days ago. That tells me they weren't as enamored with either Flynn or Johnson.

I think you can only have one guy on short-term IR. Think it is more likely to be Milliner than Geno, but it cannot be both.

Just got this from the Wikipedia PUP Page, and it sounds like Geno might be eligible after we set the 53, because he wasn't injured in football related activities, he was injured in a locker-room brawl where his jaw was broken by a punch.

Anyway, if we can use this for Geno, it opens a spot to bring back Johnson or Flynn and Geno is eligible to be activated whenever he gets healthy:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physically_unable_to_perform

NON-FOOTBALL INJURY

A similar (to PUP) list, known as the "non-football injury" (NFI) list, is functionally equivalent to PUP, but is used for players who are unable to practice as a result of conditions unrelated to football. For example, New England Patriots tackle Marcus Cannon began his rookie season on the NFI list as he recovered from chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Also, David Quessenberry of the Houston Texans was put on the NFI list in mid-June, 2014 after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at the age of 23.

The NFI designation, despite its name, also covers injuries sustained during football played outside the NFL, including college football. Willis McGahee spent his entire rookie season on the Buffalo Bills' NFI list due to the major knee injury he sustained in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl.

Out of training camp you can only have one, not during the regular season after your roster is set?

Anyway, that NON FOOTBALL INJURY thing (above) sounds applicable for Geno.

So, I guess if you want to get around the rules and put a player onto the PUP list, all you have to do is have a teammate punch him in the chops. :)

They already knew he was going to be the only active backup on the roster for week one and didn't want to risk injury.

Both Flynn and Johnson gone..for now..also good sign Geno isn't far off...go ahead haters start hating

I would prefer not to have 4 QBs on the active roster. I would prefer to keep a player that can contribute. We have good depth. Some good players are going to have to be cut.

I am pretty sure you can only ust S-T IR designation for one player per season. Don't know much about NFL, but my guess is Geno will be on active roster until he is ready to go. Whether he plays or not depends on Fitz.
