for me I would keep Sheldon Rankins yes consider he has a high cap number but he fits this defensive scheme and would be a rotation player for Q. as long as they solve the other DT position either kicking JFM to inside or draft someone like Perrion Winfrey even Haskell Garrett then it will be okay to stick with Rankins and continue to develop Jonathan Marshall...
only thing is Rankins was horrible according to the analytics and his supposed strength was a weakness. He would need to have the staff convinced he can rebound.

look who he was being lined up with... can not successfully say he was the problem when they were defending against the run they had Nathan Sheperd out there with him a pass rusher... And when they were trying to collapse the pocket he was out there with run defender Folorunso Fatukasi, doesn't bode well for him when they were all on a snap count...

analytics by who not by the team, not by anybody that cares about the Jets game plan... Even they put him out there with rookie who looked raw but was more a liability...

Rankins also produced and collapsed the pocket, he stuff the gaps on his side causing tackles for loss... there was good with all the so called bad but people harp on the bad when it was not always his fault...

Sheldon Richardson on a cap friendly 1 year contract can help not only the Defense front. Hopefully with his years of experience can be a mentor to the young hungry Draftees we bring in to bolster the Defensive line.

Sheldon Richardson was a true grit type interior lineman, he always was that steady fast competitive player. It might be a good move to bring in that feisty type player to line up next to Quinnen. But real question I thought Franklin Myers was that typical 4-3 interior rusher?

  • I know we had so many injuries last year but Bryce Huff looked decent when healthy will he get a fair shot to earn an EDGE role?
  • Will Carl Lawson be ready for the start of next season and what type of production can we expect from him?
  • Cowboys letting Bradlee Anae go and the Jets able to get a young EDGE could be a sign of luck.
  • Do the Jets focus on drafting a day 2 EDGE or look to day 3 or priority free agency to build out the depth at this position? The fans will cry but in reality this position has potential in youth.
  • I hate that it does not look like fan fav Foley will be gone in FA. Nathan Sheperd who fans bitch about has a better shot getting a one year extension. I watched the Senior Bowl and @gmf1369 's notion a few months ago about Perrion Winfrey would be that ideal draft selection to line up with Quinnen Williams on the inside would be his move, oh my goodness that kid his explosiveness and athleticism was off the charts and his motor was running hot.
there were some other standouts but don't want to flood this topic with draft potential prospects as this is free agency targets, going to be interesting the next several weeks on who gets paid and who is shown the door.

this was someone throwing shade onto a situation to get people talking about what someone's value is rather than letting the player and team negotiate his worth. this negativity was more of hoping to make sure this player won't be re-signed by the team because social media is the number one item of communication and where players get in trouble with.

not worried about what the team is willing to pay him, more worried if they pay him will he be the 5th or 6th player in the receiver room getting good money or will he be elevated to the slot role. Hynut is a good all around player offers that utility role, doubt they pay him that much but from what he did last year he won't come cheap.

oh so you were paying attention?
still depends on how the team sees if Richardson could help and would he sign here for a minimal contract, I don't mean vet. min but a 1 year around $2 M deal...

you know what @Jetsfan4life you could be right...

need to find out who started it because it became the conversation overnight that people are fighting over the worth of a player who did everything he was asked and did it well...

he may not be Davante Adams but he did return a kickoff for a touchdown, almost had a couple others and his punt return ability and secure hands are unmatched... we used him as a RB, and receiver and he performed, rushing touchdown and receiver touchdown now his value is not likely to be that high but it should be slightly higher than his market value, even if the extra money comes in incentives after the structure and base are set up...

I know it's not our money because it's Woody Johnson's money and JDs money to spend etc.

But as a fan...

How much would you say Braxton Berrios is worth based off of his NFL production?
but discussions about a player's value are few and far between...
if he does in the future what he did last year, after being the 5th receiver on the depth chart then his role would be bigger moving forward, yes?

now I don't expect him to be paid $9 M annual but I could see him receive around $7 M annual from the total number with bonuses and incentives combined... his market value was set prior to this season, so what he has produced at all levels kind of erases that value and gives a minor boost...

The only problem is that Braxton is no Cole Beasley and my only concern is that Braxton isn't looking to get paid as a KR/PR; but instead he's looking to be paid as an elite slot receiver.
says who? this tweet? not from Braxton or his party, this was a discussion that started out of thin air from someone that is just kicking the proverbial can...

see difference is you are reading too much into it...

until the formal request is out there then this is a discussion that has too many variables on it and you are taking the bait...

Cole Beasley put in his time, got paid for his production as a slot receiver who lined up on the perimeter...
Braxton was the 5th receiver and punt return specialist until this year, when injuries and covid reared it's ugly head and he stepped up...
he loves to play football and is willing to do everything asked, that is a player you want to keep in house... the question you can not answer is can he continue to do a little bit of everything to help the offense, special teams produce at a high level as he had done this year and if so, it is going to cost...

Well I for sure don't see Braxton Berrios's camp denying these rumors.

But I suppose you're right and I'm giving it too much thought.

Not my money to begin with.
end of the day this was a discussion that I thought would be good for this forum to debate...
but at the end of the day, we don't know what his demands are specifically are, now from what I heard the numbers are not that high...
but at the same time Joe Douglas at the time was focusing on Mobile with the coaching staff, so talks stalled...
a jackknife type player who is a high character guy and a player that your so called franchise QB feels comfortable with, is a guy who is coming off his rookie contract and has out played that money... does he deserve a big contract, no but he deserved something reasonable that the team feels they are happy paying him for the services that he CAN provide as we saw last season...

Whose to say what he can do for the Jets. Maybe a Gadget player: Lines up at QB, RB, WR, Punter, place kicker holder? Can he throw the ball accurately? We know he can catch and run. For $7 mil and incentives. He may be the perfect option for LaFleurs Offense.

Apparently Duvernay-Tardif's medical license issues are resolved and he is clear to play next year. This year he elevated the right guard position to 'average'. It is said he is looking for somewhere he can start, but why would another franchise want to start a guy who wasn't good enough for the lowly Jets? Remembering he sat out the previous season and wasn't in our training camp, shouldn't we expect him to be better next year if we keep him. Not having to use a high draft pick or pay the Losers' Premium for a top FA would make those resources available for other needs. So should we go hard for him, make a competitive offer, or cut bait?

You said it correctly, he elevated the position to average which was a big improvement over Van Roten who lived up to his name and was rotten. I'd say we keep him and replace Van Roten with a potential starter from the draft.

saw one article who predicted where FAs would land......Schultz-TE to TEN for 3yr/$27m. Gotta think the Jets could/would beat that
