Look the Cards did this with Palmer a few years ago.. It worked yes no SB but one year Palmer was injured & another year the team was injured lol. They were in the hunt. with cousins we get a much younger QB & we have the blimp for down the road. I just worry about who will be left when we draft & if big mac can pick the right one.......no table scraps please

OK. I just think those draft picks would have to be really, really good, because at Cousins' number, you're not going to build any other way. And I don't view him like you do, I think he's a step above a game manager, but still more of a "dont lose it for us" than a "go out and win it for us" type of QB. And to me that's not the kind of guy you bury $30MM a year on.
Here is a problem I have. Do we go after the best QB in FA or a bridge QB. What if the Draft comes up and Indy and Clev (#4) trade out for QB needy teams (not the Jets). Now you have the possibility of 5 QB's taken ahead of us and we signed a bridge QB in FA. So we take the BPA. Now we don't have a QB of the future. So we either pick a RB, ER, OL or if Mac thinks the BPA is a Safety.
We are not looking at cousins may step up his game with a fresh start.......
My fear is that the powers that be are still looking forward to Hackenberg taking the reins at some point in 19. If that's the case, better use this draft to shore up the O Line , and skill positions . If / when it doesn't work out , at least there will be an offense in place for the 2019 QB.
I don't think Hackenberg is the answer in Bowles mind otherwise he should have given him game time experience this past year. Now if Mac thinks Hackenberg is then I can see us drafting another position.
Remember , Bowles did give Hack every opportunity to win the starting job in preseason and Bowles is pretty firm in his belief that you don't jump a 2 or 3 over a 1 or 2, just to give them playing time.
I know everyone was hoping to see Hack play but why would Bowles realistically play him. By the time McCown was hurt , and Petty crapped out , it would have been meaningless to play Hack. Vs NE, a game that wasn't really winnable, so the Media and fanbase could over react. Better to surround him with talent and then play him.
Bowles has a long way to go before he can be called a good coach, but he is not stupid.
I assure you , neither you , I , or anyone else on this board knows what's going on in Bowles,Mac's or the Johnson's minds. That's why the predictions about what any of them are going to do hover at around zero accuracy.
Fans are more emotional about the team, for the coaches, GMs and owners , it's about making business decisions. You don't roll out a new product if you don't think it's ready.
I don't hate Smith but I would sign him to be a caretaker of the offense for a year or 2 if we have to draft a guy like Lamar Jackson or Mason Rudolph. I prefer Smith over McCown any day of the week.. Smith has proven year in and year out that A. He is a solid QB and B. He can win games consistently.... 2 things McCown has never done and is 38... I would not sign Smith if that was the QB plan for the Jets.. ONly as a 2-3 year Mentor...
If, and that's a big IF, Cousins does hit the free agent market there will be a lot of competition for him, In a bidding war the price would go way up. No way of knowing how much the team would be willing to spend on him. I can hardly wait to see how all of this is going to pan out.
