Brady has benefitted from excellent o-line play, an offense that suits his skill set, and the rule changes which prevent DBs from covering receivers beyond 5 yards. Half of the routes in that offense are inside of 10 yards. Brady deserves credit though - he works incredibly hard by all accounts, and he knows how to play in the clutch. You can't teach that. It just is. I think Belichick lucked into Brady with that pick. But the same could be said for Kurt Warner with Dick Vermeil. If Trent Green doesn't go down, Warner never gets on the field.
Sometimes you have to be lucky...
Sack - to your point, I share your frustration. Pennington was a legit franchise QB when he was healthy. His arm was actually average before his injury. His anticipation and accuracy was off the charts, and his football IQ was superb, all of which made him such a good player. I don't know why this team can't get it right with QBs. I know I was very high on Watson, not because of his measurables, but because he knows how to win, and was a great leader on and off the field. He played his best in the biggest games. But I understand the Adams pick for sure. He'll lead this defense for years to come if he stays healthy.
My opinion is that we need to draft a QB that has the ability to lead men, and knows how to win. Some will say Mayfield has that, but I havent' seen him play against a defense that actually resembles an NFL level scheme. In his conference, it's Madden football. And his off the field stuff makes him too risky.
A few dark horses - The kid from Auburn impressed me in the Alabama game. I don't know much about him beyond that, but he played a great game and has physical skills. The kid from MIssouri impressed me a bit, and so did the QB from Northwestern. Lamar Jackson has those intangibles and leadership abilities, but I don't know if he could ever adapt to a pro system. Rosen has all the measurables and mechanics, but he could just as easily turn out to be Jay Cutler. Darnold might have the intangbiles, but he needs more time. He's not ready yet for the NFL. If he comes out he'll go high in the draft for sure based on potential, but he's far from a sure thing. I know this draft has a lot of QBs with talent, but picking the right one with the intangibles I mentioned might be hard to find.
