Pick #82 - Jets select Lorenzo Mauldin, OLB Louisville

Green Jets & Ham

Here's why I predict INSTANT SUCCESS for Mauldin as a situational pass rusher and eventually a three down player:

For the former, situational edge rusher, this kid has a very good burst, but also the size, strength and tenacity to fight off blocks and get to the QB, and because our D-line is so ridiculously talented and deep, this kid could not have been drafted into a better situation.

As I said following day one, after we picked THE BIG CAT and turned an already dominant D-line into a potentially elite, transcendent D-line that can take its place along-side the most celebrated D-lines in league history, the ceiling for this D-line is THAT HIGH, and because it is, this D-line will require so much attention that the designated edge rusher should have a field day beating TE's and RB's, and trust me, YOU CAN'T STOP THIS KID WITH TE's AND RB's ... NOT HAPPENING ... at Louisville he was seeing constant double teams, tackles and guards, because he was the primary focus for every offense he faced, so he is going to have a field day getting after QB's with the Jets.

As I said yesterday, this young man should drop to his knees and THANK GOD he was drafted into this situation. A young edge rusher could not have walked into a better situation than this.

And the reason I see him as an eventual three down starter, he's big and strong enough to set the edge verses the run, unlike some of the blue chip edge rushers who went considerably higher.

I already love this guy. Reading about his life, this is the guy you want to see succeed. He looks good at the LOS, getting off the snap. Looks like he's the edge rusher we need. And his passion and motivation is exactly what it should be.

I am not comparing him to watt but they have very similar motors. It's all or nothing with this kid.

I have to say, like most here, that I'm most excited about seeing this guy succeed out of all of our draft picks.
Truly amazing that his hard upbringing didn't break him!
And he seems like he's an amazing athlete, by those back flips, to go along with that motor...:smiley-cool11:

His size and build looks like Clowney to me. He has one of those bodies that looks like a 4-3 DE but he's athletic enough to play 3-4 OLB. For all those worried about his numbers declining from his jr to Sr year...I can tell you his drop in production was nothing compared to Clowney's before the Texans drafted him...you know, Clowney and those 3 total sacks he had his final year in school after the 13 he had the year before. :)

I'm all in with this kid. I have to admit I was a little salty at first because I wanted Duke in the 3rd round. But Mauldin is just the kind of person I love to root for, and guys like him are so refreshing after the Rex era of having to cheer for players who: tortured dogs, were felons after carrying guns into night clubs, threw weights at his coaches and punched them out, and ultimate "me guys"who divided the locker room.

Let those solid citizens populate the city of Buffalo moving forward. We are building a team we can be proud of here in NY.

Lol, it's true. He and Percy will be best of friends, I'm sure.

One thing to watch for is how Nick O'Leary assimilates up there. Jack's grandson doesn't take any crap from anyone and he is about as old school and scrappy as they come. Will be interesting if Percy or Incognito try to give him crap during some of the rookie hazing.

High motor guy. Plays faster than combine numbers. Very athletic

that's exactly what i took from his highlight vidoes & that's all i know about the kid as a player..

highlight vidoes can be very deceiving because any legit pro prospect can look like a stud in them..

but "playing" speed, quickness & agility were apparent in mauldin's..

I still have some reservations, as I was hoping for Harold first and have concerns about some of his measurables, but it's tough not to root for this kid to succeed.

Mauldin looks like he could be another stud in our already steller defense. I like this pick more and more as I learn more of this kid.

"Measurables" are often what gets a player onto the field, but heart is what keeps him there.

It seems apparent Mauldin is LOADED with the latter, so hopefully that more than compensates for any physical shortcomings he may have.

On the flip side, I've read Harold "disappears at times", so maybe we'll ultimately be thankful for how things panned out . . .

You may be right. I'll certainly be rooting for the kid!

Can't wait to see this kid on the field. We may have the next Ray Lewis here people. Not necessarily in talent (although it would be nice if its somewhere close) but in heart, determination, leadership and intelligence. We may just have us a player Jets faithful. I can see him turning out to be one of my favorites, if he brings it on the field the way he did through the struggles of his life.

I like this guy, the tape I have seen on him makes me wonder why fans think the Jets made a mistake taking him. He looks to have the short range explosiveness that a LBer needs to get to the QB. He also has violent hands.
