Here's why I predict INSTANT SUCCESS for Mauldin as a situational pass rusher and eventually a three down player:
For the former, situational edge rusher, this kid has a very good burst, but also the size, strength and tenacity to fight off blocks and get to the QB, and because our D-line is so ridiculously talented and deep, this kid could not have been drafted into a better situation.
As I said following day one, after we picked THE BIG CAT and turned an already dominant D-line into a potentially elite, transcendent D-line that can take its place along-side the most celebrated D-lines in league history, the ceiling for this D-line is THAT HIGH, and because it is, this D-line will require so much attention that the designated edge rusher should have a field day beating TE's and RB's, and trust me, YOU CAN'T STOP THIS KID WITH TE's AND RB's ... NOT HAPPENING ... at Louisville he was seeing constant double teams, tackles and guards, because he was the primary focus for every offense he faced, so he is going to have a field day getting after QB's with the Jets.
As I said yesterday, this young man should drop to his knees and THANK GOD he was drafted into this situation. A young edge rusher could not have walked into a better situation than this.
And the reason I see him as an eventual three down starter, he's big and strong enough to set the edge verses the run, unlike some of the blue chip edge rushers who went considerably higher.
