Guess that depends on one's opinion of arm strength, doesn't it?
Pennington got the job done but nobody ever accused him of having good arm strength.

Petty has a very strong arm.... I watched every one of his College games... I haven't seen tonight's game but the kid has a strong arm...

Antone Smith really betrayed Hackenberg on that 2:00 drive towards the end.

First Smith drops a well designed screen play that had BIG GAINER written all over it if he catches the ball.

Then, on third down, he tries to stop and start and gets tackled short of the sticks, when all he had to do was turn and run straight up field for the sticks and we would have had a new set of downs ... which brought on a failed forth down attempt.

Thats why he was still on the street when we signed him, and I suspect he'll be back on the street very soon.

Just a word on the first team defense ...

WOW

Seriously, thats the word, WOW, if we're gonna play defense like that this year, I pity the fools on our schedule.

Not even close to a fair comparison, Petty to Chad in arm strength.

If you question Petty's arm strength, you either don't know who Bryce Petty is or don't know what arm strength means.

Sack, this was the same poster who clearly stated that Matt Cassel was a better QB than Tom Brady on the old board.

Defense and special teams are going to keep us in a bunch of games this year, and might win us a few as well. If Fitz and the offense don't screw it up, we could have a nice year regardless of the schedule.
As a side note, I hope Harris is ok.

My impressions of the 4 QB's:

Ryan Fitzpatrick-Back in the groove again making this offense work.

Geno Smith-Theres a reason why he got two drives folks. No movement whatsoever. Nuff Said.

Bryce Petty-The guy has a gun (dont know how someone said other wise) He started off slow but had a pair of very good throws. I would have liked to see how he bounced back after the pick six.
Though in fairness, he played a little erratic, but its part of his development so i wouldnt worry too much.

Christian Hackenberg-You can tell this kid will be our franchise QB once it's all said and done. That first drive he displayed poise, leadership and ice in his veins. Then he showed his rookie colors in which why would any one blast him for it. He has no buisness seeing the field this season. He will be brought along slowly of course and i'am sure the organization will want to see him make a substantial progression in year two to push whom ever is the back in 2017 to elevate from 3rd stringer to #2.

I honestly like where we're headed with our QB young gun situation. Mike Macagnan is using the Ron Wolf approach and i love it!

I like Harris a boat load, but it seems as if this regime has some uncanny ability to look into the immediate future. Last year we drafted the Big cat as it seemed we were loaded at the position, then a month after the draft, Sheldon was disciplined 4 games.
Now this year, we draft a studd in Darron Lee and it seems (pending on Harris's injury) that Lee might be the opening day starter.

Thought Julian Stanford played pretty well taking over for Harris last night. Freddie Bishop looks good as well.

The guy that is flying under the radar and i just love his motor and pass rush abilities is Mike Catapano. He reminds me a lot of Jared Allen. Though he got a little dinged up, you can tell he will be contributing very nicely this season for us.

Dan - My opinion on the QBs:

I think Fitz's performance was a bit rough in my opinion, although you can probably attribute that to a combination of rust, no Marshall and force feeding Forte the ball. The good - his back shoulder TD to Decker. The bad - I had flashbacks to Sanchez and Geno on the fumble.

Geno's short stint was a bit of a head-scratcher. Although he didn't do anything particularly great, he wasn't bad either. So, an incomplete for me. Perhaps they wanted to showcase him with the 1's for teams who may be watching.

Petty was not as good as you suggest, again in my opinion. In fact I thought he took a bit of a step back, but I temper the criticism a bit because he was playing against Giants 1's with our 2's. He is clearly more comfortable this year, but that pick 6 was ugly.

Was really excited, yet apprehensive as to what we would see from Hack. I liked what I saw in that he clearly has the tools, but not to be too repetitive he's green as grass. I think the organization is playing this kid the right way, and I am thankful that he won't rushed. He could be our franchise guy - finally. Interested to see him getting more time against the Eagles.

Honestly, I thought that was the worst Fitz has looked since he's been a Jet. That looked nothing like the guy who had a career year last year. That looked like the guy in Buffalo to close out the season.

I hope its just rust. For now I'll assume that it was.

The WR situation is getting very interesting. Thompkins' absence during preseason and the emergence of Anderson, Marshall and to a lesser degree Peake will make cuts something to watch. I think we are in a good situation with Marshall, Decker and Enunwa which will allow us to gamble somewhat by keeping at least two rookies. Might be telling that we saw both Anderson and Marshall starting with the 1's. I realize both BMarshall and Enunwa were not available in the game, but the fact that the coaching staff had confidence in them may speak volumes.

The TE situation is murkier with Amaro not available and Sudfeld making a bit of a statement. Bostick is also a guy who is showing that he belongs. Davis IMO should be cut.

Agreed on both counts.

In my updated roster projections, I have Bostick making it and Davis getting cut.

As for the WR's, I think we're gonna carry an unusually high number so we don't lose any of these kids. I could be wrong about that, but I can see us carrying 7 WR's. Thats what I'm currently projecting.

Even with 7, I still have Thompkins as the odd man out.

No matter which team I root for in all of sports, losing to the team that won last night pains me more than any other loss.
There are teams I root for.
There are teams I root against.
There are teams I dislike.
There are teams I hate.
But the team with which the Jets share a stadium?
I hate them, their fans, their legacy and their entire organization.
Don't try to bother me with facts or questions.
I don't care that it was an exhibition game.
I'm pissed.

Just watched replay on NFL network.

Minimal time for Geno - do they have a deal done to send him to Dallas or elsewhere?

Milliner did not impress me - got beat again

Dookie kicker should get a job somewhere

Hack has potential

If Harris is out for a while, wonder whether that leads to more 4-3 to get our best players on the field?

Bears lost their 3rd string QB too...

I felt like how he played against Washington was bad.
I thought last night he played fair.

I was really worries about how long the Fitz deal took. The one thing I am still certain of is that Fitz MUST practice to be successful. He simply isn't good enough to go without and step on the field and be successful. I don't know that any QB is.

This contract fight went a lot longer than I thought would be healthy for the team. For a while, I had hopes after Fitz signed at the beginning of camp that he could hit the ground running, but my initial fears have been acknowledged. All this time that Fitz spent without someone to practice with, without actual players to throw the ball to, without being able to mimic those real games scenario with real live pros, has IMO cost him some level of effectiveness.

This really bears watching.

IMHO, Fitz SHOULD get a lot of reps in the Eagles game, because he simply isn't good enough right now to skip the Eagles games and go right into the regular season. It took a long time for him to build up chemistry with his receivers last season. We cannot short his training and expect he'll do as good or better then last season.

My hope is that this will not cost us any games n the regular season?? I am not so sure......

FWIW

Listening to the post game show on FM on the way home last night, the announcers (Don La Geca and Anthony Becht?) postulated that it was Petty being showcased for a trade, not Smith. They opined that it is important that there be an experienced backup. No one called in and challenged them on that.

One way or another, I hope the situation resolves itself soon because the topic is getting tiresome and there will be much more interesting things to talk about between now and New Years Day eve.

As far as the game went, one note: If this D is as good as it looked last night, you can sign 75 yr old Mike Taliaferro to start and this team will have a chance. Come to think of it, is Vinnie available these days?
