Looking good and keep building! Young and aggressive and hopefully a lot better than last year.

Can't have 2 starting MLBers making this type of money in a year when the cap sucks . What gives here folks

Cashman right now looks like an outside linebacker
Jarrad Davis signing is the middle linebacker role

CJ Mosley the team has been receiving trade offers for

the team tried to sign Keanu Neal to play the other outside linebacker role

expect the team to draft one or two linebackers not in the early rounds

I wonder if Kyle Philips will make this roster. I like that kid. Maybe rotate with Zuniga?

John Franklin-Myers albeit listed as a defensive end in a 3-4 actually plays/fits better as a defensive tackle in a 4-3 if anyone is going to backup Quinnen it would be Myers...

This opens the door saying Folorunso Fatukasi is our starting Nose Tackle the recently signed Sheldon Rankins would be his backup... What does that mean for the likes of Nathan Sheperd?

At defensive end we should likely see Jabari Zuniga at the left end starting role unless the team drafts another EDGE guy... Zuniga's backup role player would be Kyle Phillips... At the other end spot we have Carl Lawson and his role guy Bryce Huff...

  • In a 4-3 or 4-3 teams usually carry 5 to 6 interior linemen so right now we have 5...
  • EDGE or defensive ends the team usually only carries 4 some teams less with 3...
  • the big mystery is the linebacker positions, we know when healthy right now Cashman is the best cover linebacker on the roster... He should to move to outside linebacker... The Jets tried to sign Neal and convert him to linebacker he would of been the other outside starter... Signing Jarrad Davis is the starting middle linebacker role leaving CJ Mosley in limbo...
  • Marcus Maye and Lamarcus Joyner are the presumed starting safeties, Ashtyn Davis had a subpar rookie season leaving him at the special teams and backup role... We have other ERFAs on the roster in Saquan Hampton and Elijah Campbell but opens the door for the team to draft another safety in the mid rounds...
  • Jets are in need of one nickel corner to give depth behind Javelin Guidry who impressed in his limited play last season, expect the team to focus this position in the draft... Bryce Hall & Blessuan Austin earned their starting roles... The key fact is after these two the depth is suspect at best... Corey Ballentine claimed off waivers last season from the Giants is on his third year of a rookie scale contract, affordable... Lamar Jackson is also on a rookie scale year to year contract, making him affordable... If the Jets do indeed make a run at a corner in the draft for depth would be in the later rounds... Albeit both our current starters fell because of injury to day 3 of the draft but both had 1st grade talent before their injuries, so one never knows which way Robert Saleh & Joe Douglas may go here...

After reading through all that, i came away thinking that Jabril Cox is going to be a high priority on the Jets draft board .

like I said somewhere both Ulbrich and Saleh were at Georgia Pro Day and they were spotted talking to both MLB Monty Rice & OLB Azeez Ojulari... Both would be dominate additions and both are expected to be drafted in late 4th, early 5th round...

One scout told me, Rice is a tackler in space. He says that Rice is natural in that area and possesses a high football IQ. He questions whether or not Rice is cut out to play all three downs at the NFL level.

Another scout told me, Ojulari has had a strong pro day and "polished up" an already impressive resume.

now both these guys are in our need column but another prospect from UGA is CB Eric Stokes who also had a strong campaign and is expect to be taken high in the draft... Depending on how Ulbrich & Saleh see Hall & Austin will determine if Stokes is on our draft board...

Nathan Sheperd had a less than stellar season so he might find himself the odd man out. A situation worth keeping an eye on.

Disagree. I thought he continued to improve and played quite well. Remember, after the first few games, the Jets' run defense was quite stout, and he was a nice part of that.

Not saying he played poorly, just not quite the improvement I expected and even PFF has him rated lower than Rankins. So if they were to not start one of the two I think Sheperd would be the number 2. I'm sure he'll still make the roster. I would hope so because I have a personal interest in his career.

so looking at our projected defense, we have 2 spaces unfilled . One at linebacker and the other at Edge . Who's left in free agency that fits our needs ? Would we entertain signing an older veteran to work alongside Lawson on the Edge or just get our fill via the draft At linebacker we still have that huge Mosley contract on the roster but he's not penciled into our projection . Is there an option on the roster, in free agency or are we heading into the draft with these positions in mind .

Mosley could be the middle linebacker for this defense if they plan to keep him but the noise that is banging out of Florham Park throughout the league is that the team is seriously listening to offers for trade... Until the draft comes and goes and he is still a part of the roster then he is the penciled in starter... He would be the logical starter but not sure he is a perfect fit for Saleh/Ulbrich's defense...

With Jarrad Davis speed he could be the Sam LB (ROLB) in this scheme but his coverage skills are lacking since they will be playing more under/over coverage in the 4-3 cover 3 scheme...

I expect them to draft another DE/EDGE but not sure... Is Zuniga worthy of being the starter, will Kyle Phillips recover and continue to develop? Lawson likely starter and Bryce Huff would be his backup/role player...

Again until the draft comes there is no rush to pencil in a starter in those two spots...

talk around Jets social media is LaMarcus Joyner will play safety but as a role player...

that Ashtyn Davis will be the lead candidate to play the other safety role problem is we now have 3 free safeties competing for one job...
