I hope Brady takes Vilma's advice and takes the NFL to court.

Then the league can subpoena all those records Brady refused to hand over to them. They would have to reveal the identity of "JF," who they went to great lengths to hide. And they'd have to let the league's counsel talk to McNally again.

Yes, Tom, please take the league to court.

I'm over this. I don't care if he gets any games, the whole world outside of NE know he cheated and the Pats have cheated for many years. This is a great outcome. The more he fights the more the world sees and the more people that will come out of the woodwork.

On what grounds would Brady bring the league to court? The investigation and imposition of the punishment was done as described in the rules. Would the case be that the league cannot determine how to handle itself?

Didn't Kraft say the Patriots would be content with whatever the result of the investigation was? And now he's acting like a petulant little boy, kicking and screaming because the results weren't in Tom Tom's favor.

In all fairness, he said that when he expected his buddy Roger to have his back. Now that Goodell went against the family, that deal is no good.

And honestly, would you ever put your trust in a single word anyone from that organization ever said?

Who cares if it was baseless? He would be opening himself up to further investigation and scrutiny.

No, and after this, I think that most fans of most teams probably feel the same way. In the years to come, when people talk about great dynasties, only Pats fans will rank them with the Steelers and Cowboys etc. Everyone else will rightfully look at them as dishonest players at best, cheaters at worst, and that will be their legacy. And nothing they can ever do will ever change that now. No matter how many Super Bowls they win, nothing can change that! That's the truest punishment - for the rest of their lives, Patriots fans will have to defend this, and they will go red in the face trying to argue that this dynasty was on the up and up, and no one will listen. It won't matter. The entire dynasty can now be hand-waved away. "Yeah, but they cheated." For the fans, I think that's a pretty severe punishment, but one that they deserve. They got to benefit from the cheating, now they have to pay the price.

Well, one thing I am worried about is that someone mentioned that companies that provide texting services may not keep texts on their servers for more than 6 months. In that case, Brady's texts could all be gone before a subpoena could be issued.

If they appeal, I would put 16 games on the table if Brady can't prove 100% that he didn't have any thing to do with the balls.

I don't think so. Nobody held the Raiders of the late 70's & 80's to that standard. The only difference is that they embraced it.

I actually think there is merit to something along this line of thinking! The morons on the NFL Network who kept trumpeting that there was never concrete statements in the report that said "he did it. he knew it was going down".

Noted!

But when he brings the appeal forward, the commish should ask for the records that would clear him!
* if he got four games for circumstantial evidence, and the Bizitch is whining!
* when he produces the info, he should get a longer for confirming it!

Before people start saying "innocent until proven guilty". "I plead the 5th"- don't bother.

his/their punishment was for obstructing an investigation.

One more thing...the naysayers, notably Brian Baldinger, said there was no hard evidence...they didn't need a report for that.

1. pre-game...balls met specs
2. post-game...11 of 12 didn't

Hey Brian, you're wrong!

That's a bit before my time, so I will take your word for it that that is an accurate comparison. Maybe I'm wrong, but I do think these incidents severely cast doubt on the legitimacy of this dynasty, and I don't think there's anything they could do going forward that will ever change that impression. Of course, I am being uncharitable in my view toward them, and I presume there are other examples of rule breaking we don't know about, which there may not be. But I don't think it is unreasonable to take this stance; they've proven themselves to be untrustworthy.

I'd like to hear one Patriot fan admit guilt. All my Patriot friends won't respond to my e-mails, and have gone underground in hiding. Be a MAN Brady and admit your mistake / guilt.

Like with Lance Armstrong or Arod or any douche that has lied or cheated, if Brady had admitted his guilt early he would have been forgiven and people would have forgot by now. By prolonging this with silence he is just making it worse. This is a way better punishment to see his character questioned than everyone saying that at least he came clean.

So far, I have only heard Dan Shaughnessy show maturity in this situation. Every other Pats fan, pretty much every other Pats writer (including national writers who grew up in Patsland, like Dan Wetzel), have all cried and tried sweeping this under the rug.

I'm SICK of it. When Woody opened his mouth about Revis, a ton of Jets fans, myself included, said he was stupid and should be punished. And the NY papers destroyed him for it.

When the Pats get caught OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN cheating, not once do you hear even a decent minority of Pats fans and journalists get off their Belichick bandwagon. They really are the least objective people I have met.

Geez, the self-righteous indignation here is just ridiculous.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/05/14/patriots-fight-back-with-website-attacking-wells-report/

Every other team that gets caught will, at some point, acknowledge what they did, apologize, and move on. The Patriots are repeatedly caught, and they NEVER show themselves to be men about it.

I hope the league considers this reaction when hearing the appeal. They haven't shown the least bit of contrition, but instead have continued to deny in the face of tremendous evidence - evidence that was gathered despite the Patriots' obstruction of the investigation.

Good heavens, even the Saints put out a statement of contrition, despite the league coming down excessively hard on them.

What a bunch of whiny, petulant children in Foxboro.

Well there was also Jim Donaldson from the Providence Journal whose piece I posted here a few days ago. Seems to be another rational piece from a Pats writer.
