QB problem Solved? Not this way

I know. It just seems there is more of a tendency to want to allow for discussions to turn personal, which was far more the JI culture than the scout culture. JI was more lenient, scout was more heavy-handed.

I don't apologize for acknowledging the truth that the two boards were pretty close to polar opposites. That doesn't mean we can't find common ground, but it takes some give-and-take on both sides.

I'm with you. I also think you have a negative perception of JI. I think it only turned to hell when they announced the sale to Scout. The users got mad and didn't follow any rules.

Back to to your other point, there is a common ground somewhere. We'll find it. I'm not worried about that. Hopefully soon though bc this has been lingering for a while.

I think we will find our way, but it is a bit alarming that in a year and a half, we are still seeking our identity, our middle ground.

Plus, I think there was a notion of ownership that came from JI, in that it was a bigger board. So when scout was taken over, there really was no place where scout posters had any leverage any more. Our own board was taken from us without our knowledge or say, and we would be in the minority on any other board we populated. From the JI perspective, those who chose to go over to scout after the acquisition were "taking over" that board. For those who didn't, and instead came here, the JI posters were the top dog at JFU in the context of numbers.

The first "merger," the acquisition of the scout board, was extremely poorly done in many ways, most notably in ignoring the differences in culture between the two boards - all in the name of potential profits. The second merger, this board, brought together two former boards who, through no fault of their own, had the rug pulled out from under them on their former boards. As far as I am concerned, JFU has done absolutely the best it could do under the circumstances. But that doesn't necessarily mean a true common ground has been reached yet.

It's actually a shot at both boards. Scout was rightly viewed as being heavy-handed in preventing arguments from becoming personal, and JI was rightly viewed as being lenient.

I make no apologies for acknowledging the truth about both boards.
i didn't ask for any apology but the crying is getting old.. you think this place is rough?? you have no idea.....

But I think you're the majority here. Or, at least it seems to me that the whole character of this board changed when the Scout crew arrived.

No, I have no idea. It's so scary out in the real world.

But I don't necessarily care for seeing a long-time scout poster mocked based on his handle, because he disagrees with someone on a football issue. To me, that doesn't seem productive.

That's an interesting take. I had not thought of it that way. You may be right.

Either way, that is how common ground is found, through synthesis between opposing views. Ultimately, I think the criticisms that scout was heavy-handed had merit - and that's coming from someone who was a moderator there and part of that problem.

Maybe we are much further along than I thought we were. You might be right.

That's because most JetsInsider people either went to JetsNation or the Hampur. This place picked up the stragglers that didn't have a home (myself included) which boggles my mind that we still have that split. In my opinion if we never said that we are former JI or former Scout, there wouldn't be unnecessary fighting about identities. There would be disagreements.

We'll be okay.

We could be friends. We'll have to wait and see. Still, have to respect a guy with a doctorate.

Bah. Just means I didn't want a job with four cubicle walls. I'd rather toil in academia than schmooze in a corporate office.

That's true. But those stigmas, on both sides, have persisted. I think a lot of it has to do with how both sides got screwed in the "merger." There was anger all around, and though neither side was responsible for it, there were no other available outlets.

I like seeing disagreements about football. I like it when those debates are passionate. Hell, MJ and I have gone at it on football on a variety of issues. But I don't recall it ever really getting personal.

Seeing BlindsideBrick get attacked based on his screen name was, to me, unnecessary, and it kind of highlighted the cultural divide between the two boards. I disagree with him on a variety of issues, both football and otherwise, but I guess the attack on his name is what prompted my response.

I hope you're right. I went to JN and the new hampur reincarnation. I blew up my account at the latter site once I found out what a crew of the insane they were. I've been struggling to decide between JN and here ever since. The struggle continues. Perhaps I'll stay on both sites.

Actually, the volume is the biggest drawback to me of that site. It's like being in the middle of a stampede. If I haven't checked the site in a couple days, I have to lay off most topics. Can't read through the 10 pages I've missed. Unless it's a topic of great interest to me, like deflategate.

thank you. I appreciate your feedback and for continuing giving JFU a chance.

Sometimes this forum needs a time out. People need to stop making things so personal.

It's really simple. Disagree respectfully. Throttle back the nasty sarcasm. Most of the time, none of us are right. We're just opinionated.

For what it's worth, In my opinion personal insults of any kind are unnecessary. Disagree with topics and points of view but attacking someone for their screen name or whatever is totally pointless

As small as this forum is, it does call for great discussion.

One of the funniest encounters is how Elias & i met:

I was at a Beer garden in Astoria (studio square) this past spring and was downing a couple with a friend when i saw some 20 year old with a B.Marsh T-Shirt. Called him over and we started talking about our squad. After chatting it up, he went his way. After a good 10 minutes i see the same guy walking with a friend approaching me....

His friend came straight up to me (thinking he was gonna stab me) and said,

"Are you NYJETSDAN16?" I said "yeah?", He then says, "i'am Elias, founder of JFU"

I then asked him how in the world did he know it was me and he then proceeds and says:

"When my friend came back from getting a pitcher, he told me he met a crazy Jets fan who thinks we're going 12-4 this year. At that point, i placed two and two together and knew it could only be one person in this world who would ever be so positive and purely a lunatic to ever conceive that way of thinking."

Guys, this board is Magic!
