O line takes time to gel, but word on the street is it still looks like shit.
We need guys to be healthy, then next step is to get them working as a cohesive unit. With all of the injuries we have 5 strangers trying to work together right now. I'm holding out hope that they get this right and we are a vastly improved unit

Just finished watching Hard Knocks moments ago and was feeling like most, "all in".
Then I read how poorly the OL is once again not only taking the wind out of my sails, but proving a poor OL shows
no matter who is under center, the OL will break hearts. I was worried our first 6 games can yield 2-3 wins only, I won't go further in my thoughts of the moment.

Well we hired a new O-line coach and spent very little capital on O-line talent. So with that mode or operation, seems to me like JD feels the problem with the O-line was not the talent.
If we can get Becton healthy and Brown back healthy, we should be in a better place. But that is all really big "ifs"

We were a 7-10 team last year and OL was a big reason for that. Nobody should be shocked it still looks bad.
One more injury - and Becton’s career is probably over for all intents and purposes. At this point, he has NO trade value.
Moreover, unless he can prove this summer some meaningful display of talent and durability it would be not shock that his Jet career is over by Final Cut down day.
Also - Mitchell is on thin ice - as of now - I expect him to get cut and probably end up on a practice squad(probably Jets). No one is going to pick him up for their 53 the way he is playing

A few more preseason games and we should have our answer on that. If Becton isn't healthy enough to make it through the preseason, he may very well be cut.
Info coming out of camp has been a mixed bag. He looks great on one play, then he's a turnstile the next. Talent is there, but 2 straight years injured (and he may still be recovering), and things don't look so good. Reports have said he looks like our best O-lineman on rushing down (dude can just mow people over), but he got beat pretty bad on a quick spin move by the DE.
Seems like part of the issue is him just building up confidence in the knee. As long as he isn't hurt, I'm willing to give him until the end of the preseason to see where he is at.

Mitchell played well at RT as a rookie until he got hurt (blood clot issue in lungs). Not all OTs are suited to playing LT, and it seems we are finding that out about Mitchell. I wouldn't give up on him yet though.
I do not think they want to give up on him - but he seemingly needs time on the(a) practice squad - and not ready, at least at this point, to either start or be an injury away from being thrust into doing so
In the past - some teams who have drafted centers high let them get their feet wet at guard.
If the team decides it best to move Vera Tucker to RT - it would not shock me - in possible anticipation of same that Tippmann starts getting some reps at RG. Seems smart to let McGovern(even though he does have some career experience at guard)with all his center experience particularly in line calls to stay(or at least start the season)at center.
Just conjecture - much of the forgoing surmise is dependent on Brown & Becton - not to mention others competing at guard.

In the HoF game, I thought the interior of the line didn't perform very well. I guess that I'd like to see AVT stay inside. But if he can play RT at a high level then the team has to move him if Becton can't stay healthy.
What I've heard about Becton is that he has been improving and it may just be a matter of him trusting his knee.
At this point there are huge question marks at both Tackle spots. Honestly JD should aggressively go make a trade. If he can get a Tackle GREAT! If he can get a solid Guard, then do it and we move AVT to RT for the season.

I'm guessing that the team is waiting until after the Carolina game to make trading decisions.
I suspect the team is closely monitoring the league and at final cutdown there may be some quick snatching/maneuvering. Of course, the next 10 days will be determinative
