Reliable Source: Joe Douglas to the Jets is in a bag

I want to do a couple of thing here - first give Christopher Johnson credit. He was aggressive and went after top talent, and they got the guy they wanted along. I've said before that I like Christopher's approach. He has vision and he wants to win. He has a lot to learn, but I think he's a quick study and has some business acumen. There may be some truth to the rumors that there are other members of the Jets organization that are more problematic. Those folks should either be shown the door, or should be put in their place. I think giving Douglas a very long term deal with a lot of control does that. He's empowered to make decisions with that kind of a deal. And he should be. I think he'll put together an excellent staff.

I also want to add - I was not a fan of the Gase hire - I thought he was mediocre at best in Miami. But it's apparent to me now that he has a lot of respect around the league and is helping to bring in top notch talent in the front office. I'm also guessing that he shares the same philosophy as Douglas, they want high character, football players, not necessarily just good athletes that could be problems on and off the field for the team. That's the right approach. Guys like CJ Mosley, Jamal Adams and of course Sam Darnold are the types of players you want on your team. So good job by Gase too. I'm warming up to his approach.

This team still has some holes on the roster - but the organization already looks a whole lot better for the present and the future.

Andre Dillard, the best LT to come out of college in years who protects the QB like he was his little brother.

He was on your list of top 10 prospects as well.
You know what I just remembered?

The Eagles actually traded up for Dillard, one spot ahead of Houston that desperately needed a LT, and by all accounts they were salivating to draft Andre Dillard if he slid one more pick, but the Eagles looked at Houston's needs and knew they had to leap the Texans if they wanted Dillard. Houston was so discombobulated when Philly leaped them for Dillard they drafted OT Tytus Howard, a player I actually like, but he was a consensus 2nd or 3rd RD Pick and I was hoping he would slide to the Jets early 3.

The Eagles burned the Texans to a crisp. :global (6):

Just goes to show how highly rated Dillard was, ( is ), Damn, I wish we could have gotten him and how good a judge of talent Douglas is, he was the one who wanted him, and how aggressive he is at getting the talent he wants. In my book this bodes well for us now and in the near future.

i didn't like the timing of how macc was let go after he was allowed to conduct free agency and the draft, but in the end, things worked out well for the jets. douglas was clearly their top target and someone very respected throughout the league. he was part of multiple super bowl winning front offices. and while we don't know the real details behind the he said-she said rumors about how douglas kept turning the jets down, only to see the team come back with a bigger offer, even if this is true, it shows he's a tough negotiator. not a bad thing to have in our new GM.

like LIJETFAN above, i too wasn't enamored with the gase hire, but he's also growing on me. granted his team has't played a single snap of real ball yet, and on the field results are what will matter.

despite the seemingly haphazard way the coach/GM situations worked themselves out, i am happy with the direction and leadership of the squad. and i like the 6 year deal douglas got, giving him true power, even if it could appear gase is the one pulling the strings.
