We were wrong. This makes the annual late season winning streak that much more nauseating.
ESPN NFL draft analyst Todd McShay said Monday morning on the Mike & Mike show that Jameis Winston is one of the top quarterbacks that he has evaluated in recent years.
McShay said the former Florida State star is one of the top quarterbacks he's evaluated as far as being NFL-ready in the last decade, putting him second to only Andrew Luck.
"If you're just grading off of what you see on tape, he'll have the second-highest quarterback grade that I will have given in the last 10 years," McShay said. "He's a unique player."
After seeing Winston and former Oregon standout Marcus Mariota on film and at the NFL combine, McShay praised both players. He specifically referenced the "high football IQ" of both quarterbacks. But he feels there is a gap between Winston and Mariota.
"I think there is separation," McShay said. "Jameis Winston, to me at least, on the tape, there is a difference. You watch the pro-style system that he is in, you see the anticipation throws that he makes from inside the pocket. I think he has natural accuracy."
Agreed 1, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000 percent. Hopefully with this regime tanking won't be a question because they will win a lot more then they will lose.
Tanking is for LOOOOOOOSERS players and looser fans ...go ahead and walk in the locker room and tell Sheldon Richardson and Nick Mangold and Brick and Harris and Ivory..busting their asses off play in play out giving their guts and heart and soul that they aren't playing to win and they are sacrificing their bodies every play to where they could get injured and never play again.....Ill show them a coach or GM strung up from their locker room ceiling..
A smart coach and GM can throw games without the players even knowing.
I think you really underestimate the intelligence of players...they know their teams strengths and weaknesses maybe not a game plan totally specific..but they know what is real..and what is going through the motions....
Bronx, its not over if you like Mariota.I've been saying for some there is huge difference between Mariota and Winston. Winston will be a franchise QB. Mariota is a ?. No, he won't be Luck, but he will a big time player. He will be a winner. Too bad we didnt lose a couple more games
Bronx, its not over if you like Mariota.
Right now my money is on Mariota sliding to the Jets, unless somebody trades up in front of us.
Such a shame.... Jets always hurt themselves. Congrats Geno on your perfect QB rating in week 17!
I will be beside myself, if he falls to 6 and we can pull off a trade with the Eagles. I will be much happier with extra picks/Foles/Geno as opposed to Mariota / Geno.
Not one time did I ever watch Winston and think he was Luck.
Of course not, they look nothing alike. Winston's the black dude. Right?
Agreed! Its amazing how much a run of the mill football fan claims they know more then a sports analysis or scout or whatever the hell you want to call these guys that get paid to do this. They watch countless hours of film, go the all or most of the games, conduct interviews with the players, coaches, teammates, family members if needed etc-etc. But regular Joe-smos like you and I swear they know more. Its pretty funny when you think about it. Hopefully this isn't another case of he is black so he can't possibly be that good and as intelligent as a white QB like Luck. SMH!Look, I'm not interested in getting into a pissing contest. With that said, Ponder and EJ are not succeeding in the NFL because they aren't good enough. Period. Regarding McShay, if you think you know more than he does than I will say that you're delusional. This is a hobby to us; part time. He spends all day just watching tapes of players and doing homework. How many hours of Winston game tape have you studied again? Zero? Exactly.
The Kipers and McShays of the world aren't perfect, but then again neither are guys named Parcells, Polian, and Wolf. The bottom line is we like to think we know a lot reading articles and watching games on tv when we can. But if we were to go to a bar with McShay for a couple beers tonight, he would make your head spin with the depth of information he has on these prospects.
I'm not saying we should take his word as gospel, but to dismiss his opinion (more educated than any of us here) is just silly. So is Winston as good he says? Maybe and maybe not. But his opinion that he's the 2nd highest rated QB in the draft in the last 10 years is significant, no matter how much you try to discredit him.
I just have a hard time understanding why people think the Birds are going to give up the farm to trade with the Jets. IMO the odds are that they will go to the Raiders to keep Mariota away from the Jets.
Only way it happens is if it happens before draft night. Very rare. Remember Parcells did it 2 weeks before the draft, with the first pick, but still very rare. If the Birds trade up the night of the draft, I'm fairly confident it will be with the Raiders.
This is true, flgreen, Bronx has it exactly right, the difference in even one draft spot is huge in the TOP 6 and they can literally save themselves the equivalent of another 1st RD Pick by trading with us instead of a team thats ahead of us, so it really behooves them to trade with us instead of the teams ahead of us if they think they can still get Mariota.OL
Give up the farm? The higher they trade, the more the cost. Why would they want to pay more, for the same result. They trade with us, because we are the most likely to take a QB
True, but what they would have to do is essentially establish the draft pick equivalent of Foles, something both teams agree on, then subtract that number of draft chart value points from the trade, then make up the difference in picks.Yes, thanks Ham for the detailed explanation. The Eagles can give up less, picks wise, if they include Foles. We would be a great trade partner.
