Report: Harvin Informs Jets he will not by taking Pay Cut

Just seemed odd a Brit fanatical enough about American football to participate in a forum, and with a team that has not been very successful like the Jets. Curious as to the connection, that's all. I follow English football (BPL) and to a lesser degree La Liga (Real Madrid and Barca), but mostly the glamour teams because of their collection of pure soccer talent. This time of year I'm watching soccer on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

The article has a misleading title. It is citing La Canfora's previous documented opinion that Harvin will not take a pay cut.
I still feel Harvin may be too talented just to release. It would be one thing if he were an older player, but at 26 and very talented, the Jets have a difficult decision to make. I think he can be a valuable playmaker in Gailey's offense.

He can be awesome in gaileys system but not for 10m The highest I would go is 5-6 m.

I'm honestly surprised Idzik doesn't get more killed for this trade. In my opinion, it is the worst he made while a Jet. Reason? In a lost season, he goes out and picks up a known problem child with a prohibitive cap # that no reasonable thinking GM would pay long term. If we were a fringe super bowl team, ya he makes perfect sense as a 1 year hired mercenary. He potentially puts us over the top. But what the hell did we gain in a season that was already lost?

Basically, it set us up to lose a draft pick and gain absolutely nothing from his acquisition. Just never got the thinking on this one.

Think he was pressured by people that he didn't land a wr in the draft he was prob trying to save his job. Most likely it was a me first move not a team move.

Harvin is only 26, I would agree if he were 30, Idzik probably felt Harvin would be with the Jets for numerous seasons.

I kinda liked the move myself. He was originally a first-round pick and, if he plays at a first-round level, the Jets get a first-rounder at the cost of a 4th-round pick. If he doesn't play at a first-round level, we risk a 6th-round pick. Pretty smart move IMO.

Of course, for it all to work he has to restructure. If not, all we lose is a 6th rounder. Worth the risk in my judgment.

I don't care how old he is. He's a 5'10 special teams/gadget player known better for migraines, injuries, and fights with coaches than he ever has been for scoring touchdowns. This is not the player you tie up more than 10 million of your cap with.

My opinion is that Mac and Bowles are very smart football people. I am willing to bet my house that they don't bring Harvin back at that number. Even in a year with 54 million of extra cap.

I liked the move also, for the very same reasons. Made a bunch of sense to me at the time, and I'm not going to 2nd guess it now.

He's a nice complimentary piece, but not a #1 receiver, not worth resigning at that price. Jets would be wise to let him test the FA market. He won't sniff 10M anywhere else and might come back at a more reasonable number.
agreed.. i didn't even bother reading the article..

if harvin wants to stay & rework a reasonable contract, great.. the guy is a talent.. if not, let him eat cake..

I remember being happy about it. It gave me a sliver of hope that our offense might actually start taking off. I, too, won't second guess now. Idzik knew he could be cut, and only lose a 6th rounder with no financial hit.

When was the last time we did anything with a 6th round draft pick? Jason Ferguson was a great 7th round pick about 65 years ago.

I think the whole equation is skewed because of the inadequacy of the QB play..in a perfect world...IE TOM BRADY..maybe he is worth 10 million...but on the Jets he is not at this time unless the QB play improves....plus Idzik made this deal with the assumption he was still going to be here...........I don't know..the Jets have so much cap room..I would actually keep him for this year...and see what Gailey can do with him and GENO/(unnamed QB)....he might not be worth the money..but at this point in time..I think the real question..is can the player they get at the 4th round pick....worth what this kid can give you potentially.....either way you lose a pick..maybe somewhere in the draft process you make a trade either big or small to get another pick in the draft process....its not like they are up against the cap wall....so I say unless he is a real malcontent..keep him...

Give me Decker/Kerley/harvin/Cooper or White Amaro.....with Spiller..Ivory..and an upgrade at OG with even a small development from Geno or whoever..and a revamped CB system through free agency..and I will take my chances

BTW its only money..what are the odds the Jets use all 54 million and get to the ultimate brim of the cap..and ...what 4th round pick can potentially be a game changer like him...and...what are you going to do with the money you save this year...?? Remember you can always cut him next year

Can a 4-12 team cut this level of talent? Looks like Mac and Bowles have a decision to make.

The really pathetic thing is... Harvin is the ONLY talent the team had. But the Jets have no choice but to cut this guy. 10 million is way too for him given you can't even nail him down to one position. He does a LITTLE in a LOT of different phases/positions. There's always a chance after he gets cut, that the Jets can renegotiate a new contract with him, but I doubt that happens.
Percy Harvin wants to play for HC's with a resume or a personality. BB has a resume. Rex has a resume (albeit nothing like BB's) and he has a big personality. Players love to play for him and I would imagine that includes someone like Percy Harvin.
So there's really TWO HC's that will attempt to sign Harvin in this division no less, NE and Buffalo. Either one of them will sign him and he'll say, "FU NYJ and your pathetic, sh*tty team". And really that will serve Rex or BB twofold....They make their division opponent that much weaker (as if the Jets weren't bottom feeders to begin with) and make their own team that much better.
This is going to be a common theme. There will be many players on the roster right now that will defect for the Buffalo when they get their chance. They WANT to play for guys like BB or Rex. They DON'T want to play for two f*cking nobodies in Mcgagme and Todd bowl of sh*t.

Geez, that's a bit extreme. Besides, I don't know how you can make a statement that no one wants to play for Bowles. Sounds like players love and respect him. Conversely, players love Ryan, but don't have any respect for him. Proof is how lackadaisical they play under him, thus all of the mistakes, etc.
