Report: Jets had solid offer for #1

It could mean one of two things:

1. The team is concerned about Petty's development, or
2. The team is using the Wolf strategy of drafting a QB every year until you hit on your franchise QB.

Remember, Woody brought Wolf in to help in the GM search, so that may play a role here, as well.

At this point, do what it takes to get that franchise guy. I personally would rather them give Petty another year before drafting a QB to see, if he doesn't have by now then maybe another year will work but I totally understand if they see it a different way. Just get it done PLEASE!

They must not think Petty is coming along fast enough or at all really to entertain or offer anything substantial for the #1 pick. Now with talks of them possibly being interested in Lynch. This must not be a good sign for Petty. Damn shame to, I was hoping he was or our answer so they can seek other positions to build around him. Seems like they are ready to move on from Fitz which if true, I have no problem with that aswell.

I really haven't heard anything great about Petty coming from any of the beat writers to be honest.

It takes bringing in as many potential franchise QBs as possible until you find the guy. Drafting a guy this year is not giving up on Petty. If Petty is a true franchise QB, he'll win the job.

Agreed.

I don't think this rumored development has as much to do with Petty as some may think. Petty was always a developmental QB, meaning at least a couple of years. The QB position is the hardest position to find "the guy". You have to bring in a few young potential studs in order to hit the jackpot. You cannot put all your eggs in one basket, i.e Bryce Petty.

I think it does say something, however, regarding the state of affairs with Fitz. I'm not nearly as confident that he's coming back as I was a month ago. I could honestly see him retire rather than take 8-9 million.

Keep in mind only Tony Pauline (Come back To NY) is reporting this, and that it was a serious trade offer. Every one else is running with it because it's a juicy story.

I'm skeptical that it was a serious offer. Macc has said he would contact ALL GM's in the trade process

LOL

Because non of the beat writers have seen him any more then we have since training camp. Zilch... We'll have to see where he is at when the June mini camp gets here

And it could be complete B.S. and posturing. Newsflash! they may have absolutely no interest in another QB! The draft is liar's poker.

Yep.

Pauline throws this out there and gets his name mentioned by the big boys, and every one bites.

I'am down with drafting Lynch. As far as Petty goes, there arent any whispers because there are none. Mac was very blunt about him last season:

He needs to develop. WIth that being said, we at the same time can develop another QB ala Ron Wolf and the Pack:

Ty Detmer
Mark Brunell
Brett Favre

One thing is for sure, Mo aint coming back.

Damn shame! To me this means Petty isn't ready. He hasn't progressed enough, so the Jets are looking else where. I was really hoping Petty would be ready to take over this year but I guess not. Glad the Jets are ready to move on from Fitz, if this all is true. Time to build for the future while still trying to win now. I like it!
From what I've read, both pre-draft from the pundits and as a pri coming feom various Jets sources, Petty projects as a backup if he does his work and learns the system, with a shot at starting if he flourishes in the mental game and to the point where he can improve on and use his physical tools to their maximum potential.

Agree on Petty. Still think Fitz will be back, with Geno the odd man out after cuts if we draft Lynch.

If Lynch slips by the Eagles, then i just cant see Lynch being drafted by any other team as they all have solidified QB's, with the exception of the team at 19 with Buffalo. They want their franchise QB and i'am sure they know Tyrod Taylor aint the answer. With that said, we know Rex's ego and he may force the issue to by pass Lynch as he will convince the front office that Tyrod is "HIS" QB.

With that said,

Call me crazy but if the Browns do not take the remaining top two QB's (Goff or Wentz), i strongly feel Mac will pull the trigger with one of the teams from 3-6 (Dallas, Jax or Balt) to jump ahead of San Fran to take their coveted franchise QB.

If the rumors were right with Mac almost landing the top spot, then they highly feel Goff or Wentz are franchise QB's folks. Next years class is exactly like the '13 class. A bunch of 2nd tier signal callers. This is the year, if given the chance, Bowles & Mac must get their guy.

Nobody knows, Tom Brady was a backup, we'll see I guess.

This is the definition of a rumor. Macc turns over every stone and wants to see what it would take to get a certain pick. The draft is its own playing field, and you need to know where everyone stands. You don't wait till draft day when you're on the clock to start figuring out values on trades. This my friends is poker.

It means nothing about nothing.

That's certainly one way of looking at it.

And another way of looking at it is that Maccagnan is ready to move on from Fitzpatrick, and made a serious offer to try to get the #1 pick for whoever that QB is whom they covet. Either Wentz or Goff.

I don't think this means anything about Fitz. There are no stories that the jets took their offer off the table. Trading mo gets a qb and 15.7mil off the books. That's enough for Fitz at 10,the rookie at 3, and an additional signing. Most high priced fa's are off the market. That allows us to have the vet, the high draft pick rookie, and the project backup in petty.

We are in a bad spot because of a lack of quality draft picks. Mac trading the farm for Wentz or Goff, still leaves us in a bad spot.

I think mac would trade a lot for his qb,but not everything. It would contradict his off season. He's been signing won now guys, a rookie qb means no playoffs.

gotta say i don't think i would have been happy giving up a huge haul for either wentz or goff.

And moving up, even if you included Mo would've been a huge haul.

This tells me they don't like the early returns of the Petty pick. You don't do something like this,if you feel good about him.
