rex was often criticized for keeping around and playing older players at the expense of younger (and cheaper) backups. so i don't get all the rex bashing for discarding an injury-prone, 34 year old RB while saving $2.5 million in cap space. they have some talented younger RBs to back up mccoy for a fraction of the price.

I'm not surprised Rex is starting Tyrod Taylor. He always liked him and even tried to bring him here before last season. I'm not quite as familiar with the Bills roster, but I was a little surprised he cut Jackson simply because I thought I read the Bills had a lot of injuries in their backfield.

Rex is not on the same page as the GM, yet again

John Idzik’s draft debacle finding new ways to debilitate Jets

Rex Ryan just can’t find himself a team with a normal general manager, can he?

The former Jets head coach is now in his first year at the helm of the Bills, and his new boss in Buffalo — GM Doug Whaley — cut veteran running back Fred Jackson on Monday without any warning. The Buffalo News reported Whaley “went rogue” in the roster move, alerting only ownership and not Ryan.

“There’s only one person in that organization that I haven’t gotten honesty from, and that was [Whaley],” Jackson, who is expected to sign with the Seahawks, told the News.

Ryan has been outspoken about his time with the Jets, telling HBO Sports he knew “100 percent” he was going to be fired after last season. The erratic behavior of GM John Idzik gave it away.
“I knew we weren’t gonna have a good team when we didn’t do anything in free agency,” Ryan said, referring to Idzik’s quiet offseason before the team went 4-12. “I knew that.”

When Idzik was hired in 2013, Ryan was already the head coach, having taken the Jets to consecutive AFC Championship games in 2009 and 2010. Ryan admitted in the interview he was never Idzik’s “guy,” but the coach’s relationship with owner Woody Johnson was rock-solid.
“Every day I’d talk to him — we talked like brothers,” Ryan said of Johnson. “I knew Woody never wanted to fire me. I could have been his coach for 20 years. That’s what Woody wanted. There’s no question Woody wanted that.”

Idzik was fired with Ryan after last season, and in came new coach Todd Bowles and new GM Mike Maccagnan. Ryan knew a new GM would mean he was gone, too.

“There’s no chance he could have brought in another GM and kept me again,” Ryan said. “It wouldn’t have worked in New York. They weren’t going to allow it.”

Now Ryan is in Buffalo, and again he seems not to be on the same page with his GM.

I guess he's owning it, and not the least bit ashamed. There could be a lot worse things to be pre-occupied with than your wife's feet. The funny thing is that office looks like an intern-size office.

if Rex had never got the head coach job, could he have been a champion defensive coordinator for years and years somewhere?

Bills Promoting LB IK Enemkpali To Active Roster, Despite Suspension

1 min ago Bills, NFL Transactions 0 Comments 0 Views

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Bills are promoting LB IK Enemkpali to their 53-man roster in order to prevent other teams from signing him off of their practice squad while he’s suspended.

Last night, John Wawrow of the Associated Press reported that Enemkpali was being suspended for the first four games of the season for punching Jets QB Geno Smith.

Enemkpali, 24, was taken in seventh round of the 2014 draft and has three years remaining on his four-year, $2.3 million rookie contract. The Bills wound up claiming him off of waivers a few weeks ago after he was cut by the Jets.

Buffallo wound up cutting him loose this past weekend, but they later added him to their practice squad.

In 2014, Enemkpali wound up appearing in six games and recorded three tackles and two pass defenses for the Jets.

This actually makes a lot of sense. IK is exempt from counting against the roster while suspended, so why risk someone taking him.

Except of course that no one was going to sign him. Already made it through waivers once.
