They say twice is always nice. The Buffalo Bills are reportedly doing what they can to test that theory.
According to a report from Alex Marvez of Fox Sports, Rex Ryan is set to hire his brother Rob Ryan to join his defensive coaching staff.

Rob Ryan just ended an almost full three season stint with the New Orleans Saints as defensive coordinator. He's had multiple stops in the NFL at DC, including the Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, and Dallas Cowboys.

you know what, all jokes aside, if the reports out of buffalo are true, (make the playoff in '16 or goodbye) i would trust a guy that believes in my system as much as i do..

So I guess they'll both get fired at the end of next year? I know Buffalo fans must be hating life right now.

if we didn't get swept by buffalo this season i would tend to agree..

but we did..

kind of a shaky position to be yucking it up, no??

Not really. Miami split with the Pats. Does that make the Dolphins as good as New England?

You go by record, not by individual games. The season is a marathon, not a sprint. Rex took a 9-7 team to an 8-8 record. Bowles took a 4-12 team to a 10-6 record.

There's no grey area here: either this is going to be a great signing or a catastrophic one for that franchise.

They're a little different in their defensive philosophies if I recall. If they can work together, it has the potential to be a dangerous combo. If not, this is the type of move that could eventually send that team to Canada.

It'll be a great move for them. They are going to make a lot of changes during the offseason and get the defense they want. Next season watch out. That defense will likely be top 5.

It depends on the personnel moves they make. Does it make sense to get rid of Mario Williams because he doesn't fit your scheme, or to adjust your scheme to his strengths?

Rex is an excellent defensive schemer. That has never been doubted. Rob similarly is a very good defensive schemer. I sense their defense will be better than this year's, and might come close to living up to Rex's lofty predictions.

The questions for the team will still rest on the offense and on overall accountability.

Let's, for comparison's sake, look at Rex's early years with the Jets. He took major steps forward his second year, before the decline started in Year 3. The difference is, Rex got the team to buy into his message in that first year by making the playoffs at 9-7, and then winning big games to make it to the AFC title game.

If the playoffs are as important as you have said in your criticism of Todd Bowles, then the same applies to Buffalo. The Bills went 8-8 and are couch potatoes for the playoffs, correct? So he is far less likely to have the team buying into his message, if he doesn't have that first season of success.

The defense might be outstanding, but the team overall may not be.

No. But it means the Jets have their own set of problems. That shouldn't be any challenge for you to comprehend. 10-6 teams are SUPPOSED to be better than 8-8 teams, right? So when that team gets swept by that 8-8 team, you have to take a look at that 10-6 team and ask yourself, "What gives?". I'll tell you what gives. The Jets were a product of a cupcake schedule. They could only beating ONE team with a winning record this season. They have a rookie HC that cost that team their chance at the playoffs because he got flat out outclassed by 8-8 HC. Very logical conclusion.

Again, the season is a marathon, not a sprint. You don't put too much on one or two games, one opponent.

Parcells didn't say, "you are what you did against one opponent." He said, "you are what your record says you are." Now, logically, I am going to side with Bill Parcells over you when it comes to that, no offense. Very logical conclusion.

12-4 teams are SUPPOSED to be better than 6-10 teams. So when a 12-4 team splits with a 6-10 team, you have to ask yourself, "what gives?"

Especially when the 12-4 team had the top seed, home field in the playoffs, on the line, and the 6-10 team had quit on their teams two months before.

so if every game is a product of the coach, wouldn't that mean that bowles won 10 games for the jets while rex only won 8 games for the bills? you blame bowles for the loses; therefore, shouldn't he get credit for the 10 wins? in contrast, rex only won 4 games for last year's jets. so if bowles is a terrible rookie coach, what does that say for rex?

Fortunately its only a problem for 2016.

The Pegulas extended the competent Doug Whaley for two seasons so WHEN the Bills fail to make the postseason in 2016 the owners will only sh*tcan the incompetent bragging buffoon, his halfwit brother and the pile of remaining sycophants that slithered over there after mismanaging the Jets and allow Whaley to hire a HC with a brain and bring back Jim Schwartz to try and restore the defense that was there in 2014

You don't get it. The Jets won 10 games in spite of Bowles. Therefore, he gets no credit for the wins, and all the blame for the losses.

The Bills won 8 games because of Rex. Therefore, he gets all the credit for the wins, and no blame for the losses.

Right now, if you look at the 2015 season, Rex won 8 games to Bowles' 0 wins. 8-0. Pretty convincing who the better coach is.

Ah man this is great. By week 8 Rex and Rob will have a fist fight on the field. It's just what the Ryan's do.

Just for entertainment value I always wanted Rex to hire Rob when he was here.
