Roster Overview: Pre-Draft Edge Rusher

Well for years this team has avoided the main need on defense getting a blind side edge rusher to complete the front seven... Defensive line has almost always been top of the line with plenty of reserves... But the linebacker core has been proactive with run defenders but unable to acquire a premiere pass rusher, so in another top heavy edge rusher prospect draft can this team finally finish this need by taking someone who has the gear to make a difference...

Looking at the roster, a surprising factor is our weak side linebacker Jordan Jenkins known for his run defense, setting the edge but became our best edge rusher last season with seven sacks on the year, not big numbers but was very effective... On occasion, Brandon Copeland who was recently re-signed showed flashes but isn't considered an every down starter...

So the question is: Do the Jets stand pat and take a premier edge rusher, or do they trade down a few spots still get a top flight edge rusher or completely ignore this need yet again?

There is always one other question, are the Jets really considering trading Darron Lee or are they contemplating moving him to outside with this new hybrid scheme Gregg Williams is going to dream up for our current personnel/roster?

We’ve watched Brady stand in the pocket and take his time dissecting our defenses for years. While the interior rush has been there at times, sometimes via safety blitzes, the edge has been the weakness. Enough already.

Get the pass rusher.

One big question, do we take for need or BPA ? BPA will be Q. Williams.

I think about it in terms of tiers. I believe Q and Bosa are tier 1. Elite prospects. The cream of the draft. Then you have Allen in the next tier which is just slightly below that. After that, you have about 4-6 prospects in a tier, and so on.

For the Jets picking at #3, BPA is usually the go-to but considering that Allen isn’t that far off from the elites, you put some consideration into scheme fit and need, too.

That’s how i rationalize picking Allen. He checks the most boxes.

I agree. Allen is the best fit if we stay and pick at 3.

I agree in general with BPA. But when the difference is minimal, as it is between Williams and Allen, and one position is stocked while the other is a need, take the need guy.

I say Allen all the way, if the Jets are going to draft a defensive player at #3. Once or if the Jets draft Allen, if he is as good as advertised we will be stacked at the LB position and what will do about that? You can never have enough great or every good players but when they have other needs, one of those LBs can be traded for something.

The way I see it:

- Mosely, is an excellent tier one LB (no doubt)
- Williamson, is a excellent tier two LB (and much better then Lee as a decent tier one LB)
- Allen, is advertised and supposed to be a tier one guy and hopefully he is (if this the case then, WOW)
- Jenkins and Lee, are decent tier two or very good tier three guys (Lee will most likely be the one traded, I guessing being that he is a MLB)
- Luvu, in my opinion is our diamond in the ruff (he may be a tier three guy now but with some experience, he can easily move up to a very good tier two guy)

I believe we will be trading down, so we may have to start looking at guys like Burns, etc.

Hopefully the Jets get Josh Allen and he's the Von Miller of this draft... No need to get 8picks and 3 make team

Everybody says it's the interior rush that gets to Brady, not the edge guys. But I wouldn't base my pick, who should be a jet for 10 plus years, on saving a 41 year old QB.

I think it's bosa, Allen, then some offensive lineman on macs board. If bosa or Allen are available at 3, I don't trade back without a true blockbuster deal. Not history making, but the real value of the 3rd pick.
