at this point, i'm not sure if people even know why they knock fitzpatrick anymore..

is it their lack of faith he can maintain his level of play over the last 2 years & last thursday??

any competent NFL QB could do at least as well as fitzpatrick has with these weapons??

is it simply out of habit??

all of the above??
Every detractor on this board exclaimed he could never ever replicate last season, he's already proven last year wasn't a fluke, and their arguments invalid.

This isn't a track star offense playing with house money, we have hall of famers, veterans, and guys who will fight for every yard. Exactly why cutting Amaro was so satisfying, he had no hunger and didn't fit in.

Is Fitz Brady or manning? No. But he could be Fitz magic. This offense clicks so well together and it's only week 2. Our biggest concern is Revis.

I will agree Fitz does have a great command of this offense and has so many weapons which means he better be able to guide us to the playoffs. I'm not bashing him. I'm just taking my time to decide if I want to believe. I believed last year and he couldn't get it done. I also agree having Revis fall off a cliff is a major concern. I sure hope Burris can make a leap or we will be drafting CB with our first pick.

One of the big reasons Fitz played so well so far has been how good the OL has been and the addition of Forte. I liked Ivory, but teams knew what kind of play it was when he was in there. Forte keeps teams honest and on their heels.

You mean like qvale/ijalana splitting reps, and Wesley Johnson playing for carpenter?

ryan & chan took rex & rob behind the woodshed last night, plain & simple..

off the top of my head, i can't remember any jet QB getting that many 30+ yards completions in one game.. am i alone with that JFU??

hell, that's even with the marshall drop & fitzpatrick's prettiest/deepest pass of the night to decker that was called back for holding..

I'm going to attempt to be as objective as I possibly can about Fitz. First of all, Rex's Bills looked like sh*t on Thursday on both sides of the ball. That team is in a shambles and Rex's job is most certainly on the hot seat. So I don't want to go overboard singing Fitz praises - he was picking on a broken team.

That said, and us all knowing Rex from his years in NY, Rex always gets up for some certain games. When they play the Patriots his team is always ready to play. The same could be said for the Jets as last season showed us.

Now with caveat, I am in total agreement with you 13. My fandom for Ryan Fitzpatrick just continues to grow by the very minute. We all know we will NOT see the Ryan Fitzpatrick from Thursday night very often. Ryan Fitzpatrick is not a long ball thrower, never really has been.

Thursday night however, he was every bit of any all world QB you would want to compare him to. I'm not saying he is those guys every week, but on Thursday night he was just as good. Fitz was not perfect Thursday, he missed two very blatant opportunities in my estimation. But how often are the even the great QB's of this league perfect??? If as a Jets fans you are expecting perfection, you'd better stop watching because you'll never get it.

Fitz was challenged by Buffalo to throw outside the numbers and into the deep center of the field. Fortunately he had good blocking up front and it allowed him enough time to let those comeback routes, crosses, and deep seam routes to develop. Well........All I can say s he was damn near perfect. Like you said 13, he took Rex behind the woodshed Thursday night and gave him quite possibly the beating of his coaching career.

And what is not being mentioned is Fitz's DETERMINATION from Thursday. From the very second the offense took the field, I could not help noticing the determination on the faces of Fitz, Marshall, Decker, Enunwa and a certain few others. That game had REVENGE written all over it. Just like the media crews said that Bowles told the team that Buffalo was just another game and they did not believe it, neither did I after seeing the game. All of the pain associated with last seasons season ending loss was on full display as they put it to Rex an the Bills Thursday.

That was probably Fitz very best game as a pro. His completion was at 70.5%, he threw for 374 yards, but with 5 rushes for 21 yards on top of that, his total yardage accounted for 395 yards of total offense. This out of 493 total yards of offense for the team.

What's even more impressive is the Jets defense played another terrible game in my estimation. They got off the field quickly at times, but it was only because they allowed Tyrod Taylor of all QB's to burn them long twice in the game. So Fitz played that well in spite of pretty much no support from the defense.

Last Thursday he EARNED 1/16 of 12 million dollars and more. No one could possibly debate that as the QB market goes, Fitz (at least on Thursday) was worth every penny of that 12 million and more.

He was also robbed of his very best pass of the night, a real live, all world BOMB completed to Eric Decker that hit him in stride it was pinpoint accurate. Ryan Clady should be having nightmares from that play and how he deprived Ryan of his biggest play of the night. Thank god for Ryan Clady that the Jets won the game.

I am also in total agreement with what you claim about most of the halfwits on various sites that claim Geno Smith is a better BARGAIN than Ryan Fitzpatrick. That is so beyond stupid. Please name me the last time any GM of an NFL team went shopping for blue light specials at Kmart?

When it comes to QB's, you pay for what you get and sometimes much MORE than what you got in return. Anyone that thinks that Geno Smith could have done what Fitz did last night in an idiot.

What I am also starting to realize is that there's no way Petty or Hack will be ready for the start of the 2017 season. Mike MacCagnan is going to have to resign Fitz for another season to keep the level of play up for the overall team. Fitz is the perfect guy to fill that stopgap and mentor role.

When Fitz signed that 12 million deal, he was essentially betting on himself. The Jets claimed that his numbers from 2015 could be a fluke and they wanted to see a little more before they went all in with Fitz.

Fitz basically said to himself, I will bet on myself, I will give the Jets what they want for another season, but after I am done? I will get to go back into free agency and this time I will get every bit of money I want and deserve. Newsflash for all Jets fans, the NYJ are the ones that will be paying that price to Fitz.

Based on how he is playing right now, he will have earned it and no one will be able to say anything otherwise.........

There's still 90% of the season to go, but Fitz has quieted the fluke crowd. I bet he could go 15-1 and suddenly it would be because the schedule is so easy.

The smartest position for the Jets(and how every successful organisation operates) is to keep Fitz as long as his level of play is at this current rate, and have a backup in the wings.

The gm got the guys on the roster he wanted, the coach worked them all out and put the guys on the field that he felt would perform the best, and are most likely to win as a team. That's not geno, and petty isn't number 2. Now all of the practice reps go to Fitz, wroth maybe 5-10 a week to geno. Petty doesn't get much opportunity to improve during the season, other than by watching and learning.

Assuming nothing drastic changes, that puts us in a place next year on day one of free agency where petty and hack are our only QB's in a qb hungry league. Fitz will be a top 10 statistical qb with proof he can lead an offense that isn't dysfunctional, and still have 5 years in the tank in a league where many teams turnover every 3-5 years. The next best qbs available are kirk Cousins then his like Sanchez and keenum.

Fitz will be by far the best qb on the market in a league that is ALL about the qb.

At that point all mac will know about petty,is what he sees during this season, which is bench riding. Which therefore means, all he knows,is how pretty played against 3rd stringers in the pre season. I like petty, but I'm not ready to gamble our future without seeing him progress more.

Fitz was happy with the 12 mill a year mark, and we gave it to him all guaranteed. The Jets offered 3 years with an average value of 8 million a year. Essentially paying him backup money to be a starter. My opinion is that Fitz would have been thrilled for a3 year 12 mill per (36 million) deal, with only 1.5 years guaranteed. We would have returned our best qb since Joe, gotten him for bargain money, and could be flexible enough to trade or cut him next year. Even as a backup, his 12 million combined with pettys and hacks contract, would still cost us less than almost every team pays their starter, and he would be the best backup in football.

Instead, should we intend to bid for him to return,we would need to pay him 20 million per, or gamble on petty. Make no mistake, someone will pay him 20 million for his 30tds per year.

What doesn't add up is mac believing in him enough to sign him,but not to lock him up on the cheap. Either way would have left us flexible at the qb position.

And next year leveon bell will be a free agent in his prime.

The schedule was easy last year and Fitz benefitted. Thats just a fact. I will take that bet that not one team pays Fitz $20M. Teams know he is a system QB. If he doesn't have as many weapons as he has here he will fail.

Don't get me wrong I really want him to succeed.

Whatever the split, its working. Fitz has plenty of time and Forte has holes.
It was a 50/50 split. And carpenter our best run blocker didn't play. I don't know how fair it is to just brush off someone's play. I don't know if you can say it's just good line play when 2 starters are out.

My take was that pass protection did hold up well, but our game plan was excellent, and keeping the bills d on the field for 8 minute drives paid huge dividends in the 4th. Fortes 12 yard td was in large part because of how tired the d was, which is the whole point. The Jets showed a left sweep, the d bit hard got tied up with linemen, then we changed direction and they couldn't recover. Forte did a fantastic job of waiting for the blocks to develop and hitting the hole.

That was a perfect example of executing as a team, and how important possession time is.

The schedule was easy, and we should have had 12 wins and won the division, except for poor execution against buffalo. We were also a new group figuring out who we were and learning. Oh and by the way,we beat the Patriots, does that win count more or less than beating the Colts? And we again were a dumb mistake away from sweeping the pats, just as they were an ot td away from sweeping us.

But this year is supposed to be the hardest schedule with the first 4-6 games being the hardest stretch, and if not for 2 missed chip shots by a very reliable kicker we would be 2-0. In the nfl there's very rarely anything easy, we didn't beat 10 teams who went 1-15

Every season is unique, you can't ever give up on a year because you never know when you might land in a lucky spot. It is what it is. You know how many countless games the Patriots looked like shit and still squeak out a win, yet they don't get knocked down for winning super bowls in years they looked like shit,or beat easy teams throughout the year.

Much can happen, but I will absolutely bet anyone, that should Fitz continue to have a grip over this offense, and finish with similar numbers to last year, he will have a20 million offer on the table.

I think the difference between you and I is I don't believe in Fitz long term and you do. I also think the league feels the same way. Another point I will argue about the missed FG/XP is we were inside the 5 twice and Fitz couldn't lead them to a TD. There were lots of mistakes vs Cincy and it wasn't one player or play that lost that game for us.

I think I've been very clear that I want to keep Fitz until somebody unseats him. There is no guarantee petty or hack will ever amount to anything. You can't just make assumptions. Fans have very limited memories and pick and choose which facts they care about.

Of course every play in the game was an opportunity to win,no game comes down to 1 play. But when you lose by 1,and you missed a pat I think you can agree if not for that near automatic play from a kicker who had never missed apat in 800 kicks we would have been tied correct?

Tied with a perennial playoff team not a bottom feeder. And can we agree that there's no excuse to miss a 22 yarder?
Almost winning doesn't count, but when you lose because of supposed automatic plays it's not a knock on the qb, it's called context.

Biggest impact on a game is always QB. I hope Fitz continues his play. I'm not sure how long he can continue. I have no problem with the front office making him earn his money. I'm only judging Fitz based on his time here when it comes to being a long term solution. So far he has been very good vs bad teams and average vs good to great ones. If we start the season 5-1 or 4-2 then I will be thoroughly impressed.

I believe in Fitz for as long as it takes the Jets to find a franchise QB so long as the following requirements are met:

1) Chan Gailey must remain as the Offensive Coordinator. I cannot see a coaching change happening anytime soon, but everyone should know that without Chan Gailey, I doubt Fitz is as good as he's been with the Jets.

2) Keep the current level of talent around him. Fitz needs talent around him to be successful. He never had enough talent around him until he arrived in NY last season. They should also have every intention of adding a TE and a FB to this offense. That would open up additional avenues for Fitz to utilize.

The bottom line is Fitz is BETTER than anything else on the roster and it isn't even really close, at least not right now. So Mac should think about at some point this season making an offer to Fitz that runs beyond this season........

To me this is '98 all over again. Vinny was a journey man and he hit his stride with our club as he had a coach who knew how to utilize his talents and the weapons around him.

We have an overall good defense that will only get better. A coaching staff who will game plan to tiredless nights in order to beat elite teams as the ones we will be facing. Special teams, we have lethal athletes who can provide great field position throughout th games.

Ryan is who he is but make no mistake, the guy is a Veteran that this team needs in oder to succeed. If he goes down and 7 comes in, we're doomed. Thankfully our O-Line is playing lights out in protecting him and allowing holes to open up for Forte'.

Fitzy was rust in game one. He shook off the rust in game two and its blatant to see what this offence can be when he is on his game. I expect many more of these performances this season.

Amen, Danny!!! Watch out for the Green Arrow!!!! He's got a quiver full of arrows now, and is looking to pierce defenses!!

Fitz is the best qb the Jets could get,and nothing has changed. So either we have a2 win season, and hope there's aqb sitting at 1 who deserves to be drafted, or we plan our future around Fitz, petty, hack.

Petty and hack are locked up cheap, that leaves us to extend Fitz immediately before we can't afford him,or throw a redshirt 4th rounder in next year.

Fitz was always worth the 12 despite fans insisting he was worth 3 for soon illogical reasoning, and the Jets gave it to him fully guaranteed. I don't get why not sign him 3 years, only 1.5 guaranteed, and let him for it out every year worth petty and hack. Oh and by the way, petty is getting an invaluable lesson from Fitz, so we should feel great about his mentor role. Fitz is passing on great preparation lessons as well as how to have a happy clubhouse.

Fitz killed it last week. I love how Rex challenged him to throw outside and deep, Fitz answered the call no problem.

Also let's give it up for the O line, especially Wesley Johnson after Carpenter went down. I've been really down on the kid when he filled in for Mangold last year. He stepped up in a big way.
