Sam Darnold- USC QB

Lots of QB's have had great numbers in college vs top notch competition, but if given the choice I will take my chance with 6'4" over maybe 6'1" any day.

But height isn't everything, Tebow. In a vacuum, I agree with you. But then guys like Drew Brees come into the conversation. He's a great QB and to my knowledge he's about 5'11". So I really don't if a candidate is 5 feet or 7 feet. If he can be our QB put up great numbers and win us a SB? That's my guy.......

I can agree, but there are way more taller QB's than shorter ones. Way more 6'3 and above winning SB's than sub 6'1" QB's.

Did anyone watch the game last night? I didn't get a chance to watch it yet. It's on my DVR but from what I read on Kline, Darnold struggled mightily.

He may not be worth the first overall pick.

Thats the thing. This whole "Tank" none-sense has gotten out of hand. Lets root for this young team as we're showing alot of fight and something we havent seen in a while from our club: Unity.

I believe the plan is coming along just great. Build a young core. Have a unified culture in the locker room. Have the coach RUN this team not the players. When 2018 comes along and Maccagnan is convinced moving up to grab a QB, especially if the team trading with has a franchise QB, ala Indianapolis, then he'd pull it off Like the Eagles did with Wentz. Its been done before.

(remember, jury is still out on Hackenberg, whether fans like it or not)

Its 2017, We play the Jags tomorrow. I know i started this thread, but F the "top pick" talk. We wait 8-9 months to watch our team play and some want us to lose, our own fans??!! F THAT!!

LETS BEAT JAX-LETS KICK CLEVELAND IN THE NUTS AND HAVE A SHOW DOWN AT METLIFE AT 3-2 FOR THE DIVISION LEAD VS THE PATS ON 10-15.

GO JETS..............FOREVER.

i still want a shot at the best QB in the draft.. i'm hearing/reading that conceivably 6 could go in the 1st round..

hackenberg not withstanding, i believe not only do we need to go offense with our 1st pick, (an offensive pick in round 1, what a concept, right??) it absolutely needs to be a QB.. i would include petty but bowles has no use for the kid..

if maccagnan wants to kinda stay with his "BPA" mantra, fine.. pick the BQA!!

BTW 16, your enthusiasm is awesome!! :)

If we have the first pick, he'll stay for his senior year, a la Peyton Manning, and become a star the following year for another team. If he comes out and we take him, he'll be like all the other USC QB's in the past 20 years.

Holy shit, I'm a downer.

I'm gonna have to totally agree with you. But here's the bad thing about the whole tanking the season thing. Management might have set this team up to fail but the players still want to win. That is untill they end up 1-6 or so, then everyone seems to give up. The media keeps telling this team that they couldn't beat a college team. That actually sparks them to play harder and win a few games which will eventually push them out of the top 3 picks.

Funny thing is that if we end up with the #1 pick, the kid will stay in school alla Peyton Manning. And don't forget Manning stayed in school and Parcells would have been his coach not todd Bowles. If we drop to pick number 4, then the kid will enter the draft and we can trade up and take him. Ha, that's nuts but probably true! The next problem is that no matter how good a qb is he will fail without a top oline. Look at Luck getting killed. Trade Luck for our hero tom brady. brady behind the Colts oline is knocked out week 1 laying in a hospital bed sending texts to his olinemen telling them they suck while Luck as the Cheatahs qb is on his way to 16-0 and the superbowl

Our Jets are far, far from even being respectable We need an oline and a qb among other things. The only way to grab a top qb is to be lucky and stink at the right time or be lucky and grab a diamond in the rough which is less likely. If we are lucky enough to stink at the right time and we don't put a cheatah type oline in front of the kid then we may as well not draft him in the first place

Here's a sad fact. Right now the Giants are ahead of us for the top pick. I'm sure most of you hate the Giants but I'm from CT. which has become home of the Cheatahs and anyone who prevents the cheatahs from winning 2 more superbowls is #1 in my book

Agreed on all points here! Jets seem to be a cursed team but hopefully that changes this year. Whether they get the #1, 4, 7 or 10 pick, it's obvious they need to draft a QB and draft the right one. I don't know who that is but dammit, can we please get it right this time??? As for this tanking thing, people on the site seem to misunderstand me. If this exact team was playing Hack or Petty, I'd be glued to the TV and routing like hell, EVERY WEEK for them to win. Soar throat, hurt stomach, headaches and body aches.

I want this team to win as much as anyone and I want it this year. I want them to play as hard as possible, come to together and build into a contender this year if possible. No not the playoffs because let's be serious, that ain't happening this year but at least show signs that this team is building that way quickly. I want this young team to show heart, not quit, lay down or give away W's. I want all it that as any Jet fan would and I love the direction this team is headed. They should have done it years ago IMO. I just want it with a young QB that can build with them as well.

No we obviously don't have that QB this year or he'd be playing but what exactly are we accomplishing with McCown? It's not like he's Phillip Rivers for example. An old veteran QB that was and still excellent that you can win with. McCown will do nothing more for this team then any QB we have, so why not just play the young QBs? If he does any better, they won't be a playoff team. Meaning he'll win a few more games, like 2-3 more then Hack or Petty and just knock us the top draft pick running but we'll still not make the playoffs. It's pointless and just doesn't make sense to me.

bowles either gets extended before next season, ('18 is the last year on his deal) or fired..

he's trying to to squeeze as many wins out of this team to try to keep his job, or find another one..

in other words, finding out what petty & or hackenberg are or aren't, is of no concern to him.. his actions are completely self serving.. he's playing a zero sum game..

maccagnan takes plenty of blame in this too.. he would have to be a fool to have thought bowles would start anyone but mccown, knowing that maccagnan can't force his hand..

What i believe the Jets are doing isfiding out about the positions right now except QB. They're having their O-line come together, seeing the receivers get acclimated to the system and if they are doing the right thing. Getting cohesiveness with the running game to help keep this offense balanced. They are finding out a bit about theseg players and what they have, keeping McCown running the ship putting the players in the best possible position to succeed. Then, when they are satisfied,to a point, where the team is, they can then successfully anylize the QB position with Petty or Hack in the game. That is how, i believe, they are going about this. If they throw Petty or Hack into a shit show then nothing gets accomplished.
The defense playing like shit doesn't help but they played lights out last week.

We want to see growth from this team this year, overachievement , guys learning to play together, an oline melding into something great, young players who show ability to be great... but at the same time we need them to lose just about every game so we draft a top qb. It's hard to have both of these things. It's like, if McCown keeps playing well he needs to be benched because he is not the future and all he can do by winning is lower our draft pick. Sad to say...

It makes sense to take a QB, but once again that's an enormous risk. Mac has proven nothing to me about picking QB's? Has he for you? I think he's as lost as the rest of us when it comes to taking a QB?

I'am all for a QB in next years draft. With that being said, if Rosen and Darnold stay for their senior season, then i'd go Saquan Barkley 1st round and either trade back into the first round or wait until the 2nd round to select Baker Mayfield. Sort of like the San Diego Chargers did with selection LaDanian Tomlinson and Drew Brees in the 2001 draft.

I actually like how Maccagnan has been building this team. This is the first official off season in which the organization has allowed Mike and Todd to strip the roster to start over. We havent done this in possibly over 3-4 decades. Constructing the depth chart with self-less players who place the team first. No premaddonas, just blue collar football players. A complete youth movement with a dash of veterans who want to guide the youngtsers into the right direction ala McCown and Forte'.

Again want to point out that Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty are not out of this equation just as yet as many have them very down. This organization has been known for NOT developing a QB the right way. All the way from Browning Nagle to Geno Smith. The only QB that the franchise groomed the right way was Chad. Sat on the bench until two years after he was drafted.
Some QBs get it quick, some need time. Just feel the majority of the fan base does not want to wait at all. They want a finished product yesterday.

Steve Young...
Drew Brees...
Tom Brady...
Brett Favre...
Philip Rivers...
Jim Plunkett...
Alex Smith...
Aaron Rodgers..

All these QB's needed the right time to develop. They weren't thrown out there day one. Some actually looked horrific and were deemed an after thought if any thing (Young, Plunkett, Favre..Smith).

Lets wait and see how Hack and Bryce develop before we all start clamouring for "The next big thing".

Just want to point out that Darnold has not had a particularly good season so far. Nor has Josh Allen. Of the consensus top 3 going into the year, Rosen has had the best year so far.

problem is, aside from an injury to mccown, bowles is not benching the guy until we are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.. he just flat out isn't.. hell, after today's game, 25% of the season will already be over..

so in all likely hood, we are not going to get enough of a look at either petty or hackenberg this season.. that's why i feel so strongly about our 1st pick being a QB..

even if one of the kids set the league on fire for a couple of weeks, i would still be tempted to go QB in the 1st..

There is no way we should waste a possible #1 draft pick on an undersized QB. No matter what amount of heart and confidence you have, you will still have to have physical size to play QB. I know other mini QB's have been successful, but its definitely not the norm and if it comes down to a 6'5 QB vs a 5'11 QB with similar skill sets I will take the taller one every time.

Then you would have missed out on Russell Wilson and Doug Flutie, and lots of other great QBs. Baker Mayfield has that same special something, he elevates his entire team with his personality, not just his skill. He extends plays the way the special ones do, and is remarkably accurate both from the pocket and on the run. There is a good chance that he will not be picked high because of his size, but I genuinely think that whomever picks him, will end up with a special player. Dude walked on at Texas Tech... became the starter. Walked on at Oklahoma of all places... and became the starter, and a Heisman finalist. He's a born winner and a born leader.

Doesn't really make too much sense. We haven't evaluated the QBs we've got so let's draft another one to sit on the bench. If as now looks likely we win 6 or 7 games and are drafting twelfth or so I would like to see some love shown to the O-line for a change. It all starts up front.

At this point it's important to realize that the Jets, more than likely, will NOT get the privilege of selecting a top notch QB. The Jets have turned out to be better than most thought. I am guilty as charged of that.

Now, they can still trade up to grab their guy, but it will require packaging compensatory, regular picks, and possibly picks in future years to get into the top 3..........

OR we could stand pat and take Baker Mayfield?????
