Anyone heading to the senior Bowl this week? Practices begin tomorrow. I'm in Tallahassee and thinking driving down for a few days. At least watch the practices, not sure if I will stay for the game. Some interesting prospects to watch.

two tackles to watch:

LT - Charlie Heck, UNC (67)
RT - Ben Bartch, St. John's (75)

one center to watch
OC - Matt Hennessy Temple (58)

believe Heck & Hennessy on North squad and Bartch on South...

Take notes Tony, it's too far for me to drive.......................... ;) ;) I'll watch it if it's on a local station but nothing like actually being there.

Was listening to NFL-XM radio on way home yesterday and Paul Alexander (long tome OL coach) said that the Houston OT Jones is a guy to watch as well as Hennessey and Bredeson (SP? - OG from Michigan). The latter two are excellent prospects with Bredeson being the most pro ready. Alexander had an interesting comment about Jones' easy athleticism, and quiet feet. The feet comment was about how smooth and effortless Jones was in pass protection. At 6'7" and 310 he might be a year away, but I'll be paying close attention to this guy. Ideally we get a LT in 1st and OC in 2nd/3rd to hopefully duplicate our Brick and Mangold success.

I like his set! Nice lateral movement.

His base might be just a hair too wide for his frame, and he may not get the best extension, but he has good feet and a solid punch.

Sack, educate me on why the too-wide set is an issue. Does it create a problem with ability to adjust to speed?

Center from LSU Loyd Cushenberry was the stand out
O lineman all 3 days. He dominated 1 on 1's. I'd rank him 1 at center, Hennessey 2nd
side note Jonahh Jackson has looked good, moved around from LG and RG .
LT Jones looked lost day 1 better on day 2 and bad again on wed. Very inconsistent.
Interesting OT was a kid named Ben Bartch, D3 but held his own and outperformed alot of the D1 OTs.
DTs and DEs dominated the especially Javon Kinlaw . He won about every matchup day 1&2, didn't participate day 3.
FAU TE Bryant looked really good. Constantly open. No one could cover him.
LG John Simpson from Clemson, (looks like Tarzan plays like Jane) big big man constantly beat. Slow off the ball and repeatedly blown by.
Tyree Phillips looks like a very good LG
Justin Hereon is another guard to watch, could be a good fit for ZBS
Van Jefferson is a hell of a Reciever. One of the top performers here.
Strowbridge DL from NC looked good all 3 days as well.

Heck was terrible all 3 days in 1 on 1's and 7 on 7's ,think his stock will drop .
Bartch was very impressive, really impressive.
Hennessey looked great, just behind Cushenberry at Center

Thanks Tony. Great work, both post. I heard Hennessy say in an interview that he wants to join his brother here so someone will probably snatch him up before that can come to fruition. Keep the info coming my friend it's much appreciated, at least by me.

The guy looks like a shrimp.....the soup man will send him packing

He's a 6'4'/ 295 lb shrimp that as of this moment is rated by Pro Football Focus as the 5th best "O" lineman in the country with a grade of 87.0 butter so he must have something going for him.

I would swap Cushenberry and Hennessey
at center
Move Sternberg to 1 C for the Guards and remove John Simpson completely. He's a mountain but was beaten like a drum repeatedly.

It creates two problems. Too wide a set will:

1. limit mobility laterally, and
2. impact your balance.

Wider is better than narrow, but there is such a thing as being too wide. It's not a major concern, by any stretch.

Some Quick thoughts before hitting the road for a long drive home. (11 hours plus stops)
The South tackles really struggled yesterday. Throckmorton is not a tackle. He's been touted as suck but could not handle it. Maybe he can make the transition in two years, but no way does he play tackle in the NFL in 2020 or 21. He didn't even face the better competition in the game.
Justin Herbert has probably done enough to pass Tua on many draft boards. Outstanding all 3 days of practice and played very well in game.
Bradlee Anae is a player to watch. His stock will likely rise ,if not would be a steal in round 3 at edge.
Bryant who I mentioned as a standout all 3 days of practice really showed off his blocking ability during the game .
At corner, Troy Pride Jr was the best of the bunch in practice and IMO the game.
I'll write something more tomorrow from home besides just these quick thoughts .

2020 NFL Draft Stock Up

Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina

Kinlaw was the best football player at Senior Bowl practice on either team, bar none. Kinlaw just has an incredible skill set, and he knows how to use it. He overwhelms offensive linemen with speed and athleticism to dart by them. He can overpower them with strength, and he uses his great length to keep them from getting into his chest to sustain contact. Kinlaw could go in the top 15 next April.

Logan Stenberg, G, Kentucky
The offensive lineman who helped himself the most from the South squad was Kentucky's Logan Stenberg. He was strong and tough at the point of attack with an aggressive style of blocking. He is a real scrapper who plays with a mean streak. Stenberg was especially impressive in the run blocking one-on-ones. After his strong Senior Bowl, he could be a day-two pick.

Marlon Davidson, DE, Auburn
Some team sources feel that if TCU's L.J. Collier could be a first-round pick, then Davidson certainly has a shot as they feel that Davidson is a better version of Collier. Both are tough defenders who are strong at the point of attack and really fight. However, team sources feel that Davidson is quicker and more athletic, and he's a better pass rusher. He showed that he is a well-rounded player in Mobile getting after the quarterback in the one-on-ones and being stout in the run game. An injury cut Davidson's week short, but he really helped himself with how he played at the start of the week.

Van Jefferson, WR, Florida
Jefferson had a nice week in Mobile. Team sources have said they like his polish with his route-running, hands and instincts. In the final session in the one-on-ones, Jefferson caused a murmur from the scouts, as he juked Pitt's Dane Jackson badly to get wide open for an impressive win. On top of his ability to contribute as a receiver, Jefferson could be a core special-teams contributor in the NFL. He may not have a fast 40 at the combine, and that could push him into the early rounds of day three. Jefferson could be a nice value pick for someone this April. He showed that he can be a pro contributor as a good backup wideout with special-teams added value.

Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
Team sources said Herbert interviewed well so that could be just as, if not more important than his on-field performance. Between the white lines, Herbert had a strong week of practice, as each day he lofted in good passes downfield and showed off his strong arm with accuracy. A number of team sources think that Herbert is going to end up being a riser from this week. His skillset is atop of the draft, and there are plenty of quarterback-needy teams that will get more comfortable with Herbert, as they see his abundance physical talent.

Darnay Holmes, CB/S, UCLA
The best defensive back at Senior Bowl was Darnay Holmes. All three practices saw Holmes make plays in coverage, showing the ability to prevent separation and play the ball. He had a beautiful break up on a pass from Jalen Hurts for Collin Johnson in the middle of the field on Thursday. Holmes had a diving play to slap it away and came close to making the catch for an interception. Holmes looks like a nice defensive back who could play some nickel corner, free safety and outside corner. That versatility could lead to him being a riser in the draft process.

Joshua Kelley, RB, UCLA
The Bruins' talented back went under the radar this past season in college football, but multiple team sources have said that Kelley impressed them during the ball and at the Senior Bowl. In Mobile, he showed that he has a good build to him with quickness, cutting ability and natural instincts. Kelley also could contribute on third downs, so he could develop into a three=down starter in the NFL. He had a really good week in Mobile and caught the attention of team staffers.

Neville Gallimore, DT, Oklahoma
He is a quick interior rusher who can get upfield and give interior blockers problems in pass protection. Gallimore could be a good fit as a three technique in a 4-3 defense with the potential to be a steal on day two of the draft. At Senior Bowl, he showed that he could be the next Grady Jarrett.

Terrell Lewis, DE/OLB, Alabama
Lewis had multiple good sessions to help himself in a weak draft class for edge rushers. He consistently used his length to get some wins in the pass-rushing one-on-ones, keeping blockers off of him and then using his speed to dart by them. He has natural size and functional strength with a repertoire of pass-rushing moves. If it weren't for the medical red flags, Lewis would be a safe pick to be solid pro edge defender, as he as a very good skill set with developed technique.

Antonio Gandy-Golden, WR, Liberty
Team sources have said that Liberty wide receiver Antonio Gandy-Golden has helped himself this week. If Gandy-Golden runs fast at the combine and in pre-draft workouts, he could rise over the weeks leading up to the draft.

2020 NFL Draft Stock Down

Jalen Hurts, QB, Oklahoma

Hurts was not impressive in Mobile. During the week, team sources talked about how Hurts struggles to see the field well, and that was clearly visible in practice. On many plays, Hurts stared down his primary read. Sometimes, he quickly looks to run when that read is covered. Otherwise, he keeps watching and it takes far too long for him to move his head to the middle and other side of the field. In the NFL, that is going to lead to a lot of sacks, as Hurts must get faster working through progressions and reading the defense. Given the amount of work he needs, Hurts would be fortunate to be a third-round pick.

Shea Patterson, QB, Michigan
Patterson struggled. Patterson is probably more of a priority free agent rather than being a late-round pick.

I'd take Cushenberry or Hennessey either one if someone else doesn't take them first. Not sure I'd use that first pick on them. It's too early to make that decision yet for me. I did watch the game and came away wishing that I had had more time to watch college play this year than I did. It seems to be the year for producing "O" line talent primarily which is good because a lot of teams are shopping for the same products as the Jets. Lucky for us several of them picking before us want QBs which improves our odds at landing a player that fills a need.
