Sheldon Richardson Speaks Out

If Richardson doesn't show up in June, I'll be concerned. Otherwise, this is just fans getting worked up over nothing. Much like the Wilkerson situation. People reading tea leaves and assuming way too much.

IMO :)

Seriously, they guy was trolled hard. We have no idea what family matters he is taking care of, but we assume the worst. What if he is taking care of and being with a dying family member he is close to. Being trolled on twitter might just set anyone of depending on the situation.

But us Jets fans assume what we want and come to the conclusion of, Trade him he won't negotiate a new contract with us... WTF??

On a similar note, Suh showed up for the first couple days at voluntary workouts and hasnt been back to the Miami facilities yet. Management is upset because they made such a large investment, but it is what it is.

Reports are Suh was hardly ever at a Detroit voluntary anything.

Watt, on the other hand, well, he's a man and a leader..so he does what he's supposed to do...

Not really a fair comparison as he's had "time with his family" for the past 5 months.

If this time is so voluntary, why do the majority of players show up? Do they not have family (or just don't like them very much)? Or do they have a sense of duty to fulfill ALL aspects of this dream job they've been blessed with?

I won't lie to you -- the guy just dropped a few notches in my book, just like Revis did. Doesn't mean I don't want them on the team (or see them do well), it just makes me root more for the jersey than the name on the back . . .

As a season ticket holder..of course I want him there..but Im not going to flog him for not being..and think he is any less "serious" about his job....the fans getting on his case are way out of bounds....sitting behind their keyboard and phones like little dweebs....

The fans are idiots -- I don't know how they could even call themselves fans if they're bashing one of our best players for one missed practice.

Having said that, I agree with 55's post above. I don't think you can discount the power of your best players being leaders (look at LeBron's influence on Shumpert/JR).

In the end, it's just a game. But it's a game we fans pour our hearts and souls into, so we want/expect our players to do the same . . .

Whether fans have an opinion of not, what RIGHT do they have to voice that opinion, especially critical ones, TO the players?
That player doesn't know "Fan"atic X from a fleck of poop on the wallpaper and probably cares more about getting the poop off the wallpaper.

And you know what? HYATT™ says; "that's as it SHOULD be".
NFL players are not "privileged" to play for ANY team, they EARNED the right to play in the NFL and are being paid handsomely for that effort.
How much they give in relation to the money they are paid is a matter between the player(s) and the team.

NFL fans have gotten to a point where they in fact believe they OWN some part of the team & players they root for - that they have some "right" to input their advice and opinions because they spend the money that eventually pays the salaries of the players.
Too bad, NFL fans, you do not have ANY "right" to do so , any more than you have a right to tell a theater owner which films to run or plays to put on.
Your "rights" start & end with the wallet in your pocket.
Spend and approve or don't, and disapprove - THAT is the only "right" you have.

Frankly, if HYATT™ was an NFL player he'd be whipping ALL of the fans the byrd every 2 minutes - they can be EXTREMELY annoying and a distraction from the hard work it takes to remain competitive in the NFL.

Why wait to be an NFL player...you should start flicking people the bird every two minutes just for the hell of it...

i guess i have a different understanding of the word voluntary than some jets fans

No, we define it the same way.

"mandatory" -- you HAVE to be there
"voluntary" -- you WANT to be there

I guess some of us would like our best player(s) to fit in the second category . . .

we've never agreed more.

Some people would say he knows how to play DT, so he doesnt need to be there. Nick made an awesome analogy earlier to attending a job seminar, where you dont get paid for yoru time to improve at your job.

Richardson knows how to do his job, like a carpenter, and he may the best carpenter in the world, but he hasn't seen the blue print for his next project and doesn't particularly seem interest in coming in and working through the blue print for his next project. He just wants to get their a few days before and learn it.

Its okay to be disappointed with a player when this happens. He's so good it wont matter.

But it sure would be nice for him to get a head start and help Williams get up to speed.

I guess the word voluntary means we're not allowed to feel that way. Sorry, Hobson.

It was ONE... maybe 2 hr practice !!......and it is not if you want..it is if you "want but don't have more pressing needs"

its a NON ISSUE
