So from people that went to camp yesterday it was made known that the starting left tackle is George Fant. Now I remember them saying entering training camp that Fant will be penciled in as the starter and it is his job to lose but there would be a competition between Fant & Becton. If the reports are true I have now taken a step back believing this coaching staff for turnstile their own words. Fant is seeking 6 year 108 M contract I do not think he is worth that. from people I trust he is seeking to have 3 years fully guaranteed a total of $76M of the 108 fuck NO. Laken signed to a 3 year deal that is the farthest I want this team to go with Fant. But to close the door on the competition before camp has really started unnerves me. Rant over.

The reason I can get behind this move and doing it early is because Fant was not very good on the right side, but seemed to be very good on the left. I think Becton has played a little right tackle in college. I would think bouncing back and forth from left to right for this OL would be a bad idea. Let them get used to each other and build chemistry. I'm just a soccer coach so what the fuck do I know.

I don't blame Saleh for naming Fant as LT. He probably reconsidered. Plus, I think Becton still needs to lose weight. That picture of him walking into camp, it looks like you can see the rim of a girdle through his shirt.

I believe that they thought that Fant would win the competition anyway so by making the move now gives Becton more reps at RT so that by start of season he will be more comfortable and thus more effective playing RT by start of season.

I agree with the camp of making the decision as early as possible. This gives them more practice reps at the poss they will actually be playing. Swapping them back and forth can only hinder the process.

Honestly, it is what is best for the line right now. I think Becton, if healthy and in shape, can excel at either. This is a bit more about Fant being a significantly better LT than he is a RT. But I wouldn't give Fant a big contract extension.

I think he proved last year he's a legit LT. He had a great season.

But he is also hitting 30, and I don't think I want the Jets paying out huge money to a guy to play LT in his 30s for this team.

I think he named Fant because it is early in camp and the coaches haven't had the opportunity to see how healthy Becton might be.

I know Fant had off season knee surgery and they are probably easing him back in, but what if he is holding out for even more money now that he is the starting left tackle? Thats one problem I had with naming him so early if no contract extension was worked out. Just my tinfoil hat thought.
